Hmmm, it depends. Chess variants no bigger than 10x10 can be done very quickly :-)

I would like Brainking to have the Alekhine Chess (or click here) game. It's a very fun Chess variant and i would like to have it here.........

Fencer how would you rate the difficulty of adding a new game to the site...? Would this take you 5 minutes, 5 hours, 5 days, 5 months...??? I just want to see how difficult is to add a new game. And also can you give the probability of adding Alekhine Chess in the near future? I hope it's over 1% :-)

Just beside the "Message" box (the one you type a new message in) is a "Search in posts" box. You can type in any string you like to search all the posts for it. If you would like to search for a certain user, just type in their name. It'll return all of their posts plus any containing their name.

Edit: Ok, i just tried it and it doesn't find posts by that user, just posts with that user's name.

I agree MM. I'd like to filter boards by "postee" name too. It just needs an extra search function on the right.

I did mean that sometimes you need to find posts from a particular person if complaints have been made about them.
Fair enough, if they were made just before you come online OK, but when a moderator comes on and has 200+ messages to check i think it would be handy to have.

Subject: Team games
What if, instead of each member of a team play against each member of the other, the teams could play one game (or match of games), where the members of a team decide on what the next move would be? Working together like a team and not just a group of individuals working for each other the whole time.

When it was the turn of one of the teams, each team member would vote on the next move and the move with most votes would be the move for the team. Or the team members discuss the move between them and the team captain makes the move.

Another option could be for a particular player to play against a whole team for a bigger challenge. Just to see how good he/she really is.

I got the idea from www.letsplaychess.com from their "somebody vs rest of the world" matches and think could be something nice to implement here at BK.

Ooops I thought it read in the message box instead of on the board. **edited out annoying phrase**

rabbitoid
I don't think Fencer can do that. if a message says "you are a nutcase" how would he knw that the "you" refers to you?

he could, however, find out all the nutcases in the database...

30. November 2004, 13:54:35
Fencer
MMM: So why don't you just write "nutcase" to the search box?

30. November 2004, 13:52:12
MidnightMcMedic
I think he means like a certain phrase, where if someone calls you a nutcase, you can search to see who all called you that etc.

30. November 2004, 13:46:34
rabbitoid
would be nice, but I don't think many would know how to use it

What do you mean by "a certain piece of text"?

30. November 2004, 12:52:15

Walter,
That works great with just one page of messages, but if you have multiple pages, the search feature would really be nice.

Subject: Re: Mad Monkey
The second thing you ask for, "search in posts for a certain piece of text", is on my computer. It has nothing to do with BrainKing. It's part of the edit function. I'm using AOL and if I click the Edit button a window drops down and shows me at the bottom of a list of options; "Find in top window". If I click that, a little window appears and I can type in the text I'm searching for and then the find next button and search all the way through the top window. I'd be willing to bet that whatever operating system that you are using has this feature.

As for a particular person messages, I don't have that feature. I could use the edit feature I just told you about and put their handle as the text. Then it would find each message by them, plus any time someone else correctly typed that handle in one of their posts.

I think i mentioned this before you released BK 2.0 Fencer, but could we have an option to search for all posts by a particular person as well as just search in posts for a certain piece of text.

I feel that if someone sends you a filthy, dirty message and then puts you on enemies so you cant reply to them etc, the best way is to get Fencer to look into it.
