I created the tourney, it should be interesting..

grenv: i totally agree with the Random Atomic Chess (RAC) proposal...it is too easily memorized as it is, moreso than chess, since many more moves are forced or virtually forced. Suicide Chess could use a shot in the arm here too.

but in battle chess, you could see the squares, reza is proposing that the blood obscure the squares as in dark. Could make for some high level timing strats.

THe problem with grey chess is that you can just play over the game based on the move list, so that it becomes regular chess!

Chessmaster1000: i mean closer in that it would result for more wins for white. You are right in that it doesn't change the fact that this is a "solved" game. I like the idea of removing the black queen.

WhisperzQ: i totally agree, but at least it would be closer than now! The problem with this game is that it's really a training game to get the players to figure out the moves. It was not intended for FM-IM-GM class players!

how about this, Fencer. If white can capture 2 pieces, he wins. It's just ridiculously easy the way it is now.

very safe, feel free to experiment with a4, h5 things that are off the wall in regular chess. But at the same time, tried and true openings work as well.

castling, ironically, still has its use as a "suprise move"!

you got it, Ramblin. The only possible downside to promotion is by promoting your last pawn, you'd lose the game. I've seen a few cases where selective promotion has won games for people, some to Qs, some to other pieces that were "endangered." Honestly, though, promotion doesn't happen nearly as often as regular chess.

But both of your questions are spot on. 2 kings is no different than 2 queens.

but white can't physically move..! how would that work then? auto pass? :)

stalemate is possible, though unlikely. Eg white king on b2, Black king on a2, queen on b1, another queen somewhere. White to move, if white moves to a1 and black moves the other queen to b2, white is stalemated. Black would have to be pretty dense to do that though!

I don't think castling is allowed...but my memory may be fuzzy..I remember that we had this discussion, grenv, because the king is of no particular importance it makes no sense to protect him..

I will try a new impregnable position next black, something like the Roman battle formation turtling around the king...!

i thought I had one, Caissus, but i was disabused of that notion :(

i think there are impregnable setups in this game, which is actually one of the reasons I prefer starting as black.
