SC GOP rejects Laurens Republicans purity pledge

LAURENS, S.C. (AP) The South Carolina Republican Party is rejecting a proposal by the Laurens County GOP to require candidates to sign a pledge on conservative values.

The pledge would require candidates to promise they have not had premarital sex, will be faithful to their spouses and will not watch pornography.

The pledge endorsed by Laurens County Republicans last month also requires candidates to protect gun rights, oppose abortion under any circumstances, endorse balanced budgets and oppose same-sex marriage.

State Republican Party executive director Matt Moore says it would be illegal for the Laurens County party to deny ballot access to candidates who refuse to sign the pledge.

Laurens GOP Chairman Bobby Smith says the party will not do that, but hopes the pledge will encourage good values by Republican candidates.

I don't recall anyone suggesting THAT.

I'm sure everyone (except possibly the oil companies) would prefer that SOME day we ARE at that point. But we aren't yet.
There has to be a reasonable way to reach that point. But stopping using fossil fuels all at once certainly won't get us there either.

And yes, most stuff out of that book is quoted out of context. It makes my point in a weird way, that anything in that book can be used for whatever someone wants it to be used for.

I personally couldn't care less if it's Christian or not Christian to own a gun. It's a constitutional right, and I stand behind it. I have TON more respect for THAT document, than the Bible.

(V): Totally against the teaching of Jesus?

Personally, I do not subscribe to any organized religion, and see the Bible as nothing more than a book.

I looked around and found a few cases that seem to contradict your "Totally" comment. But again, one of the main faults of the "Bible" is that anyone can search for any quote that seems to support whatever thing they want to proclaim as the word of "God".

How about Luke 23:36?

And he [Jesus] said to them [His disciples], ‘But now, whoever has a money belt is to take it along, likewise also a bag, and whoever has no sword is to sell his coat and buy one. For I tell you that this which is written must be fulfilled in Me, ‘And he was numbered with transgressors’; for that which refers to Me has its fulfillment.’ They said, ‘Lord, look, here are two swords.’ And He said to them, ‘It is enough.

That doesn't sound "Totally" to me.

I also read something about him creating a whip and whipping people. Of course you'll have to pardon my lack of the exact quote. Sure, it may have been "figurative", but it cracks me up that people pick and choose what parts are "figurative" and which parts are "literal"

Personally, it's all Hooey.

Tuesday: "her" is not an insult. Unless you are just LOOKING for things to insult you. Typical of "politcally correct" libs who are offended over everything that can possibly be misconstrued as offensive.

And MY point was, you would NEVER have pointed that out about Obama 3 years ago. When "your" people do something, it's hunky dorry. When "the other ones" do the same thing, it's gotta be put out there as NOT ok.

When in reality, (as I've already said twice, I believe) I would imagine any person who currently holds office (of WHATEVER party), who is campaigning, probably misses more votes than they should. And as I also said, I don't defend that. They are ALL doing their constituents a disservice when this happens.

Deal with it.

That does NOT take into consideration all votes since elected. Been more than that.
