I think this could be discussed at the mod squad? A lot of people won't even know about the fellowship or Nightstorm.

Subject: Interview with....
reza!!!!!!!!

http://brainking.com/en/Profile?u=9221

reza has kindly agreed to be interviewed next after several people asked for him. This should be an intersting one, I'm looking forward to seeing the final interview!

If you have a question for reza, send it to me by PM and I'll add it to his interview. These interviews wouldn't be possible if it weren't for all of you sending in questions. ANYBODY can send in a question, or 10 questions! No limit! I'll put them in some kind of order and send them to reza, who will answer the ones he wants and return them to me where they will be posted on the site, and you can see them by clicking the link above.

Get thinking about questions! And don't forget to tell me if its ok to add your name to the question - some people prefer to stay anonymous.

Backoff, floosie has her questions and is pondering the best way to answer them!

That reminds me, I did see the discussion about how people are chosen, I didn't have time to reply at the time - sorry.
Up to now I guess it has been me and Fencer who has decided, but I'm open to new ideas of how to choose someone. Someone mentioned a poll, that would be good but how would a short list be chosen for people to vote on?

OK guys this is getting personal now. Please stop this discussion, the flame pit is within the rules and anyone who is offended can leave.

In reply to your question: "is it not possible for Mgmt to at least require a rule that no one is to make up false and erroneous information without them being a part of the f/s?"

This would be very difficult to do. If actual names weren't used, people would get around that by nick-names or descriptions.
The person being talked about would have to find out about any information posted about them in a fellowship - and then who can tell if something is false or not? Its a very difficult request to honour, even if these rules were in place.

How many hours did that take, uptowngirl? (If you don't mind me asking).
You must have a fast PC!

It could be two reasons, reza. Its American Independance day, so the site has a holiday - and you have automatic vacation set. I'm not sure how that looks when its used because I haven't run out of time on any games to see, but that could be the cause.
If you want to change this, its in your settings. Just untick 'automatic vacation'.

Walter Montego: I'm still not convinced. If owners of other sites were to see people here comparing the two sites, it could cause trouble for Fencer. Especially if some not very nice things were being said. I could be wrong but I think this type of conversation has started up before and Fencer asked that we don't run down other sites here.
Besides, we all know

9. June 2005, 23:55:21

Would you mind replying at general chat, or in private? I think discussions about other games sites are off topic here. Thank you

9. June 2005, 22:13:56

Walter, Fencer doesn't just let the global mods do as they please. He reads all discussions we have and has the final say of everything. If we even suggested something he didn't like, he says so immediately. He hasn't handed over the site to us, we just assist in keeping it how FENCER wants it.

I thought a discussion about programmes was quite appropriate for a games site. If people are using them, it will affect the future of BK, or they may even become a feature! Programme assisted tournaments! That could be interesting!

6. June 2005, 23:22:05
harley
philip & Jules, I'll have to take your word for that, I've never seen a backgammon programme running. Maybe I'm missing something.

6. June 2005, 23:05:29

Can I ask which game it is? Dice games bring to mind backgammon, where no programme would help!

Tulip, if you send the game ID to Fencer he can advise further.

But at the same time Walter, we don't want this board swamped with issues that could (and quite often should) be dealt with either in private or in other places. If every issue was raised here and hashed out over one or two pages, other things would be missed. It would be ok if something was raised, and the reason(s) given were accepted, but quite often people want to dispute them and discuss every point. Then it can get personal and before you know it, there are a few hundred posts of which only a handful are of interest to the majority of members.

bwild, if there had been one other person online who could have moderated him, I would have left it to them. None of the board mods or other globals were online at that time.
I didn't remove him as moderator on my own, that was a group decision.
And the language happened BEFORE the moderating. He swore, I moderated.

6. June 2005, 16:52:32
harley
Baited by me how? I didn't post at all, not once, before he swore. Sorry but there is no way he can say I baited him into swearing.

Bluefin: I've never used cloak mode myself but I believe when you are cloaked, you lose the ability to see what uncloaked people are doing. Kind of like if we can't see you then you can't see us Thats probably what the message is you're seeing.

6. June 2005, 16:44:28
harley
Bwild, I was the moderator who you say first 'took action' against the individual you're talking about.
There was nothing biased about it. He swore, I placed him on hide. Simple as that. I'd do it to any member, be they moderators of the board they swear on or someone I've never had dealings with before. I messaged him to inform him of my action.
His actions after that prompted me to take it to the other globals, as this is an individual who we've had many, many problems with and a kind of ongoing discussion.
After another discussion between us all, it was decided to remove him as moderator. It is his own actions that caused the decision to be made, and it wasn't one we made lightly or without much deliberation and he had many chances given to him first.

Subject: Re: cloak?
Walter Montego: Yes, thats how it is now. Personally I don't mind either way, I never used the cloak mode and I didn't mind cloaked people seeing what I'm doing. Nor did it bother me that people are cloaked (even though my friends list went down to three people who were uncloaked!).
But I can see the logic in hiding uncloaked people from cloaked people.

If anybody gets unwelcome messages from another member, the first thing to do is place them on your blocked users list. If they continue to contact you through another name, or on public boards, game notes etc - contact a global moderator.
