i wasnt allowed to use the '2' to move a piece inside my home making it impossible to use the '6' after that .. i had to use the '2' to move one of the pieces outside my home, and then move that piece again leaving my single piece open oustide my home ?

*shiver with fear* :)

yes its allowed ,because you are using both dice .

11. November 2004, 13:52:21
bumble
If you can use both dice then it doesn't matter which you use first.

11. November 2004, 13:51:27
bumble
No, use the three then the five.

so if i can capture an opponents piece by moving 3 and then 5 .. its not allowed ? i should hop over it by using 5 first ?

Modified by Jason (11. November 2004, 13:48:50)
always the highest dice possible ;) . you have to make sure that the piece you have moved (eg) 3 places isnt the only move that could have also played the 5 first and then the 3 . lol its hard to try and explain easily .

ah ok .. will pay attention :)

thanks

hmm one more :)
(hey i just learned this game some weeks ago! :))

what if i have 3+5 once again in a situation where i can only play both dices with 1 piece .. so i can either play 3 and then 5 or 5 and then 3 .. do i have to play the 5 first ?

11. November 2004, 13:33:24
Jason
yes always the highest dice possible , like bumble said it is possible to use the other but you might get called a cheat . I have had it happen to me before now without even realising .

11. November 2004, 13:30:01
Hrqls
ah ok .. i didnt know it until someone told me :)

i used it in a game last week .. i dont remember with whom though .. if 'you' read this please send me a message if you want to do something about it

- suppose i have a 5 and a 3 in another situation and i can play only the 5 or the 3 (but not both) do i then have to play the 5 ? although the 3 might be a better move ?

Subject: Re: is this allowed ?
It's allowed in respect that you can do it!

I think most players here follow normal backgammon rules and use both dice when possibvle - and the higher of the two dice if only one can be played.

11. November 2004, 13:22:49
Jason
if you can use both dice (even if it is a bad move for you ,like leaving open pieces ect) then you still have to use both pieces .

look at this situation : http://brainking.com/game/ShowGame?g=521868&i=52

i had a 3 + 5 at my next turn ...

i could have used the 5 first to move 19 to 24
after that i would not have been able to use the 3 as everything else was blocked from 3 steps

is that allowed ?

Subject: Re: Re:Positioning of ratings
you've sort of answered your own question UE, the listing is the top 50 and you're number 62ish.. you won't be in the top 50 list till you're in the top 50 ! It's not down to the number of games, but your amalgamated ratings.

I was floored when I saw my BKR drop from yesterday being 20 to today's 50.

Do BKR's drop that much on a normal basis?

Subject: Idea. What do y'all think?
Here is an idea that I came up with in a flash last night. It's a tournement format for backgammon, called "Duplicate Backgammon". It is similar in concept to Duplicate Bridge, where all teams play the same cards.

It would work like a double RR, but each game has the same rolls, but with each player playing different colors, hence, the rolls are "opposite". This would add much more skill to the game, as a player must play both sides of a rollout simultaneously.

Of course, some precautions would have to be taken to prevent a player from "looking ahead" in the rollout, but hiding the next roll until both games have moved should be relatively simple to program.

x7x7x7x7x7
The points are what BG players call "pip count". Fencer said that he is going to add the cube soon.

12. October 2004, 16:24:01
Gail M
Why is there no doubling cube used in BG for the 5 point matches?

12. October 2004, 16:01:24
coan.net
The points are how many "spaces" you have left to go in the game, so yes - the least amount of point you have in most cases, they better you are.

How would you know that he did this without going to your game, which would have brought the dice up anyway?

18. September 2004, 05:14:27
frolind
So you think he decided what rolls you were going to get? (since you're calling it cheating)

17. September 2004, 21:46:13
Joseph S
well it seems to not be doing it now...i can't get the dice to roll in any game i tried...so if you tried to fix it i reckon you did.....and VNV nation.....it was cheating when he did it because it was at a VERY critical point in the games and he wound up getting me doubles 5's and then did it again and got me a 5-2 which sent 2 of his pieces back because i was barred..hard to explain the circumstances but he knew he wanted to see what i was going to get for dice so he rolled them for me....i'm glad it's not doing it anymore....thanks

Plus I just looked at your only anti-backgammon game where it is your opponents turn and I can not see the dice of his either (as myself or guest)

17. September 2004, 20:16:11
coan.net
Mamba - I just tested this and I can not find this bug at all, and it looks like it is fixed to me

Here is what I found:
Player 1 invites player 2 to a anti-backgammon game, player 2 accepts.

Guest looks - see's no dice yet

Player 1 looks at game, sees dice of 5-2, and loses first roll, submits.

Guest looks at game and see's the 5-2 roll

Player 2 vies games, and moved 5-2 and submits

Guest views game, can only see 5-2

Player1 views games, see's new roll of 6-2, moves and submits

Guest views game and only sees roll of 6-2

.... and so on, and so on

===================

The only thing I can think about the games you posted about below is that they had already looked at the board but did not make a move yet. If you look at other games in the same tournament (as a guest), you will find that you can not see the dice.

But this is different from the accusations you made on your first message. You Accused Nuno Miguel of cheating...

you don't understand that that's what i'm saying...YES....i tripped the dice in those 3 games of hers.. intentionally ......so i could explain what's happening....do you see the bigger dice..???...those are the ones that wern't there till i clicked on her games...now the dice are there and those are what she gets..period..!!....she can't say...i don't want those...i didn't roll that.....it's there..NOW....and that's what i don't like about the way it works here for dice...somebody rolls my dice when i'm not here and i don't like it...i'll play dice games at IYT...there's other games i like here...did i explain ok this time...lol

17. September 2004, 14:28:05
Jason
then i must be an idiot too , guest mode or not i cant see the differance if your looking at the game you must have "tripped the dice"
