I know what I would do, but it wouldn't help much if Vikings saw it.

Let's just say you want to bid at least 5663, but you probably want to go for the bonus.

(As if I'm one to be giving advice to the #1 player )

Simple - Bid either between 1-478 point more then Vikings bid

or

bid 524 points less then Vikings. (While still bidding above tonyh)

Simple!

How may the rest of us bet against someone with hidden bonuses?

When I click on the red number next to the 'Main page' link it takes me to the oldest pond, but I have my games sorted by the time to deadline. Shouldn't the numbered link take me to the game with the least remaining time (I.e. the one at the top of my list according to how I have it sorted)?

are ponds calculated into the win/loss ratio in the statistics as well ?

is the pond bkr also calculated into the average bkr ?

2. May 2005, 08:55:28
Fencer
Subject: Re: Re:
Hrqls: You cannot count it as "win" or "loss". The formula has some input parameters - your current BKR, average BKR of all opponents, current BKR of each opponent, number of "wins" [players with lower final order], number of "draws" [players on the same level as you], number of "losses" [players with higher final order]. It takes all of this, makes some creepy things with them and spits out the result as your new BKR :-)

Subject: Re: Re:
Fencer: for example in a game with 16 players ...

i am ok in the first round : 1 win of me against the one who fell in using both our bkrs to calculate our new bkr once the pond is finished

i fell in the second round : 1 loss against all who remains in ? does that mean it counts as 1 game lost to someone who would have the same bkr as the average bkr of everyone still int ? or does it mean 14 losses to each remaining player indivually ?

I'm guessing that the BKR changes once the tournament is complete. Going to be a big hit for some in the "first run" pond. Luckly, I'm still going.

Subject: Re: search the annomaly
Czuch Chuckers: don't worry about it. the BKR formula is probably still far from convergence, if it ever does. you're bound to bounce up again.

1. May 2005, 17:17:29
Fencer
Not exactly. The formula is more complex in this case but the basic idea is the same.

1. May 2005, 17:14:27
Czuch
So, lets see if I have this bkr thing correct.... If I drop outin the first round, is the same as if I lost to everyone else in that pond, and that everyone else jus beat me, and our bkr will be calculated against every player in the game this way each round that goes by, using the same "chess rating formula" that all the other games use?

Fencer: Thanks for that clarification :)
I said that (or something similar) on the other pond board about a month ago....3 wins isnt as good as 6 3rds or whatever LOL...I know what I mean hehehe

*******EDIT*******
here is part of what I posted in answer to Czuch :)

I have had about OH DEAR...about 6-8 2nds? I think....but as Barb said below it isnt very often I finish out of the top 5....maybe that has something to do with it....Only Fencer can answer that :)

But example: wins = 10, 2nd = 8, 3rd = 6, 4th = 4 etc etc.

in 5 games you have 2 wins, 1 3rd, 2 misses. = 26(does sound better than mine.)
I have 3 3rds, 1 2nd, 1 4th. = 30.
now this is an example only going on my rates of being in top 5 finishing....

1. May 2005, 08:03:05
Fencer
Well, the ratings are based on final positions of the particular pond players. When you have the last round of a finished pond, consider players behind you as your wins, players on the same position as draws and the rest as your losses. And, of course, their current BKR is significant for the BKR result.

1. May 2005, 06:13:42
Bernice
No it doesnt change with each game completed...well I dont think so....I have had 2-3 completed games today Im sure and my rating is the same as it was 9 hours ago :)
