MadMonkey: i think there was a message about it some time ago .. i think it was me who asked for the change then :)

in real life teams are also rated by their perfomance and not by their current players .. i think it would be logical for brainking to have a similar system .. this way there can be team rankings as well (and not just ratings) .. so we can have a list of teams and how they are doing compared to each other .. in the past there was only a list of signed in teams in team tournaments .. now there is a list which can always be viewed and which is indepenend of the players in the team

but i am not sure yet if its implemented that way .. as i said i didnt check it yet :)

i think the team bkr works the same as a personal bkr .. tme team itself plays matches against other teams and from that gets its bkr points .. just like you would get bkr points from playing matches with other players

i never checked this though :)

Jim Dandy: what i am doing is posting links which fencer posted in his blog .. but which some people might not have noticed because not everyone reads his blog

this last link points to a certain adware which some players have on their computer .. this could be deduced from the statistics from this site (it showed the name of the adware in their user agent) .. read the article at the link or fencers blog at brainking.info for more information about it

i dont know what caused the drop in speed for those people (somehow the speed didnt drop for me) so i dont know if any solution might be a long term solution

at the very least its something that can be tried and by trying you can find out if its a longterm solution or none at all

when you are having speed problems please check Fencers last blog entry

it tells you about FunWebProducts which might have an influence on your speed

to check if you have that piece of adware enter the following line in your address bar of your browser :

javascript:alert(navigator.userAgent)

a popup will appear, if it contains the word FunWebProducts then you should look at the page of the bottom of this message for more information

Rose: i certainly can image your frustration
i also know some people who have a slow connection with brainking are on fast computers and high speed providers

so it isnt their computer

i also know some people who dont have problems .. so it doesnt seem to be the brainking server

it must be somewhere in between ... the point is though .. we dont know where .. if we would know some common characteristics of the people who have a slow connection to brainking and another set of common characteristics of people who dont have problems .. then we might be able to sort it out

my knowledge of the routing tables is too little to know if everyone from the usa follows the same route towards brainking (some people from the usa have problems, others dont)

i hope we can sometime find the problem .. but i am not sure wether fencer can do something about it other than relocate or use another line

maybe someone can setup a poll somewhere (i think you can do it at yahoo or maybe even at facebook?) to ask people wether bk is fast or not for them and wether they use external stylesheets or a standard one or the no fonts

btw yesterday bk slowed down a bit at the end of the evening, but not 'slow' yet ... just 'not fast' .. hotmail and hyves were slow though .. slower than bk .. so i guess it was my connection at that time :)

if you have an idea to solve things its always best to send a message directly to the person who can do something about it .. if you want a discussion about it (which has been going on for quite some time now and getting stalled) then you use a public board

(i remember 1 post about an expensive line, but that was about direct lines from the brainking server to each user :))

i know some people who dont have connection problems, and some who do .. if thats the case then it cant be the brainking server

Andersp: i wonder why you used to many white lines in your message

i agree that fencer is not always that diplomatic in his answers, i hope you wont apply that same characteristic on me though

the problem with the connection speed, is that not everyone has the same problem .... i am from the netherlands and dont have that much problems with the speed, redfrog is from the usa and doesnt have any problems, fencer says he doesnt have any problems .. the only difference between the users who do have problems and those who dont have must be the route by which the connection goes ... that route is something in which fencer doesnt have any influence and which he cant 'fix'

this has been said more than once, it even appeared as a blog on brainking.info ... it would be nice if that topic would come to an end .. or if there is some miraculous solution if someone would post it somewhere (probably the computer board as it might be quite technical)

some people do like the extra features, thats why he adds them (but the ones who do like them are silent while the ones who dont like it are quite loud)

the only rule for this board is to be on topic (and to be nice and have some netiquette)

(edited because i forgot a word 'not' :))

Subject: Re:
Andersp: i dont know which post by redfrog you mean, if he posted on how many points in a game he scored then it was definetly off topic and should not have been posted here

this board is about brainking and its future .. so not only its future (but i think you didnt mean only its future)

my agreement with jasons emoticon was because discussing the oneliners just multiply the oneliners into many posts making it multiple-post-one-liners

your post itself wasnt offtopic though, i should have clarified that, sorry

i hope i am not using double standards, if you think i do please send me a pm
once in a while there was a user (i dont think he is fluent in english) posted the standings in a tournament, he did this about once a month .. it was off topic, but as it always remained to be 1 post and didnt lead to a real off topic discussion i led that one go by .. some weeks ago he posted 2 posts about a tournament though and i directed him to the tournament board.
thats where i try to draw a line .. when a (series of) post(s) is about to clutter the board and hiding the on topic posts into off topic ones .. then its time to do something .. an occasional off topic (single) post might slip through though as its often more confusing to remove/redirect the off topic one that to let that single 1 remain

if you want to discuss the modding or have tips/ideas please dont hesitate to send me a pm .. i am always eager to learn (but also might have my own opinion ;))

