Subject: Game Suggestion
While looking through old post, I found one from October 2002 that suggested Yatzee as a game.

I think that would be a cool game to add here. (Plus I would not think it would be to complex to program either.)

Subject: creating new games -- with rating range
I have started a few new games (pente) and I selected a certain rating range that I would like to play against, but I get people accepting the game even though they are not in the rating range. Am I doing something wrong or does it not work?

Subject: Move highlight..
Fencer, any chance of changing the color of the highlight where a move is made. For us webtv'ers its very hard to discern where the move was made. Its especially bad on the pente boards. How about a light red as that would point out the stone easily. As it is i have to strain mightily just to see where my opponent has move, i can figure it out but it would save time and brain strain to reconize it right off. Thanks for the great site..

It would most likely have to do with the fact that your opponent had a provisional rating. Those can do strange things at times :-)

22. April 2003, 02:06:33
grenv
usually the rating changes a little, unless the gap is huge. In this case I had about 1800 vs 2100. I would have expected 1800 to go up a little and 2100 to come down...

Draws do count in the ratings. I have had mine change after draws but the variables in your record and such may not have led to a rating change.

still doesn't answer my question. Do draws not count towards the rating? Why not?

21. April 2003, 20:10:28

Just one, MysticPhantom. Its counted as one win or one loss overall.

On two occasions I have drawn matches against players with significantly higher ratings and my rating wasn't affected at all. I would have expected to go up slightly? Can someone explain these ratings a little better?

I agree with Big Bad Wolf; love to see an editing feature. I use Notes a lot when playing Dark chess and an edit facility would be VERY useful.

Yes, 7 point match. 1 point for a win, 1/2 point for a draw. It doesn't matter how you win, or by how much, in any game (yet).

Subject: Re:
but if you noticed it is a 7 point match.
I would assume that getting your opponent into a gammon or backgammon , that the program would give proper credit for such.

21. April 2003, 05:35:30
grenv
I assume you mean because you gammoned your opp. However this is not a real backgammon match, as it would be with the doubling cube. With your logic you would be creditted with 2 wins every time this happened which is not the case.

I agree a pro version with the doubling cube would be a great addition.

please review this game;

on this move I should have been credited with 2 points not 1.
I would like to see Brainking fix the backgammon program here.
that and a doubling cube would be enough to hook me into buying a membership here.

... plus is there any way to edit (or remove) the notes you already have. I sometimes add to them, and the old notes to myself stays there in the way - if there was a way to remove them and/or edit them - that would be cool also! :-)

I would like to repeat a request that was made a while back about the notes feature. Is there any way it could be put at the TOP of the game page? instead of way down below all the game info?

When I am playing a lot of games, I remind myself of my strategy for that particular game in that note, and with it so far down, I many times forget about it and don't notice it!

Hi,
On the Wating Games page, could you put the player's BKR in the list? It's better to choose a game when you know how strong your opponent will be...

grenv
i just meant that coming out and searching is quicker than using the drop list when there are a lot of games, so I wouldn't want that option to become more difficult by itself being buried in a drop list.
"Move and go to game list" is my most used button. If I had a slower connection it might not be i guess, 2 refreshes instead of one, but they are instantaneous on cable modem.

Subject: Re:
grenv: as u know as rooks we already have a drop list at the bottom of games to choose which game to play next anyway, so we have no reason to come out and search for a game when the option is already there for you (pawns do not have that).
I am thinking more along the lines of us that have fellowships etc.. & get asked questions about the site from ppl who rather wouldnt bother Fencer, it would save time for us moving around the site :)

18. April 2003, 17:50:24

I find it easier and quicker to click the goto game list, and then click on the game i want to play, rather than search a drop down. Drop downs seem to lose their value if there's more than 5 or 6 values. Just my 2c, and my usability lab agrees with me!

I had a thought when playing through some games (strange eh lol).
I often getting messages sent to me about all sorts of stuff, but have to go to main page then message box to get there.
I was going to ask Fencer if there is a chance at the end of the game we are in to add one more box to say Move and go to Message box :-) BUT....
then i thought it may be better to have them all in one drop box
i.e. have Move and go to next game as default then
some others incuded in a drop list, so we could make a move and basically go to most the important places we need to on the site :-)

I use up to 3-4 different computer in a day - and some of the computers have a "clean" boot from a boot image every time they are turned on - meaning no cookies, no nothing. No trace of any past activities. So I'm pretty sure it is not on my side.

Do you refresh your browser pagewhen you load your brain King page? I have brain King set to a favorite place, and whne I load it, ti brings up thel ast page, exactly as it appeared. The (XX new) messages will appear as they duid athe last time I viewed the page. Then I hit refresh and it updates to the current status. I don't knopw if this would solve the problem or not for those who are having this problem.

yea, it is pretty interesting. I'm not sure how this site keeps track of how many un-read messages in each board, but to me it just seems that possible the "counter" for me on the Feature board got corrupted or something - so it is not keeping the correct count.

And since it is not everyone, it has to be something just with my account, and not the board.

Subject: Problem seeing new messages
Here is my current problem, which it seems it is not happing to many people - but for this board only, I do not see the (XX new messages) message which shows up next to the room when their are new messages.

This message does not appear in my Favourite Boards list, and does not appear when I click on the main "discussion boards" link.

One of the reasons I keep on bringing this up is I'm not sure if this is the only board I'm having this problem - it's the only board that I've noticed - and being a Moderator for some of the boards - I would hate for this feature to be "broke" on those boards also - or it might be weeks before I check on them....

Is anyone who mentioned that were also having problems with this way below still having this problem, or am I the only one now?
