Tuesday: Tuesday, does he do this whining the mintue you get into the car?? You can try using a technique called desensitzing..I have to use it often in my training of dogs because they have gotten to far beyond their owners ability to help...even had to to it with Damien in the car..he was AWEFUL taking for a ride, you'd get there and your ears would be bleeding (almost, lol)

Tuesday: I have seen that the females are far more affectionate then the males,BUT very goofy at times(think of how human females get moody)..males are more serious, altho just as fun!! Damien will let me snuggle him for about 5 seconds then is like,ok,Mom,seriously.....Miss Nik sits on me for hugs, lol. It all boils down to what each person prefers...I honestly prefer the male...and will never have anything but my GSD's

Artful Dodger: I think any breed can be "child friendly" IF raised around kids...also depends on what you are looking for,big or small, male or female. What kind of kids?? small children that are hyper and running around?? Your local shelter will be more then happy,I am sure to help guide you towards a dog that is suited for your needs and wants. If you want a purebred but can't find one through the local shelter, try to google a breed specific shelter....TONS out there...good luck!!

ok,now in all seriousness,if you look at this dogs body language, you can CLEARLY see that he is tense and not comfortable with the situation...then the reporter reaches over top of him (a dominate posture in a dogs eyes) so the dog reacts as alot of dogs would...dogs can't SAY..hey,bud,go away..BUT he was trying to tell him by his body language.....if only the guy was more observant, lol

There IS a humane way for a farm to kill an animal, that video is NOT humane. An animal kills to survive...a humane does that because they are frigged up in the head!

I won't go into the type of people that run these mills, but anyone that does a bit of reasearch will know who they are...seems they are exempt from alot of the laws we are held to.I don't get that.Petland, whcih is a petstore close to us buys from a broker out of Pittsburg.I overheard one sales person telling a customer what a close relationship they have with the breeder....My husband said, yeah, now how about telling them what kind of conditions the pups REALLY come from.Wish they would have herad that comment.

I use to work at an animal hospital/humane dept and the things I saw come through WERE really disturbing. How people can do that stuff to an animal is unreal...I think these will be good stories tho (the Vick dogs) to show how dogs CAN be rehabed to fit into society, even after suffering at the hands of humans.

Last year’s federal case against Vick dominated the media for months, generating public concern for the dogs seized from Bad Newz Kennels—and for animal victims across the country still involved in this brutal “sport.” The sentence may have been handed down, but the concern and questions still remain. What happened to the dogs seized in the case? How did Vick get involved in this underworld?

Many of these questions will be answered this Sunday night during “Animal Witness: The Michael Vick Case," the premiere episode of Animal Planet’s new series on animal forensics. The one-hour show offers an in-depth look at Vick and exposes the hidden world of dog fighting—and for the first time on national television, lead investigator Bill Brinkman talks about the inner workings of the case.

The episode will also feature interviews with Dr. Melinda Merck, ASPCA Forensic Veterinarian, and Officer Annemarie Lucas, Supervisory Special Investigator, ASPCA Humane Law Enforcement. As reported in ASPCA News Alert, the ASPCA worked closely with federal authorities at every step of the case, first assisting in forensic examinations and later leading behavior evaluations of the seized dogs.

“The involvement of an extremely high-profile celebrity in the horrific sport of dog fighting prompted universal public outrage and condemnation,” says ASPCA President & CEO Ed Sayres. “This case will forever remain a pivotal point in the history of animal welfare in this country and the world.”

The episode is scheduled to air at 10:00 P.M. EST this Sunday evening, August 24. Please visit Animal Planet online to learn more. Please note, the episode does feature footage from underground dog fighting videos—viewer discretion is advised

ScarletRose: The ATTS (American Temperament Test Society) has standard tests that they give the dogs. The American Pit bull terrier came in with an 84.1% passing rate. The American Staffordshire terrier came in with an 83.9% passing rate. Those are not bad figures when you consider that so called "family dogs" such as the collie passed with a 79.2%, that cute little Chihuahua passed with only a 71.4%, and Americas favorite family breed, the Golden Retriever passed with an 83.8%.

I don't believe that a pitbul has ever had the number one ranking as the most "vicious" dog.
When I owned my dalmatian, they were ranked higher then the pit as far as biting goes

Artful Dodger: Damien use to LOVE kids..now he is more muture and a bit older and doesn't tolerate them as well,so I don't let kids pet him. They can look, but not touch, because I will NOT take that chance.
A WONDERFUL way to break the ice with a dog is to offer treats..I tell everyone I meet this,it starts to earn the trust of a dog.If a person is truly "bad" the dog knows, and he will let YOU know.
ANY DOG that just flys off seemingly unprovaoked has issues, weather it be breeding, socialization (or LACK OF IT) dominance issuses,or terirtorial issuses, but these can ALL be adderessed by the owner being responsible.
I train dogs and do you think I will walk up to a strange dog,big or little that I don't know? no way..why? because I am not stupid, lol.I also do not EVER allow my dogs to be offlead,EXCEPT at the training club, and it is under INTENSE training that they can be offlead.I have at LEAST 5 dogs a week run up on us at the park and the owner yelling that famous.."oh!! it's ok!! my dog doesn't bite!!" ummm,ALL DOGS CAN BITE! and what if mine did bite? people are so ignorant when it comes to dogs and it just rubs me wrong!

Subject: Re: When you think of dangerous dog breeds, which animal do you picture: a pit bull or a wiener dog?
srnity: oh!! I read an article of why small dogs seem to have that "superman ego"!! So many owners hold their little dogs all the time, which puts them at a level to look down on other dogs,so when they are actaully put on the ground, they still have this sence that they are "over top" the bigger one.
And I agree...I have been bit more times by of all things, weiner dogs, then any other types.
Dogs have PREY DRIVE..it is what God intended a dog to have,it is nature. When IRRESPONSIBLE owners tie their dogs out and never walk them or never mentally stimulate them, they go stir crazy and they see kids riding by on bikes and running past screaming, all the things kids do and the dog one day snaps. That isn't the dogs fault,it is the owners fault.Just like it was the owners fault that I got bit by the weiner dog, because anytime that dog would snap at someone, they would laugh,it was cute and funny to them.Wasn't so funny when my leg was bleeding tho, gotta tell ya.
