wetware: Hi, yes I'm !

*** Excuse me for my (bad) english language ***

I have participated in tournament Fischerandom version of ITALIAN progressive chess (not SCOTTISH) and I prefer ALWAYS variant with "Italian mate"

But this is not very important... I would like pleasure that in BK play "progressive"; for me is better "Italian"... for other player is better Scottish).

Ok for Fischerandom progressive chess versions added in BK... but ALSO "FIDE" progressive chess; for me is better "FIDE Italian"... for other player is better Fischerandom Scottish.

Ok for the opening moves from the standard starting position have been explored in great detail... but ALSO a normal "FIDE" chess are in the standard starting position have been explored in great detail and all people play !

Now I do not know that novelties are very hard to find now...
BUT I WANT PLAY "PROGRESSIVE" !

Now, sorry... BUT I do not understand this:

========================================
(I've got one TN saved that I will not waste in any event less serious than a world championship.)
========================================

What means ?

I think the Fischerandom versions have more original analysis because a young variants... BUT "old" variants (FIDE, Italian progressive, ecc.) can have originals analysis.

I hope of understand your nex replay.

Bye, Tamerlano

tamerlano: I recognize your name from a couple of the World Internet Progressive Chess Championships.  (You and I were both participants in WIPCC 1998.)

I know you've also participated in similar events, for the Fischerrandom version of (Scottish) progressive chess.

If we were to have progressive chess versions added here at BK, I'd much rather see Fischerrandom versions--or at least have them offerred as alternatives.  To me, the opening moves from the standard starting position have been explored in great detail.  At the highest levels of play the range of acceptable opening moves is exceedingly narrow--at least in the Scottish version.  Playable theoretical novelties are very hard to find now.  (I've got one TN saved that I will not waste in any event less serious than a world championship.)

I think the Fischerrandom versions allow for more original analysis.  What do you think?

I would just like to excite your imagination.

In Westernized chess, one thing is irritating: the finals with Bishops on different colored cases. What do you think about the possibility of Bishop to move from one cell like the Rook?

I am surprised that so far, person had the idea of joining the cannon of Chinese chess. You know, the piece that moves as the Rook but could capture only if another piece is screening to the target.

I think it would be good to add it to a game like chess Grand Chess.

What do you think?

Subject: card board games ?
there is a little but very promissing group of games that use cards and they are played like board games ... I cannot imaging playing bridge at turn-based site and wait 2 weeks for for my partner to respond, or even fast Gin would be unbearable when time frame for a game would be 30 days or even more than 1 day ... card games have also something more unsuitable for turn-based site ... they are by nature closed games, and players memory plays a crucial role ... so, what you remember now, in just few hours would disappear from your depository and the whole tactic would be useless ... making notes what you are to remember is just boring task and it takes the whole pleasure of playing cards away from the players ...
but card board games offer simple solution to this dilemma ... the best example of thi kind of games is poker itself played as a poker squares, and the other one being cribbage which is even better than poker and can be played on 4x4 or 5x5 grid ...
Below is a link to David Parlett's game called Get Stuck ... please look at the rules ... it's fantastic game and worthy implementation:

I would still love to see a page dedicated to just the chat box(es).

A page that ignores the java settings for those of us who don't want chat boxes on all the other pages so it does not slow those pages down from loading (for those outside of the BK quick load zone around central Europe)

You could create a simple page, with the chat option, and all the instructions on one page.

Is this possible to add this 4 chess variants ?

1)
Balanced Marseillais Chess
http://www.chessvariants.org/multimove.dir/marseill.html

To reduce White's opening advantage, Robert Bruce suggested in 1963 in Nost-algia the following simple rule change: on his first turn, White only makes a single move. This rule change found wide acceptance (AISE shifted from the classical version to the balanced version in 1990), and usually is preferred above the unbalanced variant (although Fabrice Liardet still organizes Classical Marseillais tournaments in Geneva). The balanced variant has been called Balanced Marseillais Chess, but the `balanced' is increasingly being omitted.

And is this possible to add also this PROGRESSIVE chess variants ?

2)
Italian Progressive Chess

or
Scottish Chess

3)
Circe Progressive Chess

4) Progressive Take-All Chess

David B. Pritchard (chess writer) interview of year 2005:

Question:
What chess variants do you like most ?
Answer:
“Alice (especially!), Avalanche, Hostage, Marseillais, Progressive.”

Question:
What advice do you have for an avid variant player looking for opponents and competition ?

Answer:
“Join A.I.S.E. (Associazione Italiana Scacchi Eterodossi) or the B.C.V.S. (British Chess Variants Society) I am not qualified to make suggestions about meeting players on the Internet !”

Pritchard writed in your 2 books:

“Today A.I.S.E. (Associazione Italiana Scacchi Eterodossi) has done much to popularize Chess Variants by organizing two Olympiads and the same time establishing Italy as the leading Chess Variants nation“(The Encyclopedia of Chess Variants, Games & Puzzles Publications, 1994);

“When there is a talk of chess variants one country predominates: Italy. It is perhaps curious that a country that has no great claims to chess mastery should be the acknowledged repositary of variant wisdom.” (Popular Chess Variants, Batsford, 2000).

Fencer: for instance; right between the message area and the little wrench, you could have a little checkbox, which when clicked automatically adds a "/r", so you always reply in private when that checkbox is clicked. When you want to go back to public messages, you simply unclick it! Of course, if you are having multiple conversations the old /m and name would still work.

Does that make sense?

rednaz23: It would cause a server load increase if the list of online opponents has to be calculated on every page. Unlike the list of online friends (which is more static than dynamic because you don't change your friends every day - or do you? ), online opponents list depends on your current started games list which can be, in some cases, very long and time-consuming to be parsed for each page request.

I have two feature requests about checkers:
1) post the rules... preferably with a short description of the main features in each one and not based solely on references like "same rules as Internacional checkers but with a larger board". With so many similar variants being able to find the basics of the rules on a first click is a must

2) make a different border color for Czech Checkers and Corner Checkers (and possibly others). I just found myself playing CornerCheckers thinking I was playing Czech Checkers...fortunately by the time I noticed it I was winning already

If I want to create a tournie with a new game we have to add each team one by one before we can go to "define new tournie" to play the new games.
Or maybe it could be included somewhere in "define new tournie"?
Doe this make sense or am I talking double Dutch? lmbo!

Subject: Wild chess
On an chess server I used to play, I liked to play "wild chess" (to be pedantic, "wild chess style 3", as it has several different variants, all called 'wild chess').

The rules are as follows:

  1. Pawns start in their normal position (second row for white, seventh row for black).

  2. A random set of 8 chess pieces is generated, subject to the constraints that the set includes exactly one king, and no pawns.

  3. This set is placed randomly on the first row for white; blacks setup mirrors white (just like in regular chess).

  4. There's no castling.

  5. All other rules are the same as regular chess.

In this game, it might happen that you play with three queens, or four rooks.

One might even think of a 10x8 wild variant, where the set of pieces to choose from includes the Marshall and the Cardinal. (Or even the Amazon).

See also the wildchess wiki (style 3).
