Subject: How S-B work
Modified by coan.net (14. June 2005, 06:59:14)
A question I get every once and awhile is how the S-B works in tournaments, and it is pretty simple once you know how it works - so I decided to just post a good expination here for everyone to read who might have questions.

First, I picked a tournament as an example: THIS TOURNAMENT

Now first, the points are figured. You get 1 point for each win. So:
  • (1)arpa - 3 wins, 3 points
  • (2)zockerdotcom - 3 wins, 3 points
  • (3)SMART ALX - 0 wins, 0 points
  • (4)Ladybird68 - 2 wins, 2 points
  • (5)Merrily Watkins - 2 wins, 2 points.

Now once all the games and points are figured, this is where the S-B is figured.

The S-B is the SUM of the points of your oppenets that you won against. So:

  • (1)arpa(3 points) - had win against player 3, 4, and 5. Player 3 had 0 points. Player 4 had 2 points. Player 5 had 2 points. So 0+2+2=4 [4 S-B]
  • (2)zockerdotcom(3 points) - wins agains 1,3,5. So 3+0+2=5 [5 S-B]
  • (3)SMART ALX(0 points) - [0 S-B]
  • (4)Ladybird68(2 points) - wins against 2,3. So 3+0=3 [3 S-B]
  • (5)Merrily Watkins(2 points) - wins against 3,4. So 0+2=2 [2 S-B]

So first the person with the most points win. In this example, both arpa & zockerdotcom have 3 points each. At this point we look at the S-B. zockerdotcom has 5 S-B, while arpa only has 4 S-B, so zockerdotcom gets the win for this tournament!

IMPORTANT NOTE: The winner of a tournament is the one with the most points. In some cases, the person with the highest S-B will not have the most points, so does not win. Only time S-B comes into play is if there is a tie in points.

    Hope this helps everyone!

First I had a few people ask me if I was going to make more of the "Fast Start - First 5 to sign up" tournaments like I've done in the past - well I've started them back up - And this time to make the games a little quicker, NO DAYS OFF has been added to the games - meaning no weekends and no vacations. 3 days should be 3 days!

Check out the Tournaments to see what is currently up. When I see one get filled with 5 players, I start that and make a new tournament.

    = = = = = = = = = = = = =

Second, since the last "dummies" tournament did very well - almost had enough players to start every game! Anyway, The #10 for dummies tournament is ready for sign ups.

ALL games for dummies (under 1500 & unrated) #10
  • For players rated 1500 or under
  • For unrated players
  • 5 days to move, standard days off
  • GREAT for someone learning a new game
  • GREAT for someone to play without being "killed" by experts
  • To start around July 10.

    Good Luck to all!

Subject: Tournaments with 9 or more players
The limit of teams per section is 8 in any tournament. I think it´d be interesting playing tournaments with 9 or more teams. For example, this tournament:

    http://brainking.com/en/TeamTournaments?tri=18&trnst=10

started in October 2004, now it´s still in the first round and probably it´ll finish in 2006. I think this tournament would had been more interesting with only one section with the nine teams because the first round was won clearly by Untouchables team and Blizzars team. I think a very long tournament as this, loses its interest because in the first round strong players play againts a weak opponnets and the decisive match will start 9-12 months later.

Would you prefer only one round in the next tournament "Châteauneuf du Pape"? Is it possible?

fungame: I wanted to create a tournament with 2 games, Froglet and Ant Froglet. Whatever I try, the result is always a tournament with ALL games. Some nasty bug there or can someone help?

The solution requires some Quantum Mechanics knowledge. First, matter and anti-matter will annihilate one another if present in equal mass equivalences, producing a fantastic release of energy (see E = MC squared).

When you combine "Froglet" with "Anti-froglet", the subsequent energy release creates what is known as an Einstein-Rosen bridge (also known as a wormhole.) Under the right conditions, this may spawn a "white hole" the opposite of the well known infinite gravity well ("black hole"). As a black hole destroys matter, a white hole releases matter (and energy) back into the universe.

So, your froglet/anti-froglet pair produced this extra mass, and they came out as additional games that you did not specify.

Moreover, since the participating in prize tournaments is free [no entry fees] and the prizes are fully covered by the creators, it's their right to specify the additional rules. They get nothing out of it.
