Babygirlle: I'm not sure where you're seeing the two dates, the one you need to be concerned about is where it says "Last term to sign up" right below the minimum number of players. Thats the date your tourney will start.

When I have prize tourneys, I say if I win, I'll give the prize to the second place winner. Not that I've ever won one of my own tourneys

Jason, when you click on 'tournaments' theres a link at the top that says 'show tournaments created by me only' - is that what you're after?

I signed up for that too, with the understanding it was a prize pond.

Prizes for tournaments should be paid for (if the prize is a membership) BEFORE its created.
Any other prizes offered by members can't be guaranteed by BrainKing.

Subject: maharajah prize tournament
Luisifer is organising a prize tournament - the prize being a maharajah membership!

His idea is to get several members of the Czech community here to donate an amount of money each, which will pay for the prize.

I'd like to organise a similar tournament among UK/US players. Right now a 6 month maharajah membership is around £415, or $798.
A 12 month membership would be £692 or $1,331.

If anyone is interested in donating towards this tournament, please send me a message. This isn't to commit yourself, I just need to know the level of interest.
Ideally if we could get about 40 people interested in donating about £17 each, we could offer up a 12 month maharajah prize.
Or if 40 people could give £10 each, it could be a 6 month maharajah membership.

Send me a message if you would like to donate towards this tournament. No obligation right now, you can change your mind later - I just want to know the number of people who might be interested.

Peter Kay makes me homesick! I sometimes wonder how funny people think he is who don't live in Bolton though!

Oh, and HOME needs players for Berolina chess tourney! (see, I'm on topic!)

Jungle - 3
Cylinder chess - 3
Gothic chess - 2
Alquerque - 2

I've never said I have a great memory! Feature requests is just that. People suggest things, Fencer & Liquid add what they like. I don't remember many objections if this was mentioned at features? I could be wrong though so don't jump on me for that one! I think most people would be glad of this if they ever needed to fall back on auto-vation. As was said earlier, for the majority its a great addition. Of course there are always a few who will abuse it, as with anything. But overall, it will benefit most people.

22. October 2004, 20:15:05
harley
Yes, a chosen few wanted it. Fencer and Liquid. And last time I looked, they don't have to ask anyone before adding every small detail to their site!

22. October 2004, 20:12:26
harley
Because, Stevie, even people who want to abuse the auto-vaction can only do it 30 times! And then they lose all their vacation days, and they can't avoid timing out, and if they want to go away they won't be able to set any more days.

22. October 2004, 20:05:26
harley
Nobody is dictating to you. The rules have been set, you have to learn to live with them.

grenv, you seem to have a genuine problem with this. It seems you've already contacted the person who is holding your games up, I'm sorry but if they won't move any faster there isn't much you can do except try to avoid these people in the future.
Are you in the Quick players club? The people there generally move fast.

22. October 2004, 19:57:32
harley
Its really hurting you? I really find this hard to understand. I don't even look at games that isn't my turn. They'll move when they're ready, and I have plenty of games to keep me going until they do move. How can it hurt that they take their time moving?

22. October 2004, 19:46:03
harley
Exactly, so they will run out of vacatin days, and they are only hurting themselves really. if they use all their days as emergency auto-vacations, they won't have any left if they actually want to go away for a few days!

I think BBW's example was an extreme circumstance, but it gives the idea of the kind of thing that can happen. Life happens, you might be called away for a couple of days to help with an ill friend or relative. You might have computer problems. Anything may happen. I know of more than a few occasions where people have asked Fencer to add vacation days on somebody's behalf because they are unable to get to the PC. I have asked Fencer to this and I know I'm not the only one. As BBW says, ANY system is open for abuse, and all you can do is avoid these players.

You have a good point about the knights. A lot of the players in the running tourneys are knights.
I guess it isn't the last minute, but I like to have things done in plenty of time! And I think that if people are willing to play, why wait until the last second to sign up?! But people do..

18. September 2004, 23:58:59
harley
BBW, thats why its best to sign early. Most of the HOME teams have been signed up with at least a week to spare. But these latest ones, theres only 11 days left and not many coming forward to play.

18. September 2004, 23:57:11
harley
Well something is, and I don't think its the choice of games. Even reversi 8x8, usually a popular game - I'm finding it difficult to get players. And I don't think I'm the only one because only 3 teams have signed for that too.

18. September 2004, 23:51:53
harley
BBW, if everyone thought that way, there would never be any teams! :oD

Click on 'back to list of game types' then look next to the tournament name. There should be a clickable link saying (edit).

Pawns can only play in one tournament. Its knights that can play in one game type (tournament) at a time.

Anybody else want to play for HOME team? Drop me a line!

Can knights join in a team tournament if they are already in a 'normal' tournament of that game type?

LOL Steve!! BUT what?! BUT, he plays within the rules?! ;oD

23. July 2004, 00:56:40
harley
I know that, IMupChucKing! I'm just saying his speed of play is unimportant to me. I only commented at all because Steve started with "Kevin as captain...". Since I made him captain I felt obliged to reply!

23. July 2004, 00:47:18
harley
Sorry Stevie, I didn't see anywhere that said captains must play at least X amount of moves per day! Kevin is an excellent captain, he motivates people to play and is a very polite and kind person. Thats all that matters to me.

22. July 2004, 23:16:54
harley
If you're interested, Bry, just contact Kevin, the captain :oD

Apologies to those who signed for my anti-checkers tourney. I started it when 4 people had signed, as promised, but one person didn't have enough empty slots so it was deleted.

15. July 2004, 13:11:02
harley
Right! Thanks :o)

15. July 2004, 12:15:16
harley
Eek, it shouldn't say 4 players! It hasn't been THAT long since I ran a tourney, I'm sure!

How about if I make it 4 players per section? Would they only need 6 slots then? Now MM has joined I can do that. (Thanks MM)

harley
Modified by harley (15. July 2004, 11:51:33)
Oh, but how can it be 10 slots in all cases? I have 7 people signed - maximum section number is 8, so it would only create one section with all 7 players.

Each player would play 2 games with each other person, making 12 slots needed?

15. July 2004, 11:48:48
harley
Thanks :o)

15. July 2004, 11:29:09

Subject: Quick question....
In a tourney of switched colours, 8 players per section, how many slots would a person need to participate?

And what if I changed it to a maximum of 4 players per section?

And last one - if I change it to 4 players per section, does that mean I need at least 8 players?

14. July 2004, 08:52:33

(When I say I'll start it, I mean I'll reset the start date so the system starts it today!)

14. July 2004, 08:51:33

I've changed my maharajah tournament so it now offers a 6 month knight membership for the winner! I need ONE more person to sign up and I'll start it!
