Subject: Re: Go?
If you're doing Go, make sure you get the only correct scoring algorithm: none at all. Just let the players mark the dead stones until they agree on the score, then simply count enclosed spaces.

IYT has an automatic algoritms to determine dead stones, and it invariably fails, which is the mean reason I let my IYT membership expire.

Subject: Fischer Random Chess
Is Fischer Random chess here? Is it like normal chess but instead each colours back row of pieces are resorted randomly and each side's setup is different. I think there are also different castling rules. I think chessbase.com have the low down.

Subject: Game Move Archive
I haven't seen anyone ask this. Are the game moves archived so that one can replay games they've played? If not, is that a hard thing to do? (I don't want to ask for too many hard things, since Fencer probably has all he can do to keep up with the new features he's been implementing lately!)

Do you mean if I want to go look at someone elses past games? (and go through the moves they made).

I have already looked at some of the top players moves on past games for some games I'm trying to learn - so I guess that is already there (if that is what you are asking).

But then the positins are pre-defined. Also, could you put more functionality in the javascript so you could view your score against each opponent or view your games by opponent?

Subject: Main Page loading time
I'm sure not many players have this problem, but for me the main page loads very slow because of the number of games i am playing. Most of the time when i log on, i go through the DBs, and then click on the red link beside "Main page" to start playing, so i have no need to see my list of games.

My request: The option to have a page when you log on with the columns on the left and right (or top and bottom with row layout), and nothing in the middle. That would save a lot of loading time :-)

Thanks!

Subject: 2 game sets
I agree with Dmitri King on the 2 game sets. I think this is one of the good aspects of iyt. Also individual games in a multi game match should count. The exception to this should only be if the games affect each other, as in a backgammon match that uses the doubling cube.

Subject: Pente
I noticed there is no "i" column. Is there a reasom for this? My only guess is it could get confused with "L", but at least for me, having no "i" is more confusing than having an "i" and "L". :-)

Subject: Re: Pente
Yes, the "i" and the l" get confused, particularly when upper case and lower case are used. what is confusing about not having an "i"?

Subject: Re: Pente
Nothing, really...i guess it only really could be confusing if you just kept the moves and tried to rebuild the game. You'd have to know there was no "i" column.

Subject: White screen
Maybe it is because I play on a webtv (MSNTV) system there is this problem. Occassionally when I click on move and goto the next game button I get blank white screen. has anyone else whether they use webtv or a PC had this situation occur?

Subject: Re: White screen
I also have webtv and it happens to me regularly. I do notice it's usually temporary and usually happens when you click on "go to next game". So, instead of that I click on either "go to main page" or "go to game" (?) (it's the one that you use to choose which game to go to). After doing that a couple of times, it's usually ok to click on "go to next game" again.

Subject: Discussion Board Subject range.
Fencer, I was wondering whether it would be possible for you to add a broader range of discussion boards, to include perhaps some light-hearted subjects; boards where people can go to banter and chat in general, rather than specifically about the games. This would take the off-topic light-hearted bantering away from the more serious discussion boards such as your brainking.com board, and the boards relating to specific games. People would then feel more at liberty to post jokes etc and would have a place to go to post up non-topic chat stuff. This would also make it easier for people to know where to go to find that sort of chat and interaction within the site. Maybe even just one new board for "general chat"?

This is a great site - keep up the good work!

Blaze

I have a WebTV <MSNTV> system, too, and have a couple of suggestions. Power off and when you come back the white screen should be eliminated. However, it is continues, try deleting your cookies. It was happening to me this morning and after I deleted the cookies, I can more around here with a lot more speed and the white page is gone.

I have deleted my cookies and deleted the discarded e-mails from my e-mail storage area as well. I also find that sometimes that is not enough. If I spend long periods on the webtv it happens too.

Rabbits2: Thanks for the info note on this subject. I have an old version webtv by Sony so maybe that is part of it as well. I just wondering if it was happening to PC people too. So far it looks like a webtv glitch.

shut it off, pull the plug for 2 minutes, then click moved, and keeping the im off does speed it up. you can clear cookies under help on your home page, then click latest news, then utilities and clear them.

If i only have a few friends/ppl i am playing on line i can get to my friends page, but the more ppl that come on seems to stop me getting there & also make other games very slow to access. All part of the server i guess - i am sure Fencer will tell me lol

Hello all. I apologize for not keeping my posts on the appropriate boards. I will post my rants on the approrpiate boards from now on. I think some of these discussions got carried away before everyone realized we weren't conducting them in the right place.

If anyone wishes to continue the arguments about pente, Keryo pente, or IYT, we can do so at the pente, Keryo pente, and general chat boards, respectively.

Subject: Two-game matches
In games, where the players have unequal pieces and goals (such as Tablut), it could be nice if you could create a match with two simultaneous games with different colors for players in each of the two matches.

Subject: Re: Two-game matches
Magister Ludi, I agree. But, I think Fencer is already workign on this-- he has already done it for tournaments, and I think he said he is working on it for non-tournament play. As it is, we cna invite the player to two separate games, but, being able to do it in one step would be nice.

Subject: Leaders boards
Fencer, I think it is great that this site has ratings and leaders boards. There is no money at stake with htese games, so the only prizes are pride and recognition. But, I have noticed a bothersome trend, that is, some players play ENTIRELY as player 1 in games like pente and Keryo pente, where player 1 has a big advantage and most people know it. As a result, some people cheaply get ot the top of the rankings who do not deserve to be there.

Here is my idea for a solution: on the ratings boards, there should be an extra column, in addition to name and rating: it should say
"% of games played as player 1." Then everyone can see who the real gamers are and who the phonies are. Since the ratings calculation is the same for player 1 or player 2, I think this is essential if the ratings are to mean anything.

Subject: Re: Leaders boards
Yep, that would be a good idea.
But one thing would have to be changed first: currently if you play 2-game matches and play white in game 1, it says in your completed games that you played as white. Even though you actually played one as white and the other as black.
