Emne: Yes, Poetry.com I would have to agree is a scam..
here is the first poem they promised as being published. I have yet to see my name on their lists for published Authors and I have had 5 offers of the 6 or 7 I have posted to their site.. Each offer comes complete with an order form for my own copie of the book.. Which is rather pricy.. I don't believe I have ever seen the finished product sold to the public..

TODAY WAS YOUR BIRTHDAY

~To My Lovely Daughter Bree~
Today was your Birthday, 18 you turned..
Candles on the cake, forever they burn..
Memories of years, how quickly they passed..
Crawling to walking, an Halloweens 1st mask..
You breathed in life, six minutes to noon..
Laughed at funny faces, stared at the Moon..
Today's your Birthday, eighteen you must be..
Taking your future, a woman now I see..
Celebrating in a city, Far away you roam..
Soon off to college, miles away from home..
We celebrated with barbecuing..
Just like we always do..
One thing was different..
It was celebrated without you..
A Trip to New York..
With your father you went..
What a lonesome firework show..
Your Momma has spent..
Happy B-Day Bree!

Emne: Night Of The Full Moon
It is the night of the full moon. A night of song for wolves, but at last the night is still. No wolves sing their songs of lonliness to the moon. There isn't even a chirp heard from a cricket. It is dead silence:Everyone and everything is settled in for the night's slumber. In the house here isn't even the sound of footsteps in the corridors. They too are silent and dark. Only the lowly moon shines in the night sky as a cool breeze blows up.It shines, but it still looks lonely.

Emne: The Battle
Now that the conflict is over, can we foresee it's outcome? Which ripples like little waves on the waters of time? No. I don't think so. It is an unforseeable future that we can't fathom. As sisters goes, is there still love there?A sense of belonging. You say let's not talk for awhile. I need time to heal and lick my wounds. I turn away tail tucked and defeated. I hate the taste of humblle pie, is at times most bitter, but I feel I did what was best I removed myself from the battlefield. A seasoned soldier in flight, wishing that there was no casualities. I only find the wounded. Shall we carry it to the infirmary? I turned away from the scene with tear stained eyes. Wishing that things could of had a different outcome. Battle worn, torn and sworn to protect that which is ours.

Yes, if they state they are awarding prize money, they have to do so, or else it is fraud. However, that doesn't stop some people from committing fraud. The posted winners *could* be part of an elaborate deception, perhaps even with "winners" paid to testify that they won prizes.

However, as long as these people have been around, I doubt they take it to that extent. I would hope not, anyway. I personally don't like the greasy way they do business... I'm not even sure I trust them to honor copyright law, but I wasn't about to lay to $50.00 for one of their books just to make sure they omitted the poem I asked them not to print.

That said, by all means--take a shot at the prize money. I'd love to hear a positive story about these guys that wasn't solicited by Poetry.Com. If you win, be sure and tell us all about it!

:)

Good luck, musiclover--and to whoever else wishes to enter as well.

Radiant, I have had all those letters and more from them. Yes, the National Library of Poetry's website is www.poetry.com. But if you go to the site, you can view who wins the daily prize, the monthly prize and when the big won should be awarded. If they do not honor the prizes, they are in BIG trouble with the law. I appreciate your input and the info you are giving me.

It looks like very much this site: www.poetry.com... I sent in a poem almost 2 years ago and then they sent me a letter in which stood I won $20000,-- !! I would be nominated.. :-))) Awesome, right! But they phrased it very clever and invited me for a symposia for which I had to pay my own flight tickets and entrance tickets and it looked still very promising; but I learned that its all a very clever way for commercial and so I just decline every offer they make towards me..

But musiclover, I don't want to discourage you to send in your beautiful poetry :-)

Go ahead and enjoy,

PowerPygmie, I have been dealing with that site for almost 3 years and some of what you say is true. They have to, by law, award prize money as they state on their site so each person still has a chance to win. But thanks for the info even though I agree with some of what you say.

I hate to burst anyone's bubble, but those guys are a sham. They basically publish whatever gets sent to them in "special edition" hardcopy volumes, and offer to sell them to the poets who enter their contests.

They flatter the entrants and then offer to have their poems included in a cassette with special readings, mounted on a special plaque, etc... all for hefty fees.

Last time I checked up on these guys, someone was purposely trying to send in bad poetry to see if it would get rejected, but they weren't rejecting any.

Also, as of last time I checked, they still have one of my poems on their website somewhere, though I asked for it to be removed several years ago.

