Rose: Dogs should also be put into that catagory of getting fixed,Although I feel like a bit of a hipocrite on that because of us not having Damien fixed yet.If it was my choice,he would be fixed and we would get a pound pup.Hubby wants to breed Damien though and we will take pick of the litter. The ONE plus to that,is,it WILL be a planned pregnancy, the female will be chossen carefully to ensure the bloodline stays strong with no genetic defects.Pups from the litter go for about $2,000.00 so I'm sure that people paying that kind of money would be more responsible.Although one never knows. These dogs are used for protection, police and military.Damien will soon be trained in tracking and is my goal to have him someday help in a missing person case.We will be getting him fixed after the conception takes place though.

CinnamonGirl: yeah..it's abandonment!! I don't understand the way people think! Oh,it's to expensive to get ONE fixed...you get ONE fixed and you can literally save dozens if not hundreds of lives of animals! If people did nothing but CONTROLLED bredding, overpopulation wouldn't be a problem, but unfortanatly, you have people like our families, you have back yard breeders...shame really. My parents had like 5 cats at one time...you know all outside "mousers" as people call them. Not one of them they had fixed and they started to multiply,FAST..well,after so long, they got overwhelmed and took them and dumped them all at some farms, still unfixed.Stupid!!

Many of you know that Steve Erwin was killed today during a diving accident off of the coral reef.A stingray stuck him through the heart,he was 44 and leaves behind his wife and 2 kids.I know there is a post of this on the main chat board but I wanted a speacial post for him here,on our board.
Steve was dedicated to helping animals of all kinds and educating people on animals...he was a great man and and endless worker in the protection of animals..he will be sadly missed. The only silver lining is that he died doing what he loved to do,and that was being with the animals.May your God take care of you in your passing and help your family through this difficult times...our thoughts are with them all.

WatfordFC: I truely do not know of any that will just do it for free, which is a shame. My nieghbor just made the comment that she wanted to take a stray female in to get fixed but just can't afford it.So,because a vet will not donate their time, she will probably keep reproducing.
I must say that we bougth Damien..I had hubby talked into buying him and then going to a shelter to get a second dog but the kennel owner talked him out of it (AUGH!!!!) We DID make sure to get him though from a reputable breeder..I did a crap load of research in general but also on him,and the kennel.Their are so many animals that need help, still wish we would get a pound puppy.

Subject: An average on home less animals
Not sure how acurate this is now because this stat is from about 10 years ago so I'm sure the numbers are now higher...but 10 years ago to give every cat in the US a home...each person (not family...each PERSON) would have to take in 21 cats and 7 dogs....that would mean a family of 4 would have to take in 84 cats and 28 dogs.Breeding can be done if it is done RESPONSIBLY...letting your animals slip out and opps, your pregnant is not a way to go about it.If all the unwanted pregnancies alone were avoided, imagine how many less unwanted there would be.I think a big problem is also when the "newness" of the pup or kitten wear off of most people and the animals get into their "terrible 2's" they just give up and get rid of the animal.

He is learing his "park it" command, which is where he learns to go onto a rug and settle down.Or If I just need him out from under my feet. His heeling is doing GREAT! He is now heeling off lead and matching me step for step.I walk,he walks,I jog,he jogs,I stop he stops, all while maintaining eye contact with me!

Thhis week was actually kind of boring..needed but boring,lol..He is learning to stand form the sitting position..all he wants to to eat your fingers off to get the food.He never has learned the meaning of the "soft mouth". He is doing VERY well when people come into the house.I take him out of the room and them walk him in,make him sit and wait and then walk him a bit closer..Takes a few minutes but he has to elarn that you don't bark and carry on like a fool when someone comes in.He met a 2 year old female german shepard down at the park and ADORED her! He gave her his tummy!! And then tried to mount her lol...boys will be boys I suppose. He is only 6 months old and is bigger then her and outweights her by about 5 pounds.
Anywho...my little boy is doing awesome!

Subject: Signs of overheating in dogs
Signs of Overheating and How to Respond
Watch all dogs for symptoms of heatstroke, such as restlessness, excessive thirst, heavy panting, lethargy, lack of appetite, dark tongue, rapid heartbeat, fever, vomiting, and lack of coordination. If a dog shows any of these symptoms, get him or her into the shade immediately and call animal control or the police (if the dog is not your companion) or your veterinarian (if the dog is your companion). Lower the animal’s body temperature gradually by providing water to drink; applying a cold towel or ice pack to the dog’s head, neck, and chest; or immersing the dog in lukewarm (not cold) water.

wow, talk about little time anymore, lol.Week 2 he was taught the heel command but my goodness, everything comes so easily to him except for this one...it took him 2 weeks to get it.He got it though, lol. We are also adding distractions to his stay, and come with distractions. This week past he was also started with targeting. He was suppose to have right turn to heel added this week but since he was still having trouble with the heel itself, she is waiting for next Monday to add it.Overall he is doing absolutly great with his training.I am very proud of him...if you guys hadn't noticed, lol!!!

Nothingness: what kind (size) of tank/bowl are they in? Bettas actually live in mud puddles in asia (i think Asia) and so they can take not having the water changed that much.My sister in law once left hers go for so long (I don't recommend this, lol) that you could not see in the bowl!!! God Bless the little guy cuz he was fine and dandy! You might check with the pet store too, they can help.

Sorry,a little behind on his progress report, lol. He strated his intermidiate training this past Monday. After I learned the right way to command him to my side,he picked up on it rather fast, lol. He is als learning to sit without moving with distractions going on around him such as me and the trainer throwing the ball or me walking around squeeking a toy.He learns very fast..alot faster then I seem to catch on,lol!!

srnity: I agree with not giving her any meds, she will come through this.I would suggest though that maybe after a few weeks you get back to a normal routine with her...Did you always take her everywhere that you went before this happened? If not then I would say slowly go back to that routine.Dogs thrive on consistancy. You may be accidently feeding into her anxiaty (sp) by taking her everywhere. She may need to just see Mom leave and then see that hey..Mom WILL come back after all.I'm not an expert but I am just telling you what I have been told by a trainer.Good luck and please keep us all posted !!!

Our nieghbor said that slugs are sweet tasting to them..mine also got sick and was frothing at the mouth and throwing up.Now,I REALLY try to keep him away from them.

Did you know that the price of disposable paper products such as Kleenex, Scott, and Cottonelle includes the destruction of an acre of ancient trees every 12.9 seconds?

Kimberly-Clark, maker of these products, refuses to use recycled paper even though they have the means to do so. Sign this petition to tell Kimberly-Clark to use post-consumer recycled content in their products!

Kimberly-Clark doesn’t want you to know that they use 3.3 million tons of virgin fiber annually to make their consumer products, which will ultimately end up in a landfill. Act now! Go to: http://go.care2.com/e/lxb/n0/Qmzt

The virgin fiber comes from ancient trees in the Boreal Forest. This chain of trees, spanning the far Northern latitudes, is one of the largest ecosystems on the planet and one of the last great ancient forests we have. Caribou, Lynx, Black Bear, Moose, Timber Wolf, over 200 bird species, and Wood Bison all make their homes here.

Act today! Tell Kimberly-Clark to stop blowing their noses on ancient forests! Sign this petition to urge Kimberly-Clark to use post-consumer recycled content in their products before they destroy every remaining tree.
