Universal Eyes: great...... but you have still not addressed the "Prize Pond" you advertised....... ??????? then changed.......?

SO.... basically, I wouldn't advise anyone to sign up, until the previous tournament is honoured......... and all things have been straightened out.

Universal Eyes: OK. You clearly cannot grasp what we are saying.

Here's a solution you may be able to understand.

Cancel the Hyper Backgammon Prize Pond you have created, and apologise to anyone who has signed up.

Change the Pond description (Again) back to a Prize Pond and tell Fencer that the Membership/Prize you were offering for the Hyper BG tournament is in fact to be used for the Pond game you originally advertised as a Prize Pond.

Does this make sense to you?

It does matter (IMO). People have signed up for a prize tournament.

Universal Eyes: the part where it was advertised as being a Prize Pond(as per post below), up until you changed it then it started.

I'm sure some of the players in it perhaps signed up with it being a Prize Pond mwho otherwise may not have signed up.

What part of this do you not understand?

Why can you not give prizes out for ponds? There is usually a winner?

Please can we have an explanation?

yes, one move so far. someone didnt post at all, so fell in, Rose posted 333 and fell in (even after a reminder message!!) - although she did apologise and she got what she deserved...

Will be intersting now, as most people have quite a lot less than 1000 points remaining.....

I've asked Fencer if we could have an option of a starting number of points when we create which would be useful to tailor it however you want without having to rely on everyone remembering to post 19,000+.

which one?

4. December 2004, 10:22:38
Bry
Stevie - but if you have a fellowship that could easily enter 2 teams of 5 for Backgammon - why not? rather than players either not playing or transferring to other fellowships (like what has happened this BG tournament). If they cant raise two teams - they enter one.

2. December 2004, 01:16:03
Bry
only Backgammon could command teams of 12 players in my opinion - and have a healthy number of teams competing.

23. November 2004, 22:36:40
Bry
I see your point BBW, it would just simply mean more players could play if we could enter 2 teams. I feel sorry for your 8 and my 4. They could go find another fellowship, but then you lose players from fellowships you have been running for a while. The other alternative is to say do 10 players and have a big tournament with many players and less teams....?

23. November 2004, 22:23:21
Bry
Fencer - I have 10 players in my BG team. 4 will be left out. That is why my suggestion of 2 teams would mean the bigger fellowships could probably scrape 2 teams of 5, and the smaller fellowships would still just be able to enter one team of 5. What does everyone else think?

23. November 2004, 20:56:55
Bry
Fencer - are we doing another Backgammon team tournament? Also - could it be possible to have 2 teams from one fellowship - i.e. an "A" team and a "B" team?

BBW - but a trial 2 month Knight membership will not "open" eyes to the real benefits to being a "Rook". What I am trying to say is that if someone gets chance to pay a little to try a 1 month, 2 month or 3 month Rook (without creating fellowships) - meaning they are able to play all tourneys and seeing all Discussion Boards, they are more likely to extend it for the 6 months Rook Filip wants, once they are "hooked". Those of us who have been here a while (and are Rooks and have extended membership or even taken Gold Rook) would agree that it is good value and the site/personal service is excellent.

But unless you are a Rook, and experienced the benefits.... you wouldnt know.....

A lot of people dont want to pay memberships on t'internet.... for 6 months minimum membership, whatever to small price (to some), but a taster of it may tempt them....

- I totally agree - hence I got a Rook pretty much straight away after first logon. What I am trying to suggest is targetting those people who are sceptic about paying for membership to games sites, or those who dont want to pay for such a time period of 6 months. You could even make it a month for a few Euro's.

My betting is once they get a load of games going, get into see Fellowships and the chat board, they will have faith in the site and renew for the 6 months at full price. I also said it should be a one off offer for pawns only.

bwild - my suggestion earlier was the 3 month Rook wouldnt be able to form a Fellowship - for your exact reason, but would just have the access to more games and more tournaments - tempting them to get into playing loads of games and multiple tournaments - hopefully encouraging them to renew at the end of 3 monts for a full 6 months package - then getting full Rook benefits.....

4. November 2004, 21:21:58
Bry
Hrqls - yes - but ideally it would be better if people were Rooks in my eyes. That would quell all the discussions re Knights in Fellowships and numbers of games allowed etc (see posts at the bottom of this page and just before...)

bwild - why?

Bry
ahh, right. Cheers Bumble. Bleedin good idea though!! lol

3. November 2004, 20:43:16

Dont know if this has been suggested before, but how about an "Introductory Level" 3 month Rook membership? (Available to a pawn upgrading for the first time only) with the benefits of a Rook - i.e. number of games/tournaments etc but without the creation of a Fellowship facility (incase they dont renew).

A smaller price (and time period) may tempt would-be pawns and once they get the benefits and see how good the site is, any subsequent renewal should be a minimum 6 months as usual....? It wouldnt cost the site any loss of revenue but potentially gives an affordable taster to those who dont want to commit to a full 6 months....

Well, Jason - my Bud - had to laugh at ur 1day/30 day Jibe at LongJohn - class.

Re: Time limits..... I play here everyday (other than when I am not at home) and have usually 250+ games on the go. I only choose to play long-timed games so there is no effect if I lose my service on AOL for a bit, or BK crashes. When BK1.0 crashed a few times last year, did loads of you lose games on Timeout???? and have to apply for them to be re-instated??? I didn't.....

If you ask other regular players who enter the tournaments (usually Rooks - so they have the capacity to play enough games without having to waiting for others to move), such as Arpa, Jason, Ms Delete, Hannelore, Vikings etc,,,,,, they regularily enter long timed games (such as the ones I create) and they are finished well within 3 years or so like others calculate. I have ran 30+ Five in a Line tourneys with the time limits as 21 days and if you look at the last one that is running, (where the winners are stated) there have been loads completed so far.

Anyway, what I am trying to say is that if you have enough games going, and you are not making moves on here for 8 hours + per day, you have enough moves to make before you log off without worrying about anyone on vacation or has not moved for a while.....

Comments welcome..... ;0)

BBW - I would love to enter your mini tourney's but dont want to commit myself to a short turn limit. I play every day, but like you, I have a lot of games and dont always get chance to move every game every few days. Is there any chance you would consider alonger period - such as minimum 14 days? Perhaps more people would join?

Fencer, Can you arrange something where as well as being able to start a tourney, we can adjust the settings within it, for example, - you can set the group stages so the top two players qualify from each group, meaning more of a chance for players who are unfortunate and are drawn with a top player in their group?. It would make it more interesting for the players in the group stages, even if they lose their first two games against the aforementioned opponent knowing they could still qualify.
Cheers,
Bry.
