Subject: Fix backgammon rules
Here's a perfect example in Hypergammon of the BG bug. In this position as black I rolled 5-1 and could have moved 12-7 to great advantage (being not able to play the 1). Since this is against the rules I didn't play it that way. Since Backgammon is by far the most popular game, I would think this should be one of the listed priorities.

lol. I looked at your games, and indeed we are.

Fencer, i don't want to name names since it seems like it might be a system error. Any chance you could check into this? I'd kind of like to know how I do in these games before the apocolypse.

While we're on the topic, do we really need 30 days per year? I wish I had 30 days where I couldn't get to a computer, lol. In reality I doubt I use more than 10.

Actually come to think of it I have an opponent who hasn't moved in over a month. That would surely mean at least 20 days of autovacation, yet he still has 21 days left.

I'll go with 3: Backgammon, anti-backgammon and hypergammon.

And people:

lose is the opposite of win
loose is the opposite of tight

it is amazing how often they seem to be confused.

Walter Montego: Actually 5-in-line is very different than Pente in my opinion. Also I agree that some chess variants are very different.

Actually i think all the backgammon variants are skewing the results, after all they are all pretty much the same.

How about a "submit and go to next pond" button?

And if there is no pond it goes to the front page.

I can't see why I want to stay there after betting.

I guess I'm not getting that though?

Once again I have opponents timeout and get autovacation while they are online!!!! Autovacation should not be intended to protect players who can't keep up because the started too many games, only players who cannot log in for some reason.

My feature request is: Autovacation only kicks in for players who have not been online for at least the last 24 hours.

If you're that concerned don't let your kids use a computer, or watch TV. Perhaps we should burn a few of their books while we're at it?

Personally I've never seen anything offensive here.

I think it's a little naive, not to mention overprotective, to be worried about this site.

Kids can go anywhere on the internet, if this is where they end up I wouldn't be worried in the slightest.

Subject: Re: I'll try again each time until I at least get a response...
Summertop: There's no such thing as timeout, if you don't move you get last turn's move.

Problem is that in the first run there is a pawn bidding 10 each turn. Therefore 90% of players just bid 11. Each turn someone bids 0 in an effort to drop out of the game, which prolongs the agony. If we didn't have the perpetual 10 bid it would be more interesting (even though the zeros would still usually mess us up).

Subject: I'll try again each time until I at least get a response...
Fencer,

PLEASE allow pawns to finish ponds they signed up for while being paying members. It spoils the game otherwise.

alternative: All pawns autobid zero, that way they are out of the way.

I don't mind which solution, but it should be one or the other.

Thanks.

Daniel Snyder: But you appear not to have played any games!!! I have played 250 and have a reasonable rating. I can guarantee that white has an advantage very early in the game. Black is on the defensive from move 1.

It may not be enough to force a win, but it is much easier to make a mistake as black.

22. February 2005, 19:51:18
grenv
Serious request.

Atomic Chess has the slight drawback that white gains an early advantage due to how quickly the king can be attacked. I propose an 8x10 board, 8 wide as normal, with normal pieces, but 10 deep. This should make for a more circumspect game.

Here's what I do with the info: If I see someone playing a game against me, I'll link to that game (especially if it's a chess variation) and refamiliarize myself and start thinking about my next move.

BBW: You're n ot moving quickly because you're playing 800+ games. I was actually wondering why I kept seeing you online yet no moves were forthcoming. Notice I didn't harass you about it though

i think you'd have to give the second player a turn if he is destroyed. If (s)he destroys the enemy it's a tie. Thus taking away the first turn advantage.

How about a feature where we could play several moves at once if our opponent has no move available, until one does become available? We could call it Automove, or SensibleCheckingOfPlayersAbilityToMove!

Sumerian: I believe the programming to be about the same more or less. Better to get the answer correct.

EdTrice: Your solution won't calculate winners in all situations either. Sometimes a winner can be determined even though other players could tie them, because of S-B scores.

Subject: Re:
Sumerian: I had to read your answer thrice before concluding that your solution is slightly flawed and wouldn't be 100% effective.

With computers it is better to just consider all possible outcomes and see if the group winner is the same for all permutations.

Often it isn't even necessary for the group winner to complete all his/her games.

I agree, AND i don't think it's all that difficult to program, maybe time consuming though. I think it's more important than Ladders or Unicode support.
