Why does the board say thats to big?

It seems to be too big for NTL only.

NTL only..? "N~O~T"... sorry Fencer, but I have a web-tv and I also have problems with the 5-in-line game as well (saying ..to big to be seen completely)

Fencer is it possible to change the noughts and crosses for differently coloured pieces? It gets more difficult to identify where the pieces are positioned once there is a large group of them.

AnfieldSouth: Sure, go to Settings / Five in Line page and change the pieces :-)

Actually, I agree, its not only NTL, I have a very old PC, screen size 640x480 and I cant get the full board, same with Tank Battle.

I am on webtv and have no problems whatsoever, i think they trouble may be that you are using a classic unit and they are notorious about having pages too big on a lot of sites. Thats why i got the plus and never had any trouble since. For me five in line is just right..

That's intersting. What is the difference between a classic unit and the plus? I would like to write a new FAQ issue about that but I cannot test it since I don't have WebTV, could you help me with that?

Subject: Re: game to big
The problem with the classic units is that they have a small cache, once you surf a little it fills up and the problem arises that you will get the message page too big to be shown in its entirety. As i said they are notorious about it and my old classic drove me nuts with it. The plus has more memory/cache and very rarely will the problem arise, i've had my plus for two years and i only got page too big once and that was only because i was on a site with a ton of graphics. I feel the pain of the classic users and its not your sites fault with the problem they are having, basically there is nothing that can be done.

I read somewhere a while ago about some columns becoming wider in this game. It does it to me occasionally when the page first loads, but when i click my move it fixes itself (at least it has everytime so far).

I failed to mention that getting the page too big does not happen all the time, it seems i read somewhere another factor that makes it happen is your connection rate. Ellieoop, you mean you never once got page too big on your classic? If not consider yourself very lucky. I just know thru my experience and what i have read in discussion boards of tons of people complaining of the page too big problem with classics.

plus upgrades....classic dont...this is one reason why all webbers should purchased a plus...
classic's are going to be obsolete....
since I got my last yr...I wouldnt consider anyone to stick with a classic...plus gives you more cache and they recieve upgrades . (yearly) . while classic' cant...and for the page too big I havent experience this since I went to web plus..

Subject: Re: i DIDNOT ask to play
KATHYR, two ways you can do that.. 1st, if you haven't played any or only a couple times, you can just DELETE it or ask your opponent to DELETE it fore you and just explain your reason.. 2nd, you can just let TIME run out for you to take your turn and it should DELETE itself.. (hope you don't have a lot of days put on it.. lol) If you have played more than a couple turns apiece on it, someone will lose the game instead of just being DELETED where no one wins or loses.. :-))

Have you ever installed the smaller boards for this game..? (five in line) I too have an old Classic WebTv and YES, with smaller boards, classic webbers shouldn't have any problem with playing this game and I really WOULD like to play.. Besides, I have never seen anyone fill up a board of that size.. People I've talked to say the same thing........... A~n~y~w~a~y.....
Have you or will you make smaller boards..? PLEASE!!!!

for regular go-moku (which this is essentially the same) i have never played on a board bigger than 13x13. They use that at IYT...i have played approximately 200 games of that and 2 of them have filled up, both agaginst the same person (lol). 15x15 would certainly be big enough though imo!

13x13 at IYT rarely fills and 15x15 pro version is even rarer...i've personally never seen it happen....so 15x15 would be a good size...20x20 is more of a "Go" size.

Fencer: The game is better when played on a 15x15 board than a 13x13.
About the tournaments: If I`ve understood it correctly, only 1 game is played against each of the other players in the section, and is random who gets to play as white and make the first move. I don`t know about other games but in 5-in-line that doesn`t work because the white has a really huge advantage. In fact, with optimal gameplay (on a 15x15 board or bigger) the one making the first move should win every time.
Of course none of us plays perfect all the time, but still the advantage is too big when 2 really good players are against each other. This problem would be solved if tournament games were 2-game matches, one of each color. Like at IYT.

I s there any chance of implementing a board using different coloured pieces for black and white? My eyes aren't the greatest and I find it very difficult to use this setup. The board and piece setup used by IYT is much less stressful for me. How do others feel about this?

Subject: Re: Colour of Pieces
I find the white stones for white and the black stones for black to be the best. When the pieces differ by colour and not by shape I find it much easier to grasp the position, especially when the games go beyond 20 moves and the board becomes increasingly crowded.

Bill, you can already make that change in your settings. No need to play with X and 0.

The board at IYT is much easier on the eyes...There you play on the lines, here you play in the square. The color is ok, It's how you play @ IYT the marbles look like marbles they stand out.. Here they look like black and white circles...
