Emne: Ensemble (Understand)
English translation of this Breton poem, written by Alan Stivell

Ensemble (Understand)

The heart of another can be felt by all
Deep down, all men are alike
To know the source of man´s heart is unchanging
Makes the exchange of idea´s possible
We must understand what others are really saying
We don´t always hear what they tell us

Eventually, we´ll have to get on, and live together
While each remains himself, so goes life

Indistincly, we hear what we want to believe in another´s words
Each time we remain deaf to this, evil sprouts among us
We can´t stay indifferent when injustice brings havoc
We must awaken consciousness both inner and outer.

Eventually we´ll have to get on, and live together
While each remains himself, so goes Life.

Emne: Excellent Cariad....
I may not know how well it was translated, I do remember the competition though!! And the song! Is inspirational (in any language!!)

When boyhood’s fire was in my blood
I read of ancient freemen,
For Greece and Rome who bravely stood,
Three hundred men and three men;
And then I prayed I yet might see
Our fetters rent in twain,
And Cymru, long a province, be.
A Nation once again!

A Nation once again,
A Nation once again,
And Cymru, long a province, be
A Nation once again!

And from that time, through wildest woe,
That hope has shone a far light,
Nor could love’s brightest summer glow
Outshine that solemn starlight;
It seemed to watch above my head
In forum, field and fane,
Its angel voice sang round my bed,
A Nation once again!

It whisper’d too, that freedom’s ark
And service high and holy,
Would be profaned by feelings dark
And passions vain or lowly;
For, Freedom comes from God’s right hand,
And needs a Godly train;
And righteous men must make our land
A Nation once again!

So, as I grew from boy to man,
I bent me to that bidding
My spirit of each selfish plan
And cruel passion ridding;
For, thus I hoped some day to aid,
Oh, can such hope be vain?
When my dear country shall be made
A Nation once again!

The Irish song, 'A Nation Once Again' by Thomas Osbourne Davis was the inspiration for the following:

Yn fachgen brwd a ’ngwaed ar dân,
Darllenais hanes cywrain
Tri chant a thri o arwyr glân
Fu’n gwarchod Groeg a Rhufain;
Ac yna rhoddais weddi daer
Cawn eto weld y dydd
Y chwalem furiau’r estron gaer
A dod yn Gymru rydd.

Daw Cymru’n Gymru Rydd
Daw Cymru’n Gymru Rydd
’Rôl byw yn hir dan estron gaer
Daw Cymru’n Gymru Rydd

Mor ddisglair drwy’r holl ddyddiau blin
Fu’r gobaith pell am ryddid,
Na allai serch a’i decaf rhin
Ragori ar ei lendid;
Fy ngwylio wnâi mewn llys a llan
Ac yn y maes liw dydd,
Pan gysgwn, canai ’gylch y fan ’
Daw Cymru’n Gymru rydd!

Ond nod aruchel, sanctaidd, hardd
Yw gwasanaethu rhyddid;
A gallai nwyd o isel radd
Amharu ar ei lendid;
Daw rhyddid o ddeheulaw Duw
A’i sail a’ sêl yw’r ffydd,
Drwy Gymry da caiff Cymru fyw
A dod yn Gymru rydd.

Fy unig sêl wrth ddod i oed
Oedd brwydro dros ei rhyddid,
A meithrin ysbryd, yn ddioed
Sy’n rhydd o bob aflendid;
Drwy fyw’n lân gobeithio’n wir
Caf godi ’ngwlad ryw dydd -
Nid ofer dweud, rôl caethglud hir
Bydd Cymru’n Gymru rydd!

Upon your creation, God broke the mould
a beautiful vision to behold.
The envy of both Kings and Queens
for a beauty so fair they would risk many things.
Beauty so fair cannot be duplicated
though many have tried they have as yet to make it.
You enter a room and men fight for a try
to have one so lovely stand by their side.
But the beauty that I find I cannot deny
is the beautiful heart that is kept deep inside.
It's the beautiful heart of the fairest of Queens
a beauty reserved just for fairy tale dreams.
When I look in your eyes I see love that's so true
it outweighs all physical beauty seen in you.
You see, true beauty is not found in magazines
it cannot be whipped up with make-ups and creams.
True beauty's a blessing, a gift from above
and can only be seen through the kind eyes of love.
And my vow to you now so the whole world can see
is to treat you with the same love you show to me.
Love so strong it weakens the strongest of men
I feel my love for you growing again and again.
If I have but one wish to wish before I die
it will be to forever have you at my side.…

Emne: Dedicated to Martin the Dragon.
Every dragon 'round these parts
Breathes a breath of flame.
But I can't even blow a spark
Which brings me grief and shame.
The other dragons often tease.
They jeer and sneer and shout
Cos every time I take a breath
I'm breathing hot dogs out.
Hot dogs when I blow my nose.
Hot dogs when I snore.
Hot dogs when I go achoo.
Hot dogs when I roar.
I lived a life of misery,
Agony, and woe,
Until I met a boy dragon.
Our friendship seemed to grow.
I said to him one starry night,
"I love you dear the most."
We sighed a gentle sigh together
And had a hot dog roast.

