Subject: Baseball
News story

Tomorrow (Thursday, Feb 26th), at 8pm ET - live on MSNBC (and possible other news stations), you can watch history in the making!

The "cursed" baseball from the Cubs playoff game last season which some said started the whole downward spiral for the Cubs, which was bought from auction for $113,824 will be destroyed.

The Ball:
The ball figured in one of sports’ biggest collapses. With the Cubs leading the Florida Marlins 3-0 on Oct. 14 and just five outs from their first World Series appearance since 1945, Bartman reached for the ball hit toward his front-row seat at Wrigley Field, knocking it out of reach of left fielder Moises Alou. The Cubs then gave up a staggering eight-run rally to the Marlins, and squandered another lead in Game 7 the next night.

The Ball's last day:
The ball will get VIP treatment in its last hours, from a farewell trip to Wrigley and a last night on public display in a hotel suite to a final “dinner” of prime steak and lobster and even a massage.

It's going to be interesting!

Subject: Patriots maul the Panthers
ADAM VINATIERI'S late field goal handed New England a sensational 32-29 win over Carolina at Super Bowl XXXVIII.

Both teams were deadlocked early on as defence took centre stage before Tom Brady led the Patriots to a 21-10 lead thanks to touchdowns from Antowain Smith, Deion Branch and David Givens.

But Panthers quarterback Jake Delhomme led the comeback as the underdogs levelled matters at 29-29 with the clock running down.

And there was still time for the game to swing back in the Patriots' favour as Vinatieri smashed his 41-yard kick to secure New England's second Super Bowl success in three years.

The match-winner said: "The guys fought so hard all day long. "I'm just fortunate to have the opportunity to put the icing on the cake."

Despite narrowly missing out in one of the greatest NFL finals of all time, the Panthers were far from outplayed.

Delhomme was easily their best player and he put in a great fourth-quarter display - creating the platform for a 33-yard touchdown run by DeShaun Foster.

He then completed an 85-yard touchdown pass to Muhsin Muhammad, before combining with Ricky Proehl in a move that appeared to have sent the game into overtime.

But with the fans in Houston's Reliant Stadium warming up for more action, Brady again imposed himself on the game.

He found Troy Brown and then the ever-reliable Branch with fewer than 10 seconds left to give Vinatieri the opportunity to seal victory.

Not surprisingly, Brady ended the match clutching the Vince Lombardi trophy and his second Super Bowl Most Valuable Player award.

The quarterback beamed: "It's just incredible.

"It's unbelievable to do it the way we did. The guys made great catches and Adam drove that sucker right down the middle to win it. What a game."

New point system for 2004.

Link to news story

Summary: Sept. 11, 2004 will be a very importand race for many of the drivers. After that, the top ten in points (and anyone within 400 points of leader) will be put into the "Chase for the Championship" - for the last 10 races of the season.

The will redue the points for the top drivers so only 5 points will separate each driver. So the #1 guy will have 5,050 point, #2 will have 5,045, and so on.

This will be great for the fans & racers who normally end up in the 5-10 places. It will open up the championship for any one of those racers to win.

But to be in #11 or so would be bad - since as I understand it, there is no way to move into the top 10 during the final 10 races.

I believe when you sign up, you have 3 options.

1) Join an "open" league with anyone
2) Join a private league (which you would need the password)
3) Create your own private leauge.

Since you can only have 1 account, I can't go back and look at what it exactly says. I hope this helps!

On the NASCAR.com website, they have Fantasy games. I have created a league just for some of us BrainKing NASCAR fans. There is only 6 slots per league (so 5 left after me)

PLEASE NOTE: Since there is only 5 slots left, if you are NOT a NASCAR fan, please do not join - and leave room for other NASCAR fans.

How the game works - "Nextel Untimate Fantasy League" - At the start, each of the 6 teams "bid" for only 4 drivers. After about 24 hours, the highest bids win those drivers. During the season, you will be scored with 3 drivers (with the 4th being an extra I guess).

Interested.

My Name: BIG-BAD-WOLF

AGAIN - Please only NASCAR fans. To have others in this league who may not know what they are doing may make it less fun for the rest of us. (They also have "open" leagues you can join if you are interested in just trying it out.)

Let me know if you have any questions!

Exactly...like Hernán Crespo...he can't say a single word in English.

I think the big problem these days about having a Engilsh speaking coach/manager is that nearly all clubs have so many players from different countries. It makes me wonder sometimes how the players talk any tactics etc... on the pitch.

10. January 2004, 01:41:35
Pedro Martínez
Well I don't quite understand the English way of coaching/managing. I mean here there's one person who does both the training stuff like you say Sammy Lee does and managing the team during the games. I don't know Sammy but "hearing" what you say, I'd say there's noone who would be better manager of Liverpool. Keegan? Get out! If you want to drop to First Division, hire him!!!

I know what you mean..though Houllier is technically very good & is passonate about Liverpool fc, I would like to see a new manger from the famous 'boot room' at Anfield....like maybe Sammy Lee! I mean Sammy does everything at Liverpool like coaching, training etc...also he coaches our National team! he has also been there & done it in football for Liverpool & England! so why doesnt he have a go managing Liverpool! Also Ive heard rumours about Kevin Keegan managing Liverpool! That would be scary! lol

9. January 2004, 11:19:28
Pedro Martínez
Yeah, I heard those rumors too. The sooner the better. I keep telling everyone that English club should have English coach (or at least native English speaker - what would you say about American? - lol), Czech club should have Czech coach etc. I think the reason is as clear as daylight.

Yeh Milan Baros is rated very highly here & at the sart of the season he was playing regular from the start of the match, but he unfortunately broke his leg...we have really missed him & Im sure when he returns soon Houllier will start him again & give him his chance! But Houllier might not be here for long annyway!

9. January 2004, 02:09:58
Pedro Martínez
You know what, Matt, I love the way Milan Baroš plays and (no disrespect to Heskey) I think if he was regular and long-term Michael's partner in the Liverpool offense, I'd root for your team. But I'm not sure Houllier is going to give him as many chances to prove his skills as he would deserve. Hope he and you all will see in Portugal.

So until that time, my team is Newcastle.

lol! yeh Swansea for the FA cup! Thats the beauty of football, you never know what can happen! I love it when small teams make the later rounds, thats why the FA cup is so special!

Anyway I hope this big Liverppol win last night will give us the major kick start we need...well Owen should be back for the Aston Villa game on Saturday but if we dont beat Villa then that would be very dissapointing! I think we will, 3-1! :)

Who is your team Pedro?

8. January 2004, 23:00:05
Pedro Martínez
My words, Matt!!! I was watching the game on TV and if someone had told me before the game started that your team would win, I'd have thought he was an idiot. But these things happen, who knows, maybe Swansea is going to win the Cup...LOL