Subject: Re:
Andersp: i agree with both your points at most times

the thing to do about the oneliners destructing a discussion is to ignore them or let a mod take care of them (and if no mod does take care then send a pm to the mod of the board) .. at least dont react to it and multiply the onelines into many-posts

the emoticon from jason was appropriate though .. he could also have stated his post in a several lines, but this 1 emoticon serves a better purpose by keeping the board on its intention

i always let automatic vacation take care of the first few days of my absence (as my opponent might not have moved .. and that way i save some vacation days :))

Subject: Re: Xmas Holidays
MadMonkey: you could set your weekend to tuesday and wednesday .. that way christmas andthe 1st of january would be covered

personally i think 35 vacation days per year are more than enough .. i even am not in favor of people buying extra vacation days .. although its a good income for brainking it also favors the rich people which unbalances the world enough already :)

it would be a good habit to set christmas as a vacation day at the start of the year already

maybe its a good idea to turn of automatic vacation days .. that way you wont use a whole vacation day to prevent 1 single game from timing out and you might have more days spare at the end of the year which can be used to prevent more games from timing out

as everyone said we had 30 vacation days per year, then christmas became an ordinary day and we got 5 extra vacation days per year .. so in fact we got 3 more days per year (i think)

if we go with fixed holidays again then i want 1 for my birthday as well and for queensday .. as i cant play on those days either :)

Andersp: the amount of snoopy's games is a left over from going for the top spot in 'moves per day'

its an insane race ... and this is the left over .. the number of finished games is just a side effect .. its an awkward list at all as someone who is here longer will have more games finished (on average)

i might feel sorry for the opponents though as they might want to play a nice game and now have a win by timeout

66% is a great target .. mine as well .. was there .. not anymore though i think

my 2 important lists from the statistics are win/loss ratio (66.6666% is the goal :)) and average bkr (2000 was the goal, now it is 1900 for more games :))

Subject: Re: random game teams
some people (including me) asked for random teams as it seemed a nice addition to the team of single game types .. this would make it possible to create team tournaments in which the teams would play random games .. fun! ;)

it was suggested this to fencer only a few weeks ago .. so i was positively amazed that it was in the progress of being implemented already .. its great when a site owner listens to suggestions from its members and implements some of them
(some of my suggestions havent been implemented, its up to fencer to decide what would be a nice addition :))

madmonkey found the random teams by accident and shared it on this board .. which is a nice thing to do .. that way the random team isnt only accessable for a few members, but every fellowship can create his random team
(go to a team of your fellowship and in the url change the number of the team to 255 .. you can see which number when you compare the urls of 2 teams of the same fellowships) .. i joined a random team as well .. after i read madmonkeys post (in which he explained how to do it)

the random teams are still in the progress of being created though and isnt completely active yet .. thats why fencer probably didnt announce it in public yet

any member is free to explore the site .. and it would be nice if (s)he finds anything (s)he would post it on a board (if its a bug it would be best to post it in the bug tracker) if its something which can be abues dont post it on a public board though but send in a pm .. if its something nice (like this random teams .. which gives a little insight in the future :)) .. post it here (or somewhere else)

i think its great that this site is still developing and new things are being added

if you cant connect to the site via the brainking.com or similar urls but you can connect to the site via the ip adres 89.187.130.22 then its a problem with your ISP which hasnt been updated

the site is working for me (except sunday 28 october) when the harddisk failed. at that time everyone had problems connecting to the site so it was clear that it was a problem with the site

if worded as if to mention it to him, you might get a response, if worded with an attack/insult/.. in the post as well .. then its likely to be ignored or sarcastically answered

i think its always best to post a building non-destructive message, that way there will be a faster response and better response as well

usually the site can be accessed perfectly by me, but not this weekend (i was away for 4 days, came back on sunday, and the connection to the site was a mess) .. this was caused by a failing harddisk though which shouldnt happen too often :)

i would love a random game rating/ranking as well .. but only for those random games where all games from this site are possible .. not just a subset

this rating could be established by team tournaments of random game types (we need a random team for that :)), by normal random tournaments (which we already have), and by personal matches (of more than 1 game, about 10?) of random games

it would rock! :)
