Subject: Re: Reversi Race
I am just the casual reversi player. I do not play a lot but do enjoy playing it now and then. However I do not see what the fuss is about. I know some do not like the start of the game. However before starting a game you could make an agreement about the starting 4 pieces. If this is what the issue is. I am not sure. If I am missing the arguement please enlighten me.

Subject: Re: BACKGAMMON!!
Backgammon is part luck as far as the dice go. However what you do with the dice rolls is the skill part. The players with better records and ratings are the ones who know how to use the dice rolls to their best advantage. IS there luck involved? Of course. However there has to be some skill as well or how else would you explain why some have great records while some have bad records. Nonetheless, if your primary objective is to have fun then what does any of the ranking stuff matter.

Subject: Re: Backgammon ratings
I guess Iplay for fun as much as ratings. I track my ratings and try to get them as high as I can. I usually try playing players that roughly within 300 points of my rating either above or below. I know i have been able to build up my rating by playing higher rated players and try to give lower rated players a chance to do the same. If I lose, I lose. That is my attitude in all games I play. I figure I am good enough to regain my rating points if I should lose to someone under me. I just enjoy playing. I feel higher rated players who refuse to play lower rated players are cowardly because they are afraid to lose rating points. Remember that it was higher rated players that accepted games against you when you started out that gave you an opportunity to gain your position. So why not give someone else the same chance.

Subject: Re: Arranging games
I play 2-game matches all the time with the line games. You alternate the color you are for each game. The downfall is you do not play both games simultaneously and each game in the match is not calculated for rating, just the match result.

Subject: Re: Arranging games
I know what you are saying. You want it set up like on IYT with the 2 game match. However I play quite a bit of 2 game matches and I like it the way it is. However I can understand wanting each game to be taken into account seperately.

Draws do count in the ratings. I have had mine change after draws but the variables in your record and such may not have led to a rating change.

That is a good idea Ron. Myself I always look at the poster's profile and see how good they are before I take a game.

Subject: Re: High rated Players
Ok I have only been in one tournament here. I find tournaments take long to play like at IYT. SO I prefer playing non-tourney games so they move faster. I also play all kinds of opponents from bottom rating challengers to top players. For me it seems like more fun that way. After we should be playing for fun. There are too many serious things in the world without freaking out over a rating number.

Subject: Re: Forced challenges
How about this? I am sure Fencer can set it up. Have a 2 game tournament every six months. That way the top spot is up for grabs. Make it an 8 player tournament. It would be a required tournament and you could give each player like 2 or 3 days to make the move. To sweeten the pot so that these "phony players" will want to play put up a prize. This could be a 6 month membership, merchandise, or a cash reward.

Subject: Re: Leaders boards
My thought is do not play with those players. They will get bored when no one will play them. It is not much fun to be on top when there is no one to play with. Also I noticed that there are a lot of players signed up here that do not play at all or havent played in quite a while. I would suggest having a time table for them to play or have to start over. I wonder how many players there are on the boards who do not play here anymore or rarely play a game.

Subject: Re: Leaders boards
If you are concerned about it just make every game you create a 2 games match. To me personally it makes little difference as I am black 9 times out of 10 anyway. I just prefer being that color and by playing with it 90% of the time I do not get confused as what color I am in any particular game.

Subject: New feature
I like the new feature on your personal main page letting you know what tournaments are out there to sign up for. It is a different each time you go to the main page. Nice idea.

Spencer: I rarely have my messenger on unless I am looking to meet up with someone and chat. But thanks for the info.

Rabbits2: Thanks for the info note on this subject. I have an old version webtv by Sony so maybe that is part of it as well. I just wondering if it was happening to PC people too. So far it looks like a webtv glitch.

I have deleted my cookies and deleted the discarded e-mails from my e-mail storage area as well. I also find that sometimes that is not enough. If I spend long periods on the webtv it happens too.

Subject: White screen
Maybe it is because I play on a webtv (MSNTV) system there is this problem. Occassionally when I click on move and goto the next game button I get blank white screen. has anyone else whether they use webtv or a PC had this situation occur?

I know Fencer is busy. However how about introducing card games such as cribbage, hearts, rummy, or even solitare.

The checkers game was not ended that way. We played 80 moves and agreed on the draw. The Halma 8x8 was played to its conclusion.

Subject: Ratings unchanged
I have 2 questions about ratings.
1. I played a game of checkers to a draw. I am unrated and the opponent was under 1100. It was the fourth completed game. I am still unrated. WHY?

2. I won a game of Halma 8x8 with an unrated player and I am 1204. The rating did not change. Why?

Yes the games were to be calculated for player rating.

Subject: Question
I was wondering when sabotage and battleship games will become available. IYT this week announced membership price increases. Also non-members who cant afford right now to become members, are being cutback to 25 moves per day. So it would be more advantageous to play those games here. Please respond when you can. I really love spending time playing on this site.

Subject: RE:harley
I agree that there are people who play way too many games at once. In a tournament I am in I looked at an opponent profile an the opponent was playing almost 190 games at a time. That is just insane. If a person can handle it that is fine but how about the opponents who have to wait for long stretches to play moves with these people. I love the site however.

That would be true. Another concern is making it webtv compatible. However I have access to a PC as well as my webtv so I could make it work. It would still be fun.
