HOME fellowship needs a player for cylinder chess so we can join the team tournement. Just ONE player! There must be someone who wants to join the tournament?!

It's good to see the Q+B outside of maha chess.

i played some games in amazon chess and at first it seems to be mostly similar to chess (because most of my opponents wanted to exchange the amazons).
but against bratr i played the first game in which i really noticed the power of the amazons - with a funny mate! http://brainking.com/game/ArchivedGame?g=491106

There is a binary openning book for Sjeng engine (about 300Kb). I think it is compiled from a collection of Crazyhouse games played at FICS.

Does someone know where I can find an opening book of loop chess (crazyhouse, Transferschach, or what it is called *;) )?

Thanks!
I have not found anything in the web...

Troy: The pawn cannot move because its move would expose your king to the check by the white bishop. These things are often not spotted in cylinder chess :-)

I was reading the letters as if I was white. It's my A6 pawn that I want to move, not the H6. Sorry about that.

I don't see any legal move for your h6-pawn. In fact, h5 is occupied, while a5 and g5 are both vacant. This prevents the pawn from moving forward or making a capture.

In this game, http://brainking.com/game/ShowGame?g=482245, my pawn on h6 can't move. All of my other pieces with legal moves are clickable links, but this one is just a non-clickable image. It might be related to the fact that I can capture into the a column with that pawn.

a draw can be agreed upon...
doesn't necessarily have to be a stalemate

Stalemates must be quite common. According to the games rules page, 10.42 % of games end in draws. Strange in such an unbalanced game...

Subject: Re: the shape of pawns
In my opinion, the rose border around the board already indicates that this game is quite different from regular chess. Changing the shape of the pawns is not really necessary.

8. October 2004, 20:23:34

Because Berolina Pawns' different movement makes them different pieces which should not be confused with regular pawns. For example, this page shows a Berolina symbol.

Subject: pawn promotion
when a pawn reaches the other side of the board .. is it allowed to promote it to a pawn again ?

is this allowed with the last pawn on the board ?
would you lose if you promote your last pawn to a pawn ? (in theory there might be a short period during the promotion in which you have no pawn left ?)

Maybe Berolina Pawns should not look the same as regular pawns?

"black King on A1
white Majarajah on B3

black to move."

This isn't stalemate... White just checkmated black by placing the maharajah at that position. So it's not black's turn: a win as already been accomplished.

It is actually a good strategy for white to try and get "into" the black's position, hoping for a stalemate :-)

<>It says in the rules: "...the game is finished if the Maharajah or the king is in a checkmate, >one player is in a stalemate, etc."

OK the game is finished but how??? With what result? Your copied text is incomplete and incapable of explaining the compete rules. You should have added:

The game is finished WITH THE SAME RESULT AS IN CHESS if the Maharajah or the king is in a checkmate, one player is in a stalemate, etc.

sure - black can't move if only two pieces are on the board:

black King on A1
white Majarajah on B3

black to move.

Subject: Re: Capture question
Pawns in Berolina Chess only capture vertically.
A 2-square diagonal move by one of them the first
time it moves cannot be a capture.

Subject: Capture question
A pawn can go two spaces diagonally on it's first move.

Can it capture a piece doing this?

For example if white had a piece on E5, could black take a pawn from G7 to capture the piece on E5?

Sorry, thought it was clear. Edited previous message to add "(Maharajah piece)" next to they so hopefully it would be more clear.

when you mean they: the black or the white?
If the white can't move I think it's stalemate. So a draw.
If the black can't move... can this even happen?

Quick question - if I DO NOT put the Maharajah piece into check, and they (Maharajah piece) DOES NOT have any valid moves - is it a win for me, or a draw?

*Edited to add "Maharajah piece" next to they
