No, we don't need to, just if we want to. Like we get the option to send a message with a request to join a fellowship. We don't have to, but its nice to have the option.

but do we need to explain really?

Now big bosses receive a message when we leave a fellowship, could we have a small text box to send a message as we leave? It would be nice to be able to send a small explanation about why we left.

Outline battle boats is fun and also a very fun time... Trying to out line the boats instead of hitting them... 5 chances only for hits... This variation is hits in my house...

How about a graphic arts, sculpture, drawings, etcetera board? Further to that, how about a dissatisfaction board, on which we can say "food for free", "air travel, get a grip on proportion" and other human issues that fall outside the gangsterism of politics.

Subject: New game idea.
Modified by x7x7x7x7x7 (13. October 2004, 17:43:48)
Here is an idea that I came up with in a flash last night. It's a tournement format for backgammon, called "Duplicate Backgammon". It is similar in concept to Duplicate Bridge, where all teams play the same cards.

It would work like a double RR, but each game has the same rolls, but with each player playing different colors, hence, the rolls are "opposite". This would add much more skill to the game, as a player must play both sides of a rollout simultaneously.

Of course, some precautions would have to be taken to prevent a player from "looking ahead" in the rollout, but hiding the next roll until both games have moved should be relatively simple to program.

About the running games; brilliant, thanks. What do you make of this game: 116566 no move for a year but not timed out, 20 day/move time limit. Am I eating the wrong mushrooms?

Great idea IMupChucKing! I second that!.
(the checkbox next to each game in waiting room..)

13. October 2004, 00:43:30
Czuch
I think a good idea would be to have a check box beside each waiting game, so we could go through all the waiting games and check the ones we wanted to accept, and then be prompted to accept each one of them... This would eliminate the hasstle of going back through all the games each time we have accepted one, and starting all over again.

I would like to be able to filter them by time per move...

I had in mind something similar to the first thing you see when creating a new game. But a filter can work too, good idea.

Or since there does seem to always be a lot of games in the waiting room, maybe a filter to just show a certain game type - or even a group of game types. "Just show Chess Games" - to show all chess & variants. Etc... etc...

Right now Waiting games are displayed alphabetically in groups of fifty per page, correct me if I'm wrong. I think it's more logical to show them grouped by game type, rather than just in alphabetical order.

Does the automatic vacations work for all users? (Pawns, knights, Rooks, etc..) who have vacation days left, or is it just for Knights and above?

Plus I know there was talk at one time to limit the amount of automatic vacations to only a certain amount of days at one time. Was that put into place, or let say if I'm unable to log on, will up to 30 days of vacation be put onto my games.

Thanks!

heh .. wow i couldnt imagine how many reactions some simple posts of a simple pawn could 'inspire' :)

i didnt mean to demand those 'changes' .. it was more like some features which other people might think useful as well .. maybe something to put on a future 'todo' list

i am just on this site for about 2 weeks .. trying things out .. to see if i like it .. which i do a lot .. otherwise i wouldnt even think of trying out the discussion boards and post something in the 'features' section (which is open for pawns to post in :))

its free to anyone to respond with any opinions about the points i brought up :)

i might become a paying member ... right now i am in a bg tournament of which the first prize is get a 1 year paid membership :) .. so far i won 2 games .. lost 0 .. but i am about to lose at least now :)

thanks for reading my posts ... will check back soon for more sponses :)

Knights and above also have things like a Notepad, and the hide feature in the discussion boards. Those are 2 that I can think of off the top of my head.

Is a list of advantages all the extras that we get and the pawns cant see or use . then that might encourage a few extra pawns to buy membership . this could be on the log in page or a link to the left of here ... maybe there is one already but i havent noticed one .

... but if there issues or problems which are keeping a pawn from paying, why expect that person to pay up just to be listen to. If a pawn has a good idea about improving the site, and Fencer thinks it is a good improvment - then great for everyone! And at that point it could even be enough to get the pawn to pay up. So I think we should encourage all suggestions from everyone.

Not to mention how much more enjoyable the site is when you are paying member. Being a paying member opens up more fun in my opinion. If someone enjoys the site as a pawn that is fine. However there is much more to enjoy from fellowships to more tournaments and more games that you can play. I would just simply encourage any pawn who loves playing here and wants to get more enjoyment out of it to at least try a 6 month brain knight membership. Not to mention the money can go toward improvements for the website.

I do not feel that I was trying to goad anyone into doing anything. I was a non-paying member for a long time. However I was also unemployed for a quite a while too. However I didnt try to influence change here until I became a paying member of the site. The bottom line is without funds th site cannot continue to grow. I have no problem with someone being a brain pawn at all. However if someone wants to bring change for the better, it makes sense to contribute to the change.

8. October 2004, 19:36:52

Perhaps some pawns get enough value out of being pawns too. I dont think trying to goad ppl in to buying memberships is the way to go at all.

Yes we were all non-paying members at one time. However my point is simply if you wish to influence change and help make it happen, buying a membership can help that effort. Yes I have thought of being a brain rook as well. However when I look at my situation and how much time I can actually spend a day on here playing games, I realize that I would not get the full value of paying for a rook membership which is why I am a knight instead.

Ever wonder what it would be like to be a "brain rook" Brian? ;-)
maybe we can even find a can of that "gold" spraypaint! LOL:)

Yes you do ask a lot of questions for a non-paying member. LOL. If you truly want to get Fencer's attention buy a membership. Money helps make improvements happen more rapidly. You seem to enjoy the site and wish to make it better so why not make a monetary contribution today?

Subject: Re: new messages shown on discussionboard
what i mean about the link to the rules in the pages of the discussion board is that it would be nice to see the same link inside the discussion boards. like when i am reading a message in a discussion board which makes me wonder about the rules about that (variation of that) game .. i can go directly to that link instead of having to go through 2 other pages first

to explain the show of new messages per discussion board : right now several discussion boards are grouped in a collection (for example all variations of chess) ... now i have to open the group first to see if there are any messages at all .. i cant see if from the main screen in which i see the groups .. right i am using the link to expand all groups .. giving me 1 large screen with a lot of boards which show me the nice red number .. but it would be nice to have the groups non-expanded and show the total of the unread messages in the boards inside the group.

i might be asking for too much though :)

there is a link on each game(as you play it) for the respective discussion board. It is followed by a red number, indicating the number of new messages.

is it possible to sort the game list ?

as there are more and more games the list is now getting quite long and sometimes hard to find a specific game type/variation
(of course i can use the 'find' option of my browser, but a ordered list would be nicer :))

maybe its possible to group the list into several groups which can then be opened into the sub types like the discussion boards :)

(thats what you get from a newbie on this site ... btw a newbie who thinks its a great site :))