Just a heads-up. Take the National Library of Poetry with about a metric ton's worth of salt.

Fencer, I just submitted this poem. Wish me luck please.

Poem of Mine

Another poem I shall write,
to win some money as things are tight.
A loan of course will never do;
the funds to pay back will forever be due.
I shall try to make my poem rhyme,
but the critics shall be hurtful, not kind.
So please be fair in judging this poem of mine.
This poem will be famous all in time.

Emne: The Valley of Unrest

Once it smiled a silent dell
Where the people did not dwell:
They had gone unto the wars,
Trusting to the mild-eyed stars,
Nightly from their azure towers,
In the midst of which all day
The red sunlight lazily lay.
Now each visitor shall confess
The sad valley's restlessness.
Nothing there is motionless--
Nothing save the airs that brood
Over the magic solitude.
Ah, by no wind those clouds are driven
That rustle through the unquiet Heaven
Uneasily, from morn till even,
Ove the violets there that lie
In myriad types of the human eye--
Over the lilies there that wave
And weep above a nameless grave!
They wave:--from out their fragrant tops Eternal dews come down in drops.
They weep:--from off the delicate stems
Perennial tears descend in gems.

Emne: The Haunted Palace

In the greenest of our valleys
By good angels tenanted,
Once a fair and stately palace--
Radiant palace--reared its head.
In the monarch Thought's dominion--
It stood there!
Never seraph spread a pinion
Over fabric half so fair!

Banners yellow, glorious, golden,
On its roof did float and flow,
(This--all this--was in the olden
Time long ago,)
And every gentle air that dallied,
In that sweet day,
Along the ramparts plumed and pallid,
A wingčd odor went away.

Wanderers in that happy valley,
Through two luminous windows, saw
Spirits moving musically,
To a lute's well-tunčd law,
Round about a throne where, sitting
(Porphyrogene!)
In state his glory well befitting,
The ruler of the realm was seen.

And all with pearl and ruby glowing
Was the fair palace-door,
Through which came flowing, flowing, flowing,
And sparkling evermore,
A troop of Echoes, whose sweet duty
Was but to sing,
In voices of surpassing beauty,
The wit and wisdom of their king.

But evil things, in robes of sorrow,
Assailed the monarch's high estate.
(Ah, let us mourn!--for never morrow
Shall dawn upon him desolate!)
And round about his home, the glory
That blushed and bloomed
Is but dim-remembered story
Of the old time entombed.

And travellers now, within that valley,
Through the red-litten windows see
Vast forms, that move fantastically
To a discordant melody,
While, like a ghastly rapid river,
Through the pale door
A hideous throng rush out forever
And laugh--but smile no more.

Often your tasks will be many
And more than you think you can do...
Often the road will be rugged
And the hills insurmountable, too...
But always remember,
the hills ahead
Are never as steep as they seem,
And with Faith in your heart
start upward
And climb till you reach your dream,
For nothing in life that is worthy
Is ever too hard to achieve
If you have the courage to try it
And you have the Faith to believe...
For Faith is a force that is greater
Than knowledge or power
or skill
And many defeats turn to triumph
If you trust in God's wisdom and will...
For faith is a mover of mointains,
There's nothing that God cannot do,
So start out today
with Faith in your heart
And "Climb till your dreams come true"

Emne: The Old Woodshed
By:anorma Sworski

I like to think of our old woodshed,
With its crooked, sagging door,
Where the logs, chopped for the winter,
Lie in heaps upon the floor.

Bark and sawdust for a carpet,
Splinters often found bare toes.
And the switch above the doorway
We used to dust our clothes.

Outside walls showed carved initals
Left by generations past,
Linking hearts in love together,
Sworn throughout the years to last,
Giving to this ancient storehouse,
Leaning slightly to one side,
A stout determinatiion,
Quiet dignity,and pride.

As a tree bent in a windstorm,
Scarred and weathered, yet it stood,
And in my private, happy thoughts still holds
Memories that are warm and good.

Someone I once trusted
He lied, so he's busted

No apology or excuse
Would explain the abuse

Betrayal of friends
He won't make amends

He continues the lies
He's the lord of the flies

But we reap what we sow
So others will know

The truth he can't hide
Though we all know, he's tried

It's a site to behold
Where the truth can be told

No twisting nor tales
The truth ship now sails

It's launching complete
It's design to defeat

All the lies and distortions
Tales out of proportion

The truth now made clear
For all who will hear

Now this poem can be grown
Just add a line of your own
