Are there still games going on in this tourney? Something doesn't look right to me but I'm guessing I just don't understand the layout.

Just finished a 4 person tourney that took a year and a half. That sucks.

rod03801: I did that when Fencer offered 10 rooks for 1/2 price and I "banked" them for future tourneys. It wasn't automatic but in a way the storing is on auto. My account was credited and I would just let Fencer know when I wanted to use them. :)

Fencer: Ok, I think I figured out what I was doing wrong (in my thinking). It always went to an online player before because there were online players available for moves (like just now). Sorry about the bug report. I get it now.

Papa Zoom
ok, so maybe I've just never noticed this before. If I have online players, and I choose one of those to start, it always goes to the next online player. And if I run out of online players, it goes to the main page. Then if I start playing off line players, it goes to the next offline. hmmm. I've never noticed it before but I'm usually zoning out and watching TV as I play.

Subject: Re:
rod03801: But this is the way it's always worked for me. I have my filter set to go to online opponents. It's ALWAYS gone to the main page when there is no online opponent. It NEVER has gone to the next available game. NEVER. Until now. And it doesn't do it in every case. The way it is filtering now is not the way it has filtered for me in the past. And IF it's supposed to go to the next game if the selected filter criteria isn't there, well that's not working consistently for me either. So either way, there's a problem. I tested this several times and sometimes I go to next game (when there is no online player) and other times back to the main page even though there are still several game in which for me to move.

3. December 2011, 17:24:28
Papa Zoom
Like just now I moved in a game. And the only other game available is an off-line opponent. After submitting my move I was sent to my game page (as it usually does in that situation). Only lately has it gone to next game. And then not in all cases. So that only adds to my confusion.

Subject: Re:
Fencer: I'm confused. It's set to online opponent. I thought it was supposed to go back to the game page if no online opponent is available (sometimes this is exactly what it does.)

Papa Zoom
I wonder if anyone else is experiencing this problem. My game settings are set to send the next game to online opponents. If someone is online, after submitting the current move, the next online opponent game appears. All is good. But, if there is no online opponent, it still goes to the next game instead of just going to the game sheet. It's never done this before and just started a few days or so ago. Odd.

This board is turning into my favorite board to read. I especially like one person's post here (who name I won't mention because of the potential harsh penalty)

I don't have any brains and with all the tourneys I play in, you'd think I'd have at least one (even the one in my head is questionable)

Aganju: Is it possible in such a tourney set up that one could accumlate 7 days and keep that number? I suppose they'd have to keep moving to keep it up and that would be the point. But I'm curious as to how the numbers would work exactly.

beach: Many people can handle many games. I am playing a few people who have more games than you and they do fine. But regardless, some tourneys have lasted years and it's usually one or two people who drag them out that long. That's just plain bad form on their part. Yes it's within the time limit, but I've always looked at the 7 days as useful for those that would be gone a few days etc. Not to be used as a literal 7 days per moves. But I get what you are saying and that's why I now try to pay attention to tourneys and only play in 3 days per move tourneys.

Also, when a tourney organizer knows who the slow pokes are (those that move at the last minute) then like me, they likely would remove those players from their tourneys.

Mélusine: I love the way you put things! That's why it's impossible to get mad at you. You make me smile. BTW, I think I've been behind that moral dilemma you speak of (more than once).

Here's another thought on having so many games that you time out. I know there are some players that jump in any tourney posted. Some tourneys have limited participants and when one joins, and then times out, they may as well not played at all. And they used up a slot someone else otherwise might have wanted. So for me, as a rule of thumb, if you are timing out in your games, play fewer games. Also, if you are committed to playing over 500 games, be sure you move many times a day out of courtesy to other players. One person dragging out a tourney is bad form and ought to be avoided.

But that's just me thinking out loud on the subject.

Marshmud: For the reasons you have stated, I have posted on my profile that I only want to play 3 day limit games. It's frustrating when I join a tourney and forget to check and see that it's a 7 day tourney. I know that I could die before it's finished.

Subject: Re: Slow players
Mélusine: One solution is to never play in a tourney that is over 3 days per move. Frankly, I wish there were a serious game limit here. Who needs to play 1000 games at the same time? Even 100 is tough to keep up with.

I did a poll in an fs once and found that of those that responded, 7 days was the least favorite, 5 days came in 2nd, and 3 days was hands down the favorite time limint by most. And yet, I don't see many tourneys with that time factor.

While it may not be breaking a rule, it's just plain bad form to wait until the last minute to make a move.

And that's my .o2

I have two computers I use to get on BK. One is very slow and this one is very fast. If I judged BK only by the slower one, then I'd say the site is slow. Fortunately I have another computer to compare. So I know that the problem is the other computer.

Whenever I have trouble with BK (rarely but it happens) I try other sites. But even this won't tell me what the problem is as it's a long way from the West Coast of the USA to Fencer's server. I have no idea the route that is taken but considering the mileage, even slow is faster than a US Jet Fighter making the trip at Mach Speed. Even dial up could be the fastest jet when you think about it. :)

Still, I understand it's frustrating when things are slow. But likely the slowness is due to the route one takes and not the destination.

"You are NOT allowed to let other people use your account. If you believe someone has access to your account, immediately change the password on your profile page."

So what happens if someone is using someone else's account because that person has decided to take a break from BK?

Can a person give their password to another person to make their moves while they take some extended time off?

Seems to me that this is one dog that needs a short leash.

Am wondering if that, in your tweaking of things, you could tweak it so that the Globals and Board mods lose their ability to use their moderating functions. Then, I can post a few mischievous
things on the boards without the threat of trouble. Hmmmm, or just tweak things so that I alone an unmoderable (a new word - maybe it's unmoderatable ).

I have no compaints because:

A. It will do little good.
B. Things will improve in the long run.
C. After things are improved, I'll be happy with the improvements and won't remember what I was upset over anyway. I have about a 2 days remembering system. Ask my wife.
D. And I just finished my taxes and I had to pay. Lots.

Paying the government more money is a huge annoyance.

BK bugs - no so much.

B4eye4get: The flaming boards have grown tame compared to how things used to be. And I'm semi-retired now. I'm glad Fencer doesn't get involved in the nonsense. You can't solve other's problems. People might acutally want to either grow up, or grow thicker skin. I don't want to grow up so I opted for thicker skin (and the block works very well too!)
