You must wait till Monday, we plan to do quite complicated things with the database server during the weekend.

<Yes :-) But not forever. It's a simple sequence of dependencies: more time -> BK 2.0 -> more time -> BKR recalculation -> test -> compare -> release -> get stoned from disappointed users -> reincarnation -> DONE!

:-D

It's not impossible but since the BKR history is not stored, it would require a re-generation of all BKRs based on all finished games.
Advantage: BKRs would be correct at last [because due to database overhead, in some cases BKR was not recalculated after finishing a game].
Disadvantage: Some players could be disappointed that their real BKRs are lower than current values.

Fencer
Yes.

Random seeding was the first implementation, more than a year ago [it means that it would be very easy to add it again]. The default "sorted by BKR and similar average BKR in all sections" approach has been implemented on GothicInventor's request [very good idea, I must say, originally from Caissus] and is currently used for all tournaments. And it's not hard to plug in more algorithms.
So, it seems to be a new option on Define Tournament page, eh? :-)

Fencer
Yes.

Lythande: 4 is the least number of total players of a tournament.

10. February 2004, 07:34:51
Fencer
Lythande: It would not be impossible to do it in your way but what happens when less than 3 signed players make a group of similar BKRs? A section must be formed of 3 or more players. Should be such players moved to a section with higher average BKR or removed from the tournament at all?

plaintiger: There is no reason to be insulted because I don't respond to all your suggestions. I regularry write down all good suggestions to my TODO list and when BK is ready for more changes, most of them will be done. However, as I already told many times, the current top priority task is a refactoring of BrainKing application code. Everything else depends on it and nothing else can be done before this job is done. Stability and good performance is always more important than new features because it affects all users.

Subject: Re: Tournament Winner Notification
Whisperz: It will be implemented. Due to performance issues, all tournaments will be checked once a hour outside BrainKing application [maybe even from a different server]. As a part of the automatic tournament start script.
Lythande: Maybe I missed your point but what about to define a tournament with BKR boundaries? 1800-2000, for example.

9. February 2004, 10:22:56
Fencer
Moreover, such online changes are possible only after BK becomes my [and Liquid's] full-time job. A day doesn't have more than 24 hours.

9. February 2004, 10:21:54
Fencer
plaintiger: It is possible only for changes which don't require any change in the application code. For example, if you want to modify some text label or board description, etc.

9. February 2004, 09:49:09
Fencer
Yes. Tournaments page will be rearranged anyway.

8. February 2004, 16:43:03
Fencer
It will be automated :-)

8. February 2004, 15:32:48
Fencer
It will be.

Everything is written down.

Okay, let me say this:
1) Don't get me started again. I am not feeling well today.
2) This is Feature Requests board, not Complaints board.
3) When BK goes down during our night time, we are usually sleeping and can do nothing with it. When we have money for it, we'll be able to pay some people to monitor BK activity 24 hours a day and solve any problems immediately. But not now. We cannot afford it.

It would be much easier for me to code a program or compose a song :-)

I have plans for everything. There are just different priorities.

ughaibu: Thematic games and tournaments are in my TODO list.

MadMonkey: New board system will support one main moderator who can define any number of other moderators for the same board.

8. January 2004, 12:45:57
Fencer
harley, Steve: It will be turned on/off by the board moderator, not globally for all boards at once.

Subject: Re: Hide option
MadMonkey: I am going to remove the "hide" feature because the related problems will be solved much easier with "approve mode" for board moderators. When it's turned on, no new message will be visible for other users until it is approved by the moderator.

Please move this dicussion to Computers.

I wish that all problems would be that easy ;-)

27. December 2003, 23:23:18
Fencer
Uh-oh! You won't believe it ... but it is caused by a typo in a source code responsible for the "tournament winners" page :-D

27. December 2003, 23:15:19
Fencer
Wait a minute, let me check the source code ... ;-)

27. December 2003, 23:11:49

That's right. When you are logged in, you cannot create a new account.

26. December 2003, 18:08:01

ughaibu: That's a good idea.

Sure. Read the FAQ page.

Subject: Re: Drawn games and ratings
I've finished two games as draws yesterday, both of them affected my BKR. The formula is still the same, here.
But it is also related to the new database model, currently under development.

23. December 2003, 22:14:37
Fencer
Don't count on it :-) But when it's done, it's done.

21. December 2003, 22:41:44

Sorry, I clicked on "hide" instead of "ban".

What is planned is planned and no complaints from non-paying members can change it.

21. December 2003, 19:35:58
Fencer
BBW: Lots of your proposed features are already planned :-)

20. December 2003, 08:02:24
Fencer
Yes, all of this is planned. There is still an unused "Search" menu item :-)

Not yet.

Ah-ha! Something like on ICQ :-) No, I am afraid that web applications are not designed for it.

14. December 2003, 14:25:39
Fencer
I don't understand what you mean by "file transfer". How do you want to "transfer" them, upload to BrainKing and let someone else download them?

14. December 2003, 14:16:49
Fencer
What files would you want to transfer?

14. December 2003, 13:37:02

I'm not sure if a rollover unfolding to submenus would work for WebTV users.

14. December 2003, 11:21:21
Fencer
Caissus: How would you implement it? Adding new menuitems to the left column would make it too long and complicated.

14. December 2003, 08:45:50

Magenta Spiral: Good chance :-)

Magenta Spiral: When the new version of BrainKing is finished and launched.
Linda J: I've already got one. Unfortunatelly, I didn't have a chance to use it yet. I am overloaded.

Subject: Re: do you know the african game called mancala
Yes, I already have a half-finished game model for it :-) And Vetek provided excellent graphics. I plan to add it next year.

10. December 2003, 11:42:58
Fencer
Everything is considered :-)

3. December 2003, 12:58:50
Fencer
That's slightly different approach. I think that Chief KM wanted to outline some proposal.

3. December 2003, 12:51:06
Fencer
Somebody [Dmitri King, most likely] has already proposed to hide users who didn't finish a rated game within three months from the Ratings pages. It should force them to continue playing.
