That was not the purpose of the intellectual property rights that most game manufactures apply for. Sure, we see Battleship as a great game that has had millions of sales, but what was the demand for this game before it was introduced?

The idea behind patents and copyrights is to protect the product through its initial stages of growth. Once it has become 'branded' because it is so popular, then the law is relaxed a bit.

The beauty of this approach is easy to appreciate. If I a product is successful, then it "gets so big" that once the patent expires, the main company will not be hurt by imitations and copies.

If the company was not successful, very few, if any, will follow in their footsteps.

Intellectual property rights are similar to "staking your claim" when you found gold in 1849. You register the area of land you are mining, pay some nomial fee per square foot, you demonstrate the chunk of land is not so big that you can't handle it, then you can mine at your leisure and not have to worry about someone removing ore from your site.

5 or 6 years ago, the musicians union in the US. tried to have laws changed so that bands would have to pay royalties for playing cover tunes at such places as bars, weddings, hotels,etc.. It failed.

I know prescription drug companies.. when they first come out with a drug.. such as Tylenol.. it was not allowed to be copied for like 20 years.. then after that time.. other drug manufacturers are allowed to create the generic.. Anyway.. back to my point.. I think that is how it is with most patents.. and BattleShip has been around for much longer than 20 years..

If it was that big of deal, don't U think Parker Brothers would have a laws suit againest every turn base site or yahoo and msn. For people not asking if it was ok to put Battle Ship on there site. And other games they make, for some reason I don't think they really want to get into it all and it also helps them sell more of their games in stores. Ok said peace. TYVM all

And if you set a BKR between 1800 to 2000 only these people having this, would see your games. Nobody else. It's not like i thought at first, that all people could see but only these with 1800-2000 would be able to play........

only someone who can accept the games can see them. You can't play against yourself, so you don't see them. log on as guest to see all games

One never sees one's own games.

ScarletRose: You wont see them in the waiting games room Scarlet. Inviters can only see thier new games on the bottom of the game page.

I created some games of Hyper Backgammon.. they show up at the bottom of my game page.. however, when I go look for them in the "Waiting Games" I don't see them anywhere on the list.. Did I not create the games correctly?

also, I might add, that she has no idea what the word public means. If you think that being in a public park allows you to strip off all your clothes and run naked through just because it's "public", then you clearly just don't get it. Public means, both for BK and for parks etc., that anyone is allowed in, so long as they follow PUBLIC RULES as well. It's such a simple concept. This is not the land of do-as-you-please, public or private. Every place on this planet has rules, so I guess according to you, there are no public places on Earth?

That's enough, I can be very patient but nobody will call my site like this. You are banned from all boards until you learn how to behave.

Oh dear. Some people just don't want to accept the simplest facts. Once again:

1) All non-fellowship boards are public.
2) Each board follows the general rules described in the User Agreement.
3) The main moderator of a board has a right to define additional rules for the board.
4) Who doesn't want to follow the rules, is logically banned.

That's how it works and that's how it will work because this is my site and I said so. Ridiculous notions about Civil Rights, Freedom and Democracy and similar things are pointless.

I disagree, they are open to the public making them public boards. But they still have rules to them, and by coming and playing on this site you agree to follow the rules of the site as per the user agreement.
