 Languages

Ask questions or just talk about different languages. Since BrainKing is an international game site supporting many languages, this board can be kind of useful.

Since we will be dealing with pronunciation of words rather than their spelling, I think it's useful to have a link to The sounds of English and the International Phonetic Alphabet.

To see translations of some frequently used phrases and sentences in other languages see Languages

Looks like Fencer already took care of it.

Efficient, as allways *135*

Another suggestions:

  • I don't really speak this language.. I think this may come in handy when someone replies to you in the language you used and you don't know what they're saying.
  • Going on holidays. Won't play for a while.
  • Could you please make a move on game abc?

pauloaguia: I've just made a small visual change, otherwise the page would be too wide when all languages are filled.

Fencer: I still think that my suggestion in the Features Request board would look nicer. But if you really want to stick to the table layouts then maybe alternating background colors could help ("Good Luck" in white, "Thank you" in grey, "Enjoy the game" in white, etc)

pauloaguia: Where can we find it?

yoyudax: Top left corner, under the flags in the "(more about languages)" link.

Fencer: nice!

maybe another idea would be to have the poster place the code in between a certain code which then would be parsed by the site when someone reads it and shown in the language they have selected to view the site

for example you post [lang]"diky"[/lang] and i would read "dank u wel"
(the site will see you write in czech as you have czech selected as your language, so it looks up your text in the czech list, and then translates it to dutch as thats the language i have selected

it might be tough though as the site wont find "diky" in the czech list as its missing some accents .. and therefore would still show it as "diky" to me as its unknown to the site :)

Great! Although I would prefer an extra link to the dictionary, as I didn't find it until I followed the link in this board - I would possibly never had looked at "more about languages" ;)
edit: I think it may be enough to post a link in the description of this board?

So where can I post the translations of those phrases now? Post them here, send a pm to Fencer?

Mr. Shumway: the German translators should take care of it. They have the tools to do it. Either diogenes, Caissus or gogul...

This dictionary could be useful, but I think it's important to make sure we get the entries correct. For example, "Good night" is two words.

pauloaguia: In that case King Reza could add the Languages link to the header of this page and those of us interested in more sayings to translate can add them here for Fencer to check out.

A right nice page there Fencer!
