Gammonator: my private 5 cents ... the whole idea of vacations is making problems ... you take vacations to rest, and if you are tired of playing your supposedly favorites games then do not come here ... I still cannot imagine having pleasure playing a game (making a move) once a week .... I proposed once and still believe in it: 30 days should be the absolute limit to play any game ... and look at these tournaments starting date past any common sense ... sorry, if you travel all your life and have no time to make even one move a week, than go and look for some other fun in your life ...

And as posted....she has not made a single move,,,yet she still has 34 days of vacation that should not be allowed. Some geeks should know how to run a business.

Gammonator: Thats my guess, sir.
I dont think I'll buy a membership here.
I messaged another board on this site and the following happened.
I was invited to dinner.
I declined.
The person that invited me sent me a nasty message.
My messages were removed from the board, even though the board is classified as "general chat".
Not a very nice welcome, in my opinion.

I love entering your trnys. Thanks so much for sharing. I would hate to leave all of those games though, it would be alot of work. She knew she wasnt going to play so she ruins it for the rest of us. To bad management and wonership do not care what the payees of this site really care about...GAMES. But tryth be told,,,alot of us are going to let are membership run out and just play games between ourselves for free, within the year about 50 of us will lose our membership and just play here. He doesnt need those few $1000.00 we pay him here anyway. He wont even miss us.

Gammonator: Angelstar doesn't have auto-vacation set, so her number of vacation days will not decrease. The upshot is, she'll time out earlier.

But a "mass-kick-out-of-all-the-tournaments-you-created" button would be really useful. She's signed up for hundreds of my tournaments. And since it takes 5 mouse actions and 4 page requests to kick her out of a single one, it's just too much work to remove her.

Maybe we need an "auto-withdraw-from-all-signed-up-tournaments-and-stairs" feature. If a person hasn't logged into the site for a month or 6 weeks (or some other period), (s)he'll be removed from any tournament (s)he has signed up for, and which hasn't started yet. And have retirement kick in for any signed up stairs.

There has to be something done with angelstar. She doesnt play here anymmore and SOMEHOW has 34 more days to go for her vacation days.THat is one problem,,she is not due for those days....she ran out already. Next,,,,she has entered every frigging trny there is and has no intention of moving. Which means 5 days per move and 34 vacation days,,,I am stuck for half a year in every game I have her in,,,in every trny that I and many others have entered and the ones yet to come. Surely there is some way of taking her out of the trnys before they start....right??? And what about those vacation days...Please check on this.

Thanks

Subject: Invitation to my chess variants blog ..

Hi Everybody ... I invite you to visit my chess variants blog ... instead of clogging our boards with my uncontrollable urge to create new, useless variants I decided to write about them in a separate place. These variants and games are all my own creations. They just pop-up in my head and I record them. Some may have some value, some probably not. Some may inspire, some won't ... Some are perfectly playable head to head, some require software to manage the board and pieces. I think that creating chess variants is the biggest pleasure I found in my gaming life. Bigger than actualy playing them ... No game is perfect and they constantly change. And I like to play and discover unknown territories. Unknown is what excites me the most. Have fun visiting my blog. Hope many variants will give you unending pleasure to explore this garden of imagination.

After finishing 25 rated games of one kind the provisional BKR changes to "established BKR" and is displayed by normal font (e.g. 1853). If you complete more games, your BKR is more accurate because is based on more results.

hagaren: To be counted as one of those 25 games, a game has to be rated. That means it must last at least 2 moves (not 10). If you play a game that only lasts 1 move, it is still counted under 'My profile'-> 'finished games', so unless you keep your own score of those unrated games, you won't know for sure when you'll reach 25.

36 new members so far today....over half havent logged in,most will never play a game, some go straight to the poker tables.
watch the player list just a couple times a week.
theres no doubt in my mind that the majority of these new members are add ons to existing accts.
since pawns are only allowed 20 games...I can see this as a way to give someone more games,but......theres always those that create these add on accts for ulterior motives, that many of us that have been here awhile know.
then you have these globs that dont care or even read the stuff they're prompted into moderating,to compound issues.
just my 2 cents.

wetware: "Dice games require less thinking?"

you are right for some dice games. most dice games have limited move options though, far less options than chess .. its also tougher to think ahead and build a plan with dice games .. at least thats beyond my capabilities .. i can 'feel' a few moves ahead with a probability that it might happen with dice games, but with a chess type (or pente or espionage) i can plan a bit more ahead which takes time

so dice games dont require less thinking .. but they certainly require less time per move (for me)

"Being beaten in a dice game, well it was simply that the die favoured the other player! i.e. luck."
"Beaten in a game of skill, however, then the loser can only critique themselves."

Those observations are a good start.

Being beaten in a dice game, one can all too easily conclude that the loss was purely a matter of bad luck, and that there was nothing in one's own play that deserved criticism.
Not all dice games are created equal.
Have you ever noticed that the frequency of claims of "unfair dice" tends to be inversely proportional to players' strength?

"Dice games require less thinking?"
Who would say such a thing?  On the contrary (at least in some dice games), in addition to strategic considerations, one must also calculate various probabilities.
