Modified by Nothingness (13. March 2005, 23:36:00)
Im trying to set up espionage games. where i only want to face people of certain ratings. but it does not work for me. what am I doing wrong. for example i want to play a game of espionage against poeple with ratings of 1900 or higher. HOW EXACTLY DO I DO THIS!!!!? Ive tried it before and Unrated players still are able to challenge me. Could anyone give me a step by step tutorial of how this is done. I need to know each button click exactly how it is done. Dont just say go to this and click this... i need a thorough explaination.

1,2,3,4 and 5 are all generals. jsut its one star general through 5 star generals.. and only a spy can capture a 5 star general.

heres a tip for the beginner espionage player. you will notice that some players will trade their 5s in exchange for their opponents 4s. This is not a mistake. Many feel that they are of equal value when in fact they are not, but it mainly depends on the situation adn your playing style. you can play a 3 vs a 5 fairly well if your an advanced player. Also be cautious about giving away your spys. they are your most prized pieces!!! No eyes no fight!

hmm i see your not very well versed in espionage /sabotage/ stratego strategy. being able to move back to the same spot prevents your opponent from tracing (not tracking) you while retreating from blind pieces that are discovered at a later time. but attacking is dangerous if you are able to move back to the same spot (very difficult to explain in this post). so you have to think a bit harder. As for comparing chess to other sites HUH?! Chess has "CHESS" rules. Espionage is its own game which followed a specific set of rules for that particular game and could be changed at any time. Chess rules are exactly that... chess rules you cant change them (well you could but then it becomes a different game). Espionage was made here and can be changed by the creator of the game. But now Espionage is Sabotage. a variance would be nice, with both sets of rules.. As for ratings i love the ratings system b/c it is like USCF. Please dont change the ratings system.

Subject: maybe i can help
well i think maybe b/c this is the "EXACT" same game as they have on Itsyourturn.com. and that site is on its way down. and it wouldve been nice to see a slight variance of that game on this site. that 1 rule changes the game alot! in more ways than you can count. many are going to slowly be filtering over to brainking 1 by 1 jsut as i have. and we are a very competetive bunch and have created a league with its own website, We are in season 6 of our league which has been around for maybe 3 years. It wouldve been nice to have a differnet game. many are still staying away until there can be a non-volcano variant of espionage. If im off on this explanation Bdilly jstu give me your reasons.

Subject: dissapointment
i dont like the fact that espionage is now an exact clone of sabotage from IYT. i wish we couldve kept the side to side movement. many of the iyt regualrs liek my self are now wanting the volcano-less variations i think they are a great addition but i prefer the volcanos and really coudl careless if those version are added to Brain king. What we need to do now is to add more volcno variations. ive only seen a few as it is. Some are much more easier to negotiate than others.

i was curious as to hopefully changing seomthing in the game. When you view a game that is currently goign on, you cant seem to tell the armies apart. Both armys look gray. i like to study ongoing games but cant do this if both armies are the smae color.

Subject: forward backward
well you can only move backward than forward but not forward than backwards. this site beats IYT b/c of the legit ratings system adn the format of all games. it has its flaws but they are much better than IYT. i was on iyt for liek 4-5 years and will be leaving after season 6 is over.

well i think having the list is fine but only for pieces you have already identified. otherwise it eliminates the purpose of the spy. Which is used to identify pieces. i hate typing the stuff out as well.

Subject: piece tracking..
ths is quite easy once you get the hang of it without having a piece captured section. If you use your spies, properly you can see the pieces otherwise this will never happen. you cant blindly throw pieces into the ? pieces or it really dont matter what your trying to track. your going to lose.you need to use them spys properly. they are your "EYES"! you have to learn how to use your notes. than you can put your captureed pieces there. so i track as follows: 1,2,5,3,2,sap,SPy, sap,4,4,1,1, etc etc. if i dont know what i captured i put a +3 or a ?....

Subject: rule or glitch?
i was playing the small version and i made what i thought was a good move. forcing a 5 back with my sapper whilr attacking another piece on the other side of the board. the only way that his 5 would escape was to move two pieces backwards, but he was able to mvoe the 5 forward again to the same position it had jsut moved from the last turn. you cannot do this move in the fast verion... only in the small verison??!?!?

