Fencer, is there any other link to that board in the site besides the one on your message here? (which will soon get cluttered under all the other posts)

Oh, I just found out one in the DB's page... but can't there be one in the game page as well?

Oh, and welcome to BrainKing ;)

anastasia: the Waiting Games page only shows the games you can accept. It may be different for many people depending on the games that are actually waiting. For instance, you won't see any games where the creator has specified that no pawns can play that game. Or those that don't want to play against unrated players. So if now I see 133 games you'll probably see a different number and so will probably many other people...

I allways wondered what would happen if I didn't remove it from the Main Page by the time a new one appeared. But I never could resist long enough to see it happen. Now I know :)

will pawns be able to follow up on the game? Or looking at the game board (pond?) is also restricted?

Nuno: yes, paying members do have the option to set autovacation on which means that, when they timeout, the time will be extended for another day in exchange for a vacation day (if it's a rook, then they have 30 vacation days to use).

Fencer: Don't worry - Opera doesn't reload the pages when I use the back button ;)

switch to Opera. I use it and never had a problem... not to mention I can set the zoom level for the page and keep it that way, so that the board will allways fit in the screen.
One thing I have against firefox: whenever I use the back button the page is reloaded... I think it's a waste of bandwith and time
IE... well, My main complaint is that I can't have multiple tabs, besides from that never had any problem with it either (at BK that is).

<If you want to know your own vacation days you can go to Settings -> Calendar and it says how many days you have left.
If you mean other player's days... well, then you can't know... (I really think there should be a way too)

When a game times out, that day is set as a vacation day. If another game times out 5 mins later, it will notice that day is already set as a vacation day and automatically extend itself, without spending another day.

Subject: Re: about points again
Mamba: that's the general idea behind the rating system: you get more points if you beat higher rated players. higher rated players are (suposedly)harder to beat, so when you win a game against one, you get a bigger reward. Makes sense, no?
Also, if you are 400 points behind and win a game against a big player, you'll get more points then if you're ratings are similar.

Of course there are other factors like number of games played and I think the formula is different if it's an established rating or a provisional one. But the general idea is the same.

maybe you should ask it at tablut DB so all tablutians could say from their mind... but I think it's the same as when a pawn gets between two opponents: it doesn't get captured. In this case it wasn't the black that surrounded the king, it was the king that went to the middle of the pawns...
but if black captures the white pawn and then it can't move, it should be a victory for black... I think...

I don't know if either is right... Fencer said the absoulte URL's would be converted to relative URL's and neither of our 'proposals' of relative URL's worked :)

I think relative URL is like /game/Board?bc=1
and absolute url like http://brainking.com/game/Board?bc=1

so, while one is waiting to be posted, the other is answering them and a third one is already getting his questions prepared... sounds like an interview assembly line :)

Fencer And new games again 1. September 2004, 09:45:31
Modified by Fencer (1. September 2004, 10:17:43)
BrainKing brings 3 new games - Jarmo, Alquerque and Froglet. My thanks go to white for those little froggies and Sinay for boards of Jarmo and Alquerque. Yes, I know that boards for Jarmo and Alquerque are too big, I will add smaller ones soon.
Besides, lots of bugs was fixed (!!!!!e.g. multiple jumps in Czech Checkers!!!!!) and added several improvements.

On a (maybe not so) unrelated subject:

What's the point of the polls link on the menu? Those poll results are there ever since I became a member (and I can only imagine how much more time before that). Maybe it should be hidden when there are no active polls (meaning one month after the last poll has closed, so people can still see the results for a while)?

I agree (I didn't 2 hours ago, but now that foul play has come to the table, I changed my mind). I also understand some other sites are changing their mind on this matter...

So, Fencer, how are the new ratings gonna be recalculated? We could be discussing this all night (or day) but you're still the only one who has the knife and the cheese in the hand (hope that doesn't get lost in translation)...

Subject: Pawns and tournaments
What happens if a pawn wins his/hers section in a tournament, passes on to the next stage but has already used up all the 20 game slots in the meantime?

Just wondering...

I think that if you wait for the 60 min refresh without loading a single page it will eventually show you has offline... but I'm not sure about this...

How many wins game is it? If it's a 5 win game, for instance, you have to loose 5 games, before it's finally over...

The resign link is avalibale at the bottom of the board, wether its your turn or not...
Or is it that pawns have some feature that other members dont? :)

Euro is definitelly not English. They didn't want it :P
Euro is from almost everywhere else in the EU.

1€ = 1.24$ nowadays. Latest convertions can be found here. But you may have to add some conversion fee or something, I think it depends on the payment method and the country you're in...

How come the last game finish messages I've been getting don't have the ratings as they used to?
Has there been any change in this?

the captured pieces in checkers still show up with the old set (a pawn, a king, etc) not the new round pieces...
At least I still get the pawns, up there... or maybe it's a cache thingie (I've refreshed the page severall times already).

Subject: green online dots
how about adding those green dots to the waiting games page?
And to the rankings pages (instead of that "online status" column with a pawn)?
And to the left of the player on the game page?
And... well, I guess you know what I mean :)
