Alesh started the last round with 1320 points, bid 1149, leaving him with 171, but also got the bonus leaving him with 671. If someone bids more than 671 in the next round, he will fall in the round after that. But bidding 671+ is not the best bid because there are safe small bids that will result in spending fewer points than the minimum of 172 you will spend even with getting the bonus. Still, I expect someone to go over 671 next round. A wiser plan would be to wait one more round. Let Alesh bid his full 671. Let him get the bonus and end up with 500 for the next round, THEN overbid him.

I'm willing to bet all my remaining points that someone overbids him this round. ;-)

alesh's auto bid was 1149 before.

Everything's correct.

Yes that's right, but with 11 being a safe bid, it makes no sense to bid higher than 511 which means going for the bonus is a very risky strategy.

There is only 141 players left in that pond - don't know why anyone would have a problem trying to remmeber what one of their bids were!

I had remembered Aleshs points left wrong

Mike UK: Now that you mention that, I think you are correct - Alesh's auto bid WAS over 1,000 - so they only had 671 points left which is why the auto-bid changed from the 1,100+ big to the 671 bid.

Next round will the the auto-bid of 500 - and as long as someone bids more then 500, they will run out of points.

Stevie: "So for example 350-671+500=179 not 500" How is he allowed to bid 671 when he only starts out with 350??

Subject: Re:
BIG BAD WOLF: I think he must have had 671 left. His autobid was eleven hundred or so I think which would have been knocked down to 671, leaving him with the 500 bonus. Makes sense to me.

coan.net
Actually I don't remember how much Alesh had left last round (someone below said something around 350)

All I know is Alesh had less then 671 points. But if they had over 555, then they should have gotten the bonus.

If they had under 555 left, then Molly should have gotten the bonus.

Does anyone know for sure what Alesh had last round left? If under 555, then grenv is correct - a bug!

30. January 2005, 16:58:44
grenv
Then there is a bug, because Alesh got the bonus for betting 671. 350 would not have got the bonus.

30. January 2005, 16:50:48
coan.net
Auto Bid - If a person does not put in a bid, it will use what was used last round. If they do not have the points to cover that amount, it will use as much as the user has left.

So if Alesh was bidding 671 points per round, but last round only had 350 points left - the auto bid would place the bid for only 350, not the 671 since they do not have those points to cover the bet.

a pawn in this game http://brainking.com/game/Pond?p=0&g=10 changed their bid.....it was 16 last round, then 19 this time.

Maxxina: I'd say 11 is 100% safe.

30. January 2005, 12:40:19

safe is 11

30. January 2005, 12:40:15

They all logged in in the last three days, so maybe they will change their bids...

30. January 2005, 12:39:49

Safe is 10 :]

30. January 2005, 12:39:16

maybe for 1 round, improbable that all the autobidders will wake up at once

30. January 2005, 12:38:10
Crook
Hehe, what do you mean? There are five autobids of 8 points. Should we bid 9, is it safe? :-)

30. January 2005, 12:36:59
Crook
Sure. :-)

30. January 2005, 12:36:10

Its your fault I remembered wrong numbers then LOL

30. January 2005, 12:35:06

My table is deleted. :-) I can't manage tables for all ponds (not even for the ponds, in which I'm participating), so I'm managing none. Why should I do Fencer's business? :-P

30. January 2005, 12:32:24
Stevie
wheres your table again BB? LOL

30. January 2005, 12:31:59

I remembered wrong numbers didnt I.....he was auto bidding 1400+ before wasnt he LOL

wake up Steve LMAO

30. January 2005, 12:31:08
Crook
Yep.

30. January 2005, 12:29:47
Stevie
aahhhh right...so because he only has 500 left, the auto bid will auto drop from 671 to 500 this time then?

Modified by Crook (30. January 2005, 12:33:01)
Stevie: He is bidding 671, but he can actually bid only 500 points.

30. January 2005, 12:28:46
Crook
This is correct, but I bet there will be at least one player with a bid higher than 500 points.

30. January 2005, 12:28:10
Stevie
Nope...because he is bidding 671, so they would have to bid more than 671

30. January 2005, 12:27:12
rabbitoid
until (probably soon) someone bets 501

30. January 2005, 12:24:08
Stevie
But going by his last move..( he bid way more than points he had left) he will bid 671 again ( auto) his points will not go to -171 then add 500 bonus..It will actually go down to 0 but no further...then he will win 500 bonus ( unless another bids more) and he will once again be at 500

30. January 2005, 12:22:24
Crook
I'm quite sure this is his last round, because it makes sense again to go for the bonus.

it's initially such a counterintuitive bet that it probably was immediately discarded, but you've forced a paradigm shift already, i'll bet!

i know, but it's just so funny to see a bid like that so late. However, I wouldn't know much about surviving into late rounds...:)

The 5th player had 0 points. It was my best play since I clearly couldn't get the bonus.
