I consider myself as a slow player, or, may be, slower one. Fischer's clock force me to play rather quickly and still there is possibility to make decent ammount of time for case of emergency. Because we paly from different timezones, I consider time bonus 1 day per move as minimal. Set initial time somewhere around 5-7 days and allow to accumulate more than initial time for needs like work, illness, vacations or so.

Nothingness: Article 10 is very problematic. Imagine, referee has rating 1800 and he must judge if player 2350 is attempting to win by normal means or not... It is one of the reasons why increment is prefered and article 10 is not applied.

K+B+N vs K needs 37 moves to checkmate. And if you know mechanism, it shouldnt be so hard.

Chess rule is not only 50 moves w/o capture, but also w/o pawn move.

In case this rule, it should be definitely more than 50 moves w/o capture. In chess is such rule applied after, say, 60th move, so there is near same ammount of moves available to realization of advantage as was length of games - and 60 moves is already considered as long game.

But I think there is no need for such rule. There is possibility to contact Fencer to claim game as draw and it should be sufficient.

I think Chaos could put names of obligated players on the top of this forum.

I think most players will accept such gentleman's agreement and weaker ones will lose with sooner, than such situation can happen.

SL-Mark: I meant people can play fast, if they are forced to. But some players do not understand how fisher clock works until they forfeit. But its not about slow moving:) Personally I like fischer clock. I realized, if I am playing espionage games faster, I am playing them better:)

I am in.

SL-Mark: You are right. I am quite slow player, sometimes quite a lot concerning to SL standards and I have "only" about 300 games. Simply its not comfortable to seek for some special game. Fischers clock games appears themselfs rather soon and for huge majority of BK members its not problem to play near every day if they must:)

happy hermit: may be it is because I am very passive player:) I see your point, but I think it could be very danger if radar is in midst of attack - with ejected aerial it cant move so it blocks own forces and using scan action costs time. May be there would be rule, that after 4 moves w/o action aerial automatically plug in and it cost one turn or so,but it llooks a bit complicated.

For attacking players there shold be parrachutist. It can move by two fields, also jump over vulcano (not ash at all:) and other stones. If landed on occupied field fight will start, if parrachutist win or if field is unoccupied, parrachutist also see all adjusted fields. Move restrictions - parrachutist can move by 2 fields every turn, but jump over occupied field once in two turns. Also after moving by two fields parrachutist is revealed.

Modified by lukulus (23. April 2010, 15:25:03)
Nothingness: it looks very powerfull, because is movable, but it inspires me to implement radar. It would have this actions actions: 1. move or just stand, in this case it cant see like other normal pieces. 2. eject aerial (cost one turn - in notation it is marked). With ejected aerial are two ather actions available - scan - to see, say,two pieces in all directions (cost one turn, noticed in notation) or plug-in aerial (cost one turn, noticed in notation). With ejected aerial radar cant move. Radar has not passive watching like spy has - it cant see enemy when dont scanning. Radar is very vulnerable and can be destroyed by all other pieces. "Moving" radar can destroy sappers, spies, radar and HQ.

I think, tournament can start immediately when maximum limit of players is signed for tournament. In this case there isnt any maximum limit, so tournament will start 1.9.

Subject: Re: BKR Ratings
SL-Mark: I see your point. Its matter of luck:) From this reason there are these new ratings provisional. I am not familiar with USCF ratings, because Czech chess federation is using ELO system (same as FIDE). But also in this system it is similiar - with difference your rating is provisional until you finished 9 (or more -it depends on how many games you play during period in which is rating calculated) games and from these games is you rating counted. It is better to defeat higher rated players in the very begining your career. But it is not good for internet ratings where change must be visible after finishing every game, not after some period.

Rating 1300 is used when two players without any finished game meet each other. If you finish first game, you still see non rated, but system is using your new rating.

Subject: Re: BKR Ratings
SL-Mark: I think to obtain rating 2500 you have to defeat player 2100 in your first game. And it is not so easy. Formula adds 400 pts to opponents rating if you win. If you win later, your rating will be smaller. In case of huge differencies you earn nothing from your following victories.

Yes it is frustrating, but if player with such huge rating isnt good he disappers or loose some games in future. If he is good, he wont hide and will defend his position.

Nothingness: Of course there must be such flaw. All chess ratings were developed for players who want play in tournaments or in tema games. These ratings doesnt count with open challenges because OTB chess doesnt know it.

BK use chess rating system. And in chess is not common that newbie meet 2000+ rated player and will be able to beat him. If player with rating 2500 lose a game his rating will drop rapidly.

Chaos: You can set Fisher's clock to e.g. 25/0/25 what means no added time, just 25 days for both players, but it means bigger problems wit time zones.

And for pawns I would rather recommended round robin - more games in one tournament

I used to play on IYT couple years ago and I must say now I don believe how can I play in fast tournaments:)

Problem with fischer clock is lots of people dont understand how they work, but if it is set well, than it is good option.
