Subject: Guns, clubs, and hammers.
2011: 323 People lost their lives to rifles that includes assault type weapons.

But

496 people were killed by hammers and clubs.

Hint: Since the debate in the US centers around the assault rifle, why aren't they including in the debate hammers and guns???

Because they are all liars and morons. :)

Artful Dodger: No. you are splitting hairs. Guns are built for killing. Hammers and clubs may have other purposes.

You wouldn't use your assault rifle as a lever for jacking up your car would you.

guns do kill WHEN FIRED BY HUMANS....but their purposes are varied. sharp shooting is an Olympic event, hunting, plinking, protection, the list goes on.
a pistol makes a good hammer in a pinch.

Bwild: it's difficult for a person to throw a hammer 400 yards though.... n' not the competition side of the matter.

BTW... I don't think they'd be using assault rifles... not accurate enough.

Bwild: And some people collect guns only for the purpose of a collection (as in rare guns). If I owned a gun it would be for protection. But likely I'd go to the shooting range regularly so I could learn to shoot. And I'd take a few classes so I'd learn to care for the gun etc. And then my two buddies would convince me to join their gun club that meets here locally. One friend even makes his own bullets. And he hasn't even killed anyone!

(V): I wouldn't use a hammer or a club either. I'd use a jack. But that's not the point. One can reasonably argue that there are many purposes for owning a gun. And I don't split hairs. I'm bald.

Artful Dodger: ok... But an assault riffle is built for one purpose.. battle. N' the semi automatic version of the US own preferred main arms for it's military is still a gun built for battle.

(V): So what? Just because I own an assault rifle doesn't mean I'm going to use it to attack people. Most people (the vast majority) don't use their guns that way.

Artful Dodger: It isn't though your average hunting rifle, is it!

You mentioned hammers earlier. They at least require an up close attack, a semi automatic military assault weapon has a range of over 500 yards. It has a magazine that can hold at least 30 rounds, magazines holding 90 rounds can be bought.
