Subject: Message area
Fencer, Can you add the wrap text to the message part on the games. Sometimes when you get carried away and go over, instead of wrapping, it makes the rest of the game all unaligned and messed up. Just a thought :)

Oxe: Yes, I plan to add it.
sundance: I don't want to change the current Five in Line rules but I will add some variants, etc.

Fencer: When making that pro version of 5-in-line could you make it such that overline (more than 5 in a row) doesn`t win?
I think many players would like it better if the rules here were not different from the rules of Pro go-moku.

Subject: PGN downloads
Hi all,
I really like this site, there is only one feature I really miss. As a passionate chess player I like to store my finished games on my PC. It should be not too difficult to provide a move list of a finished chess game in PGN notation. On other sites like IYT or playchess.de this feature exists. Is it possible to incorporate it here, too?

How about if a player has the option of passing, or "auto-passing". The latter would allow the opponent to keep playing.

Subject: Auto move
Well to resolve the issue of the board looking completly different after a long "auto-pass", it could just queue up the boards for the other player so he can just go through all the auto-passes also.

But that does not solve the "send message" issue! :-)

macoan: This has been brought up a few times (including me). I asked Fencer, and he did not like the idea. He said that then, if a player has to pass several moves in a row (like in reversi, or backgammon), the board might come back to them completely different then when they last saw it. He also likes players to be able to send messages with all moves, including passes. Hope that helps :-)

Subject: Battleboats idea
I read how you are going to bring Battleboats here (YEA!) About a year ago, I brough up an idea of another version of Battleboats that I suggested to IYT, but it never did get far there.

So I thought I would post it here - maybe while you are programming, and it sounds interesting - you might do it! (Which having different games then the other main turn-based sites would be a big plus for this site.)

Anyway, my version is played with 3-4 players. All the players would play on the same big board! Each player would have one "4" boat, two "3" boats, and two "2" boats. (or less depending on how big of a board is used)

The computer would have to "randomly" place all the boats since if players did it, it might end up overlapping (since it is on the same big board)

But then like regular battleboats, each player will get a shot. You can sink either of the other players boats. So for example, player 1 shot hits player 3 boat. Player 2 sees this shot, and also hits and sinks player 3 boat.

Anyway, that is the basic idea for my Super-Doper Battleboat game! :-)

Subject: Auto pass
Sorry if this was brought up before.

How about making it so when you have no moves, it will automaticly pass for you. (and just send it right back to the other player to make his next move).

(I'm thinking of Backgammon, but probable can be used in other games also.)

Subject: Re: Renju?
I very much agree with the suggestion.
Renju is a great game.
I would also like to see the Checker boards changed to look like real Checkers, with Checker pieces instead of Chess pieces.
And in the case of Straight checkers (English draughts), the darker pieces should move first.
Imagine how Chess players would react if White had to move second.
It's disorienting.

I have never seen a site grow as fast as this site has.. this is fantastic..
"Hey Fencer", could you by any chance give us an idea how far into the future before you start working on implementing Sabotage (and it's variants) to the site.. (being patient, but waiting very anxiously) passed week i've had several "females" ask to be invited to a Sabotage game on IYT.. I'd really like to see it "here" soon.. :-))

Subject: Renju?
In addition to the pro version of 5-in-line that I requested earlier, a game I`d very much like to see here is Renju. IYT doesn`t have that game either and I think it would attract many top players here to play it and 5-in-line also...and top players always draw along many times more other players who want to play against them and learn the game.

Subject: Tournaments for Brain Pawn
Current for free Brain Pawn account, you are allowed to enter only 1 tournament at a time (Which is good for a free account)

My suggestion is to allow a Brain Pawn to enter their next tournament once they have completed all their own games in the section (and there is no chance of going to next round.)

For example, I complete all my games in a tournament, and I'm now waiting for 1 game to finish in my section until I can enter the next tournament - which could be a week or more!

I'll probable upgrade my membership in the next few weeks so hopefully this will not be a big problem for me, but I can see how it would be helpful for other people.

Whats it matter?, as long as both players agree to the draw. The same arguement can be said for any game.

Subject: Fellowships
You know at the bottom of our page where we have which fellowships we are in? Is it possible to have next to each fellowship which teams we are in for each one?

Like

(fellowship) halma, backgammon, checkers
(fellowship) chess, tablut, nackgammon

Just so we can keep track of which teams we are in for each fellowship, without having to write it down or visit the pages to find out?

Subject: Re: draws in backgammon
I know the perfect solution. IYT has an option in a regular game for a player to request a longer timeout period, ie from 3 days to 30 this gives you the opportunity to finish those delayed matches, without having to ask for a draw.
However I think a tournament should never have the opportunity of a draw in backgammon as it is not in the rules, thus the option should not be there :-)

15. February 2003, 11:45:23
harley
Dream, thats what I meant, even though in a normal game its not possible to have a draw, there may be certain circumstances where both players may want to agree to a draw. If one player disagrees then the other player would have to either time out or finish the game.
Its a bit like playing a game at home, then visitors arrive.. so the board is put away and a draw agreed upon!!
Its not like one player announces a draw and thats the end of the game, you get the choice of accepting or rejecting the draw. :o)

15. February 2003, 11:39:19
Fencer
dream: And what if both players don't want to finish a game because of a lack of time? Instead of one of them timing out, they can agree with a draw which is a better choice for both of them.

Subject: Re:
My argument Fencer is it is impossible to have a draw in the official rules for backgammon, and for the site to have any credibility in the future for backgammon players then it should not offer one. I have also struck big problems in the past with draws in tournaments at another site. So just trying to perhaps make things better (and avoid the conflicts) :-)

eddie: But such a box could help players to find a winning move, eh? ;-) I'm not sure if it would be popular.
dream: It is a risky proposal. In general, you can negotiate a draw in any game, if both players agree with it. I think it causes no harm if I leave the draw offer for all games :-)

Dream, the option is a valid one because it may be that half way through a game one player has personal issues and cannot carry on with the game, but the scores are level, so a draw is decided upon.
There are all kinds of reasons a draw may be a good idea in backgammon.

On the subject of the draw option (lol...well loosely on the subject)...Fencer it is impossible to have a draw in the game of backgammon, and there shouldn't really be an option there, can you remove it sometime? Please? :-)

maybe its a good one..you know how you have a little box to check inside the games if ya wanna offer a draw with this move??..how about a little box to offer a new game with this move if its the last move in a game..it would have to be abother game excatly how ya just played..so if i knew i was gonna win or lose with the next move..the box shows up and we can click it for another game of same thing...what ya think?

Unless i am missing something, why not fix it when you complete a normal game with someone have it where you can invite them to another game easily? I find it a little bothersome to have to click on the persons profile and bring up another game invite. It would save time and effort to have it set up a new game option right after the first is done. You know something like IYT has it fixed. Or is there something i am missing? On the Games Rules pages, would it be possible to add a 'start a new game of this type' on each page? After reading the rules of a game its annoying having to go to New Game and go through all that.
With the checkers games and those with a number of variants I haven't played much, I like to check the rules before starting a game! A link would make it easier!
