MadMonkey: or corner lines of action would be good (6 pieces each in opposite corners )
or even a fast version of the game only 8 pieces each instead of 12 each (4 on each side of the board ) more people might play this one because it would be a quicker game . ps this one could also work for a fast scrambled version .

BIG BAD WOLF: I like the idea. Lines of Action & Scrambled Eggs are both great games and could have many good variations.

I was thinking of a variation, that would place a certain ammount of random holes on the board. In other words squares where neither you or your opponent could go. Obviously your gameplay would have to change for every game then, as every board would be different.

Sorry, no link to this game since it is something I've been thinking about for awhile.

Game: BrainEggs (or Scrambled Brains)

Board: Same as Scrambled Eggs (or Lines of Action)

Goal: To capture all your opponents pieces. (instead of just connecting all of your own) With it's unique way of moving pieces, I believe this would be an interesting game.

Subject: Re: Swap dice
alanback:  Another feature from DailyGammon which might be a bit more difficult to program, and which also reduces the need to swap dice, involves entering from the bar.   A player who must move his piece from the bar is not required to do this as his first move, as long as he does it during the current turn.  For example, I have a piece on the bar and the dice are 5-2.  I could enter with either the 5 or the 2, but I prefer to enter with the 2 and use the 5 elsewhere.  DG allows me to move the 5 first, after which the only permitted move will be to bring the piece on the bar in with the 2.  This does not effectively violate the rule requiring the piece to be entered from the bar before any other move is made, because the two moves are unrelated.

alanback: I completely agree with you. It would cut down on about 80 or 90 percent of the swap dice that we have to use.

On Dailygammon, as here, the server presumes that you intend to play the first (left-hand) die first.  However, if you click on a piece that cannot move the number of points shown on the first die (e.g. because the destination point is blocked), then it automatically moves the second die instead.  (Mechanically this is accomplished by inserting a link on the board for the second die when the first die is blocked, rather than inserting no link as is done here.)  This saves a lot of "swap dice" clicks.  Could that be implemented here?

pauloaguia: Yes, thats exactly what i mean. At the moment it looks like the game number corresponds to the number below it, where it doesnt. With the game numbers in the centre column and the Game score either side so they will still total up to the Match score at the top.

MadMonkey: Why not just keep the game links on a separate column. Something like

1909255 kid_game_2001 0:1 MadMonkey
1909256

(or games in a right column or something other)

1909256

In a recent thread in the BrainKing.com board, MadMonkey said "Maybe [the team match page layout] could be set out different".

I suggest using italics / normal font to distinguish between finished or ongoing games :)

Mousetrap:  Well, you have basically two options.  One is to insist the problem is on the server side and never get your icon uploaded.  Or, you can try to solve it on your side.  Try re-saving the file in one of the other accepted formats (e.g. gif) and uploading that file.  Or convert it to another kind of .jpg (e.g. by changing the level of compression, size, etc.) and make sure it is re-saved as a jpg before uploading.

Subject: Different BKR calculation formulas for different games
I'd like games such as backgammon and its variations which depend a lot on luck to use a different formula for the calculation of their related BKRs.  I know it has been asked already, but I thought I'd remention it.

Subject: Pawns
Fencer: Like lots of Rooks i have alot of games, i also try to play Pawns and new players. Would it be possible to have a option/tick box to move games against Pawns to the top of our Next to play list, they tend to get a bit lost in all the other games.
As a Pawn can only have 20 games max, it can get rather boring for them to wait for games against Knights, Rooks etc...to come back to them.
This can work for good, by trying to urge them to get a paid membership, or bad just totaly put them off all together. To me the more games they play or different types of games they can play or learn, the more chance there is of them buying a paid membership.

pauloaguia:  No, I see now it apparently can't be done.  I was working from memory (having no waiting games) so I couldn't check the screen before posting.  Looks like you can only change the default setting for one of the two boxes, the other by default will always be set for "next game".  I don't find it burdensome to pick a game off the drop-down list, but then I almost always just play them in the order they come up.

However, the left hand menu always includes a link to the Main Page, so I don't see the problem even now.

Subject: Default invitation settings
It would be useful to be able to save your favorite settings for game invitations.  For example, I usually invite people to play backgammon matches with the doubling cube, and a time limit of 3 days with standard vacations.  It would be nice to be able to make a string of invitations without having to change those settings.  Alternatively, the system could save the last settings used.

Subject: Time remaining when it becomes my turn
I would like to see a column on the main page for how much time I have left while it is my opponent's turn. This would be really helpful in a game timed with a Fischer clock or a game without vacations allowed.

I think just to the right of the "Time Left" column would be a good place for it. It could be headed with "Your Time Left" or something similar. For the standard move time limit, the column would just have the time per move in it. The colored dots would would still be there to help you know what's going on without having to visit each game to check. This would be really helpful for planning on leaving for the weekend or a business trip.

I'll have to agree, this is the wrong place to be discussing flaming, baiting and or moderating issues. I'm not sure if a pawn can hide another user on a public board ( I was only a pawn for the first day i was on bk)

Subject: "Block user" for discussion boards
Would it be possible to extend the "Block users" feature to the discussion boards? I was a victim of "flaming" by means of a person intentionally taking a post of mine out of context and deforming it's real intent. I felt as if I was treated with a great amount of disrespect by this person which I don't want to have to experience in the future if I was to discuss on YOUR boards. This IS a possible thing to achieve as it was done on another game site with "discussion boards".
Thanks for your consideration on this issue. because as was stated on the other site "there are all kinds of weirdos on the net....some of whom will join these sites with ulterior motives!"
