Subject: Limits on allowed games

Fencer!! Please put limits on amounts of games a player has at one time..

I find it most ridiculous that players can have to almost 4000 games.. why is this necessary! It is frustrating enough that I wait quietly for her to make her moves..

ScarletRose:

Hear hear!!!!!!!!

No need for more than 200 in my opinion. You could guarantee moves all the time at the level, particularly if you opponents were also limited.

I second the request.

grenv - ScarletRose: Why limit those that have more then 200 and play fast. I have 400 games and dont have a problem keeping up. If you dont like the slow movers dont play the slow games, play the 1 and 2 day games then ya dont have to wait.

Skittles: 400 then, i was just picking a number out of the blue.

Fencer: I just looked around, but can't see where it's explained.

Skittles:Technically correct but if you put a game on waiting board for 1 day and it is then accepted by somebody that uses vacation this can cause the game to be extended

skipinnz: Not if you choose the option "no days off".

Mr. Shumway:Again true but for stairs and tourneys this option isn't available. and some people wait until the last moment to move

skipinnz: For stairs and tournaments this option is not available? There are "Very Fast Fischer's Stairs" with 3 days per game, which is always without days off. And please visit the tournaments page! Every tournament with a red dot has "no days off", and every one with a green dot has "fixed weekend only", meaning that only saturday and sunday are vacation days, and no extravacation can be applied!

Mr. Shumway: Yes, there are Very Fast Fischer's Stairs, but, as advertised, they are Very Fast. The only reason I haven't switched from Standard to VFF Stairs is that I can't be sure of maintaining an average pace of one move every 3 hours.

Fischer's clock would solve most of the time-related complaints I hear on BrainKing, if people would only use it. But a preference for Fischer's clock doesn't imply a preference for Very Fast time controls.

I'd like to request one or more sets of stairs that use Fischer's clock with somewhat longer time controls -- perhaps somewhere between 3/1/7 and 7/3/15.

Mr. Shumway:I think you are missing my point, everything you have said is correct but an example is a game stairs that I challenge somebody in takes a long time to finish if the opponent waits until the last possible moment to move. This also happens in Tourneys where a second round can't start as there are still games to be completed which might have no bearing on the round winner, but everyone else has to wait for their games to be completed

skipinnz: Still can't limit people that payed for the right to have no limits. There are a select few players on this site that are perfectly capable of playing on over 1000 games a day. If you want quick games put 1 day time limits. If you allow vacation days they will run out really quickly if they don't play every day and you have the option to not have days off.

skipinnz: in Fischer's clock games, there is no last possible moment to move - the time you have is for the whole game, not for the move. But as Dolittle pointed out, this discussion is a bit off topic...
All I want to say is that if you don't want to play against slow players - don't play against them. Brainking offers many possibilities to choose how and against whom you play your games. That is no argument against a speed rating or such. This is just a reason NOT to limit anybody. As mctrivia said: I payed for unlimited game slots. And I won't give them away because some people complain about some slow players. If you don't want them in your tournament, make your tournaments private! Marfitalu does so, he organizes huge invitational tournaments - it works perfectly!

Skittles: I am not the one holding up the tourneys! I have a small amount of games which is my preference and I don't even mind if they have several hundred.. but, when it gets to 4000 games.. that is a bit much!!

ScarletRose: I have tried to find and play against players with less than 100 current games by creating a backgammon tournment (it's still open to sign up South Pacific Midwinter Tournament 2 fast players ) - unfortunately at least half of the people signed up have exceeded the requested limit!
