he he he, lets just say, generally, build a wall, where and how just depends on the mathematics of the pip count

thanks, but there must be something more to it.
let's look at the first 12 points for the player.
I am never afraid of leaving blot on them. When hit I will easily recover but the opponent may lose much more points ... and how about speeding
with the first few moves to get beyond the 12th point and ruin someone's possible wall ?

the only time I speed as you call it is when I get double 5's or 6's early on, and then I rarely ever go past 13, as far as leaving uncovered players in the 7-12 spot, it depends where in the 13-18 spot my opponent is, of course I will sometimes try to goat him to take me with a single player, if I am set up to take him back no matter what, gainging a pip advantage. Then theres the question, How many players do I bear on before advancing? and also How do I adjust to my opponents style? No single right way but many wrong ones.

it doesn't, Fencer announced it, I m sure the opponent is banned as well since it is his 2nd. nic. He said it is on the do do list, but must be low priority

Subject: dark backgammon
as most games on here seem to have a dark variant .. what about dark backgammon ?

you wont be able to see the opponents pieces.
maybe you would be able to your opponents dices or points/pips .. or maybe not even those

any thoughts ? :)

I suggested something like this at some time... somewhere.

Basicly my thoughts are you can see your opponents dice, and that is about it.

Basicly played just like regular backgammon, with this additional rule:

If you move one (or more) of your pieces to a space which has 2 or more of your opponenets pieces, YOUR pieces get sent back to the bar. (Since you can't see your opponents pieces, this is a possibility)

I think it would be fun with regular backgammon, but I think it would be even more fun as Dark Backgammon Race.

*nod*

although it might be quite rude to send the pieces back to the bar .. maybe just dont allow that move .. but that might give away too much info when you know the dices ..

the dices need to be in the history, without the moves

while typing this i think i like the idea of being sent back to the bar ;)

do you think that the changes in games
"rythm", I describe below ,would add anything good for the backgammon race ?
here they are:
1. the is no need to collect all the men in my home area in order to bear them off. Player can start bearing them off anytime he wishes.
2. In order to bear of the player need to throw
exact number of pips ...
I am curious what is your opinion on that.

Someone (CurbYourEnthus) made 2 accounts - played 25 games of backgammon race, played the 3-4 moves to get a rating, and moved to the top of the rating list. Back in October, it was mentioned to Fencer - and Fencer banned all the accounts involved. I believe Fencer was going to remove this person from the ratings list, but either forgot or has not gotten to it yet.

TrueMoneyGames, GamesGrid and Fibs are good places to play realtime backgammon.

You can play non-money matches for free at truemoneygames. Also check out their freeroll tournaments. You can have a limited guest account at Gamesgrid. Fibs is totally free.

HyperGammon: http://www.bkgm.com/variants/HyperBackgammon.html

Basicly just like normal gammon, except each player only has 3 pieces.

BIG BAD WOLF: The page says "A doubling cube is used". Would it be interesting even without it, just like the current BK backgammon games?

Fencer one point hypergammon games would probably be just as fun, the same as with the other bg varients here.

12. January 2005, 16:44:16
coan.net
Without a cube, luck would play more into a game - but like furbster said - would probable be just as fun without the cube.

One of the reasons I suggest Hypergammon is that is uses the same rules as regular backgammon, so little new programming would be needed.

Some other Gammon variant suggestions I have, but of course each would take more programming and such so would be more time to make are:

1) A mix between Tabula gammon and Russian Gammon. Basicly like "race", all pieces start off the board - BOTH players race the same direction around the board, bring in their pieces in the same area - can only move their pieces 1/2 way around the board until all of their pieces have entered the board - 2 dice only - no special double rules - rest of the rules like current gammon/race rules.

2) Domino-Gammon - I have since seen some other versions talked about, but linked are the rules that I have made up for the game.

Fencer: I think I tend to agree with furbster and BBW that the game would be an interesting addition to the suite of backgammon games, both as an individual game and as a point match using the cube.