Subject: :Re volcanos etc
yup agreed.. volcanos change the game considerably . it would be a nice option...along with the unlimited side to side motion it will be interesting to see it on this site as well. as for 4 vs 5 i prefer to ahve the 4 but really it all depends upon the situation. and your playing style.

Subject: sappers value
this is why so many people value their 4s to their 5s.. i prefer to trade off my 5s for my opponents 4s so that i dnt have to worry about sappers. to me 4s are = value to 5s... this also frees up my sappers that i dont have to waste on killing 5s...in a trade off. you cant beat an opp taht has his base surrounded with bombs if you have no sappers and its an even game.

they have this feature on another site that i play a similar version of this game. There are good and bad things about this. it eliminates a BIG factor of the game and it woulde totally change the game. in the other game you play totally blind 100% no REoncs or SPys.. ande the gmae would become totally random, if anyone is interested in knowing that site.. www.deepmachines.com/bigbattle

Subject: not really...
there are tricks to getting in in that situation. it all depends on where your base is and what pieces you ahve left.. if you ahve less pieces than you have moves..e.g. you have only two 5s and your playing the fast version that means that you have to move both of those pieces. than i can work my way around you b/c your forced to move. so ill sacrifice one piece to get to your base...one will get through. but getting the sappers is another challenge. no experienced player will let them go that easily so taht situation will almost never happen!

Subject: tip..
a tip for beginners dont assume that b/c a rank is worth more you shouldnt protect it vs a sacrifice.. e.g. if you have a 4 and its protected by a sapper and you assume that your opponent wont trade his 5 for your 4 you are sadly mistaken. with all that said i dont want you to fall into the trap of you thinking your opponent wont attack b/c he thinks your 4 is protected by a sapper.. and it really isnt. b/c if he attacks your 4 with his 5 and it was a bluff on your part your down a 4 and in very big trouble.. many feel that the 4 is the most valuable piece on the board.. but it really isnt its all in the sitation.. ive seen 3s used very well.. so dont assume that b/.c you have both your opp 5s adn he has only 4s left that you got the game in hand! b/c you dont!

Subject: thomas barnes suggestion
i like what you suggested with the second board. it can be a pain to track pieces.. basically though i do not worry about teh juggling of pieces it is mainly used as a distraction from teh real plan.. so when a piece moves that i dont know..e.g. when you get into the gmae more you can use psychology to analyize a situation such as ... if i jsut attacked you with a 5 and you had no idea that it was a 5 until it was just then revealed to you. i would watch your next move to see what piece you jstu moved more than likely it was a sapper. so ill track this piece BUT then comes the tricky part you could pull the swap! where you adjust that piece with anohter "?" piece. now i have to track 2 pieces this cna go on and on.. so you just have to save your spys and dont be so aggressive with them. without eyes you cannot fight! it can get quite intense at times... hang in there. remember though you ahve to knwo when to be the aggresor and when to be defensive only a good mixture of both will help you win!

Subject: whoa!
that would be confusing especially when pieces start getting moved around alot...youll have 13,1,5,6,8,22,30 all next to each other thats way to many numbers. ill jsut keep my note taking ways... 1,2,3,+3,-4,R,S,X,X,1,5,etc.... much easier..

well i have a loaded answer for that one! Yes its great feature BUT it is not wise to use teh same board more than once! If your opponent does any kind of studying game positions (which he/she should) than your set up will soon be found out and you will be crushed!

Subject: The switch.
for many years thsi "switch" move has been a thorwn in my side. But it has won me many games! I have accepted it as a part of the game. there is a site which plays this game only www.deepmachines.com/bigbattle where you never knwo the value of a piece every thing is done blindly. And believe me it definietly is flawed. I think that the reason they do thsi is to prevent pieces from being suicided and to proect your army more. In real war that would be considered savage. but i think that were gettgin off the subject. In my note taking i wouyld track both pieces for the rest of the game such as A1 and B2 and follow them around and maybe throw a 5 in front of it and i kknow that my ?5? is safe b/c it was a +3.

Subject: notes
remember to take notes after every move , it would be better for the notes to be atop the game board forr easy access. i do notes as follows. Captured pieces: 1,1,2,2,4,4,S,etc.... i will also do as follows -3, tis means that i attacked with a 3 and beat teh ? piece! or ill type +2 that means he attacked me with a piece greater than or equal to my 2. the notes are to be used instead of the captured pieces. Its part of the thinking process not to know what has been captured.
