No it is you whom doesn't understand what BRAINKING is about
This is not a game, it is a competition
For points, prestige, honor in ones own mind.
If you still do not understand then open the message smileys
As for the social contract: social contract - an implicit agreement among people that results in the organization of society; individual surrenders liberty in return for protection
Substitute natural desires, with liberty; this is what the opponent of this chess game has done.
He has decided that what he wants is more important the team or how it would effect the player and his team.
He broke the social contract when he acted on his own. And further even if it where not a team event but a single contest he did not check to see if this was a mistake by the player, because he did not want to play someone whom was 100+ points stronger than himself but get the 1/2 point, if you cannot see this then you are just like him.
Bill clinton did the same with the grand jury and bush and company also when they did not count all the votes,
Without this social contract I could reach into your computer and screw you
This did not come out of my head , hume and jefferson of which clinton is also named shaped the social contract
You are wrong to state that it is "
he existence of any "social contract", particularly one in which the terms are dictated by you"
I am just trying to follow, and act ethically there is to little of it in this world today, and it is easier to not on the net.

kintori:  Is there something in the concept of a "game" that escapes you?  You're taking this waaaay too seriously.  Moreover, I would dispute the existence of any "social contract", particularly one in which the terms are dictated by you.

I admit I have no knowledge of the situation you describe, and if I did I might be offended by a player's conduct.  But to elevate this to a moral level is overkill.

Subject: social contract
We players, when we click a button to play a game on the net sign a social contract with the opponent.
This social contract is a means for the playing field to be level.
It keeps players honest and ethical.
This is even for so for the web venue.
It would appear that is not the case with some players at BRAINKING.
Case-in-point:
A team match was created by a big boss, a player's first team match and being team captain.
Well this player is somewhat of a jester and sent a draw request to his first opponent whom happened to be 100+ points less experienced, this draw request was tantamount to break a leg for an actor
This player never in his wildest dreams believed the opponent would accept
What made it really trouble-some was that the opponent did not consult the team captain nor did he send a query to his opponent as to whether this was in fact a true draw request.
Please keep in mind no move had been made in the game.
Further, this is a chess match to pit chess knowledge against knowledge and it is a team match which puts it in a class higher than single combat.
What this opponent has shown is that he cares nothing about the team, has no respect for other players, and is rude, mean, and empty.
The only reason this was done is because of the protection of the net.
No one can punish him for his acts.

alanback: <pre> is a (X)HTML element for pre-formatted text. The text is displayed in fixed-width font, and formatting information such as line feeds and leading spaces or tabs are preserved. So if you write somthing in one line without inserting a line break and put it in inside a <pre> element, it results in on line and doesn't get broken in parts.

I don't think typing in pre works if you are using the rich text editor - you have to click the pre button in rich text editor.

Fencer: Could you have a look at my last post on the Madhouse Board. Its one with some Tournament results.
I set it out different from normal as you can see, by copying the URL locations & letting brainking convert them.
Just to make it all neat any tidy i used the 'pre' tag (you taught me lol), but it has no effect.
Is this down to me not using 'a href=' attribute and naming it myself or another reason ?

edited by me, just done a test, it appears the 'pre' tag no longer works

Gordon Shumway: I just created a Single elimination for 4 tourney (posted on Tourney board). I put in for random seeding, random starting (when applicable) & 2 wins to advance.

I wonder how it will start that one out.

joshi tm: But it indeed levels it up a bit.. In a normal game currently the Mancala stats are ca. 60% white, 4% draw and 36% black. In a 1 win match a player who starts with black has ca. 38% chance of winning (if we just look at the white/black advantage, not at player skills of course..), in a 2 wins match ca. 44% and in a 5 wins match it is ca. 47%, which is close to even.

Does anyone else ever wonder if sometimes in Poker the dice you select to roll do not actually seem to roll.
I think of the times i have rolled 2, 3, 4 or 5 dice and got exact the same numbers back.
Just seems to be a very much above average of probability (someone can work it out lol) that this is happening.
An observation really as i do not play a lot of Poker, someone who plays a lot would have a better idea i guess

Well, when it comes to unbalanced games like Mancala I'd always prefer 3-wins-matches or something like that, so things get a bit more even. But why not let it be random who's white and who's black?

Gordon Shumway: Lets say we have an Eliminator 8.

The seeding would be:

1vs8
5vs4
3vs6
7vs2

In fact a second best player you will always play Black, as first rated player you'll play White all the times.

Great. I requested this feature for in some games one player hass an advantage. For example in a Mancala elimination tournament always the highest rated player wins.

I should always copy and save the whole profile to the notepad after I finish with a profile edit... that will solve a lot of time. :-) You could also save old versions of your profile there and can always go back to one of those... ;-)

Good luck in the future!
