no problem - reformulate it as "my mind is not too untwisted to avoid making any blunders in my games". take and aspirin and come back to the DB in the morning

I am not without a lack of concurrence for the things not stated by Fencer and rabbitoid on this subject also.

kevin probably meant :
"I don't think nothing on this site is gramatically incorrect."

I don't think it's excluded that I fail to disagree with that statement :)

Hey, it's perfectly normal that some typos can occur. Even in the Czech version. However, it's still better than English of certain native speakers here :-D

I don't think anything on this site is grammatically incorrect.

[edited to add the 2nd 'm' which should appear in the word grammar (and likewise, grammatically)]

Subject: I'm sure the confusion arises because of English not being fencer's first language
Modified by Walter Montego (14. December 2004, 03:43:21)
I have no idea how Czech is spoken, but just from seeing some of the typos on this site I can gather that it puts the verbs in different places like German does. It never ceases to amaze me how many people speak English and us Americans are so oblivious to how hard of a language it is to learn. Especially spelling it. All the words borrowed from different languages. Ever evolving too. Seems like the English I learned a few years ago is different than the one I use nowadays.

I agree that the wording for games being rated or not should be said in a different manner.

I agree. I accidentally entered a non-rated tournament. The double negative is not obvious.

At least it should be
Rated: Yes/No.

But BBWs method is clearer still. :)

I 2nd Jasons request. Maybe something like:

"These games are: RATED"
or
"These games are: UNRATED"

Simple, strait to the point - easy to understand. :-)

Subject: Special Counsel.
I had a brainstorm idea. Because Fencer is a busy guy and Liquid is as well, I thought of a way to aid Fencer and Liquid. Why not put together a special counsel of paying members to aid Fencer on decisions that involve rule breaking on the part of other players on the site. It could be a 3 to 5 person counsel. If someone is caught for instance playing with multiple IDs, Fencer could simply delegate the situation to the counsel for their thoughts and recommendations. Fencer then can look at their comments and make a decision based on the counsel's thoughts. It is another way for players to police themselves and aid Fencer. A player could also make a complaint to one of the cousel members as well which could lead to things handled by the counsel. Who would be in the counsel?? It would be a paying member for sure. They would be elected by the other paying members of the board. They would get nominated by Fencer. He could make a list of 15 or so people he feels would be good choices. From there we would decide by voting on who we wish to see on he counsel. You could put this on as a poll question. Top 3 to 5 vote getters get on the counsel. Their term would be one year or until their membership status ends, whichever would come first. About 11 months into the terms you would hold another election to see who stays and who goes. Fencer then could reward to the counsel with special renewal rates for membership extension.

Thanks BBW I always have way to many windows open already and all it does is remind me before going off what else I was doing... It is a fine line for me with being Obsessive Compulsive and also having Adult Attention Deficit Disorder lol I have been going to board after board and then can only change to games when there is nothing to read then i switch to games and go to next on line player untill i get the main page then i go to the games and play the remaining one as next game option. and when there is nothing else to do that is when I go back to the other windows that were sidetracks or ads or surf sites and close them but still haven't figured out the art of multi-tasking.

The problem I see with it is that it would take more time to load each game page with loading the extra column, not to mention using a little more server resource with each game played.

Plus as was mentioned, it would "squeeze" the game board since the game notation is there.

If I could, I would recommend an option to also remove the left side column while playing on the game page - which would allow game boards to load a little faster, etc...

If you have a computer, i actually keep 2 BrainKing tabs open, one that has the games I'm playing, the other to read boards and such.

Easy, just ignore ratings.

Not sure if there is a practical way to do this. Maybe some feedback...

Since in many games white has a big advantage, is there a way to make seperate ratings for games played as black and as white? I havent looked, but would bet that some people use playing white against unknowing opponents as a way to boost their ratings.

Just a quick followup to previous post.

As a side note, CurbYourEnthus & gamer07 has already been baned by Fencer (If I remember correctly from post many months ago)

I was thinking Fencer was going to remove the names from the ratings (Backgammon Race I think), but probable never got around to it.

It seems to be popular to sign up twice and deliberately lose a bunch of games with one in order to pump up your rating. I suggest we delete all these users as we find them.

Here are 2 examples:
babareza = amirh
CurbYourEnthus = gamer07

Even if they are different people they are setting up the games. :)

Subject: view of game boards
I'd like to see an option to choose from which side to view a game board. Especially when observing other people's games it is somewhat irritating that the board view swithces sides depending on who's move it is.

I'd suggest an option with four values:
- show board as it is now
- switch sides
- always show white
- always show black
This option could apply to observed as well as to played games.

Subject: Justification of columns
I'd like the numbers in the columns right justified instead of left as they are now. I think it's easier to see numbers when they're lined up in a column with like units stacked above each other.
