Baked Alaskan: I believe it's because of the size of the icons on that "line". I can't reproduce it here (screenshot 1), but with a few tweaks to my userChrome.css file (screenshot 2, notice the path to the file) I got something similar (screenshot 3) :)
... maybe you can change your userChrome.css file to change the size to something you like.
