I was just wondering: how many Brains does a paying member get for referring someone that eventually buys a lifetime mebership?

Subject: Re: Backgammon apparent piece movement
Walter Montego: Actually, if the two opponents are sitting one in front of the other both will be moving their pieces in the same direction. In this case, you'll move them anti-clockwise (for instance) and it will look like your opponent is moving clockwise, though, in his/her point of view, he's moving anti-clockwise as well.

However, if the two opponents are sitting side by side, they will indeed have to move each one in opposite directions.

This said, it doesn't matter to me which way the board goes, just as long as it stays the same during the whole game

If you want to make a neat test, try writing a few characters using the latin alphabet, then paste some arabic ones and the another latins chars. Then move your cursor around and you'll see it gets all mixed up as well...

Of course, it's not your points that matter, but the ones of the opponents you beat in the tournament. So, if you won those 3 games to opponents that ended up with 2, 3 and 4 points respectively and the draw was to a player who has 1 points, your final SB will be 2 + 3 + 4 + 1/2 = 9,5. Hope it's better explained now

7. February 2006, 18:16:53
pauloaguia
Subject: Re:
Summertop: The "points" are the points you end the tournament with. If you win 3 games and draw another, you'll have 3 and a half points. These are the points that are used to calculate SB score.

Mrs.Reeves: From the rules page:
"Crawford rule: If a player reaches a score which is only 1 point away from winning the match, the next game is played as a Crawford round. In a Crawford round, the double cube is not used. If this round is finished and the match is not completed, the doubling cube can be used in all following games of the match."

That match is 1 point away from over. So the Crawford rule applies I think

Anyway, it won't automatically release you from that tournament. Not until all the games in that section are finished.

Now, if you PM Fencer and ask him nicelly, maybe he'll get you out of it. (I think you have to finish all the games, though)

Subject: Stairs again...
1) Stairs can be created for all types of games on BrainKing. Your membership level determines how many Stairs you can enter:

Brain Pawn - 1 Stairs
Brain Knight - 7 Stairs
Brain Rook or higher - unlimited

So, what happens when a knight becomes a pawn, for instance? And what happens to the stairs games (s)he's playing?

AtomicGuy: But you can enter a tournament as a pawn. Just go to the Tournaments section and select one.

As a pawn you can enter only one at a time and you cannot create them but you can still have some of the fun ;)

But at this rate, the 100 game barrier will be broken sometime early next year. Then my dream of being rated in all of them will finally be impossible, and I'll stop worrying about that

Make friends and play against them...