Weaver's Answer

Weaver of life, let me look and see
The pattern of my life gone by,
Shown on your tapestry.

Just for one second, one glance upon your loom
The flower of my childhood could have fit within this room
Does it of my youth show, tears of yesterday?
Broken hearts, within a heart, as love first came my way.

Do the lifeline patterns change as I became a man
An added aura untold blend as I asked for her hand.
Did your golden needle sew it, thread virginial white
As long as we embrace as one upon our wedding night.

Did you capture all the joys the birth of our first son?
The happiness of family made a brother for the one.
The growing of the brothers, the manliness that grew
is it there in detail? Is it their to view?
Do the sparks of life grow bright as one by one they wed?
To live as fathers, husbands, apart from lives they've led.

Are my lover's threads cut off when aged she laid to rest
My sorrow blacking out a space upon thou woven crest
A gathering for the last time as her coffin slowly lain
Ash to ashes, dust to dust, one day we will regain.
Does it show, does it swipe, grandchildren on my knee
But only hearing laughter when age took my sight from me.

Lastly through these last few years of loneliness maybe
Does it by sight a shooting star fade from your tapestry.
Wait there in the distance, over your loom I think I see
Could it be that after all my prayers you've answered me?
After days of wondering I see the reason why.
You kept it to this minute, for I'm about to die.

Weaver of life,
At last now I can see
The patterns of my life gone by, shown on your tapestry.

Emne: OK Usurper :-).... here you go:
one of my first poems written in English :-)

Hereby I send you a breath from the sea:

10000 crickets
a bit of air stirring,
the salty air
and the warmth of the evening sun.

a swimmer rolling on the waves
a trotting horse along the shore.

the warm red colours of the sunset
and the opposite, the moon: gold, almost full.

the waves slowly rolling
ending up on the sand
their rustle sound is gentle
its water gives and takes back again

in motion: its own rhytme...

I watch this game of waves
and notice that this soon makes me feel at ease

and
slowly, real slowly
we become one:

this breath from the sea and me..

Emne: IN PASSING - Part 1 - Youth
To be born in Wales,
Not with a silver spoon in your mouth
But, with music in your blood
And with poetry in your soul,
Is a privilige indeed.

Your inheritance is a land of Legend,
Of love and contrast
A land of beauty so bright it burns the eyes.
Of ugliness that scars the Spirit
As the Earth.

Wales is an old land with wounds
That weep in hills.
They wept before in the bodies of men
And in the hearts of women
And time will never heal them.

The stigmata of sorrow,
Of pain and poverty,
Of lonely crucifixtion in the dark,
Remain our lives to feed.

The Land of our Fathers was built on coal,
It's rivers of mingled blood and sweat
Have forever darkened it,
Relieved only by death.

We are a sad people,
Our sadness being wrapped in harps and music
And praise to God
For the lovely, yearning light
That feeds the Spirit as well as the eyes.

..................

In grandmother's house
The shiny kettle hissed on the hob,
Ready and warm,
A Welsh welcome.
A fire that never goes out.

Grandmother, family-proud and so of house,
With hob black-leaded,
Glistening like a raven's wings
And brass like gold
Untarnished.

Her kitchen smelling of oilcloth
And beeswax and Brasso
The Welsh-dresser and chemille-plush
And white china dogs, like sentinels
Guarding the mantlepiece.

A Bible used so much it never needed dusting,
A rocking chair that moves
In silent motion, beholding
The Dad no longer there.

But there was always love
To wash around you like a healing tide
To cleanse the sore places,
Childish sorrows and tremulous tears.

To her the Welsh are bound,
A matriarchal Nation,
The umbilical cord that's ne'er severed
As we span our Earthly lives.

......................

There are preachers, aged men
With salvation in their souls
And Hell-fire damnation
In their breath.

The Welsh are a nation of preachers,
Of minstrels and bards,
Of night-shirted Druids
With mistletoe in their hair.

Reverent of learning and education
As an escape from the darkness
Of the mind and of the Pits
That collier's compass.

.......................

To be a child in Wales
Is to be a child in Paradise.
The mountains worn smooth by timeless backsides
Covered in serge-suiting that shines like polished glass.

With lairs where foxes live.
Streams so clear and cold
They freeze your blood as if to ice
And glow your cheeks.

Her rivers rusted with slime and bedsprings
And with tins that caught minnows,
Ferns that crackel underfoot
Where Adders live.

There are Welsh babies snug in flannel.
Chapels with encrusted tombstones
With leaves and moss.
Shiny black Bibles bound in Brass.

THE EDGE

I was looking at the clouds on a Winter's day
I was thinking how the world has lost its way
How we play an empty game and how we think we're free
How we lie about the truth and the Misery

I was standing in the middle of a pouring rain
I was seeing how there's nothing in this life but pain
How we spend our days within an empty shell
How we dream of Heaven, how we're born in Hell

I can see into the city, I can see the mud
I can see the dirty faces, they are covered in blood
I can see the devil's hunger in the business man
I can feel the thirsty hunger all through this Land

I was blinded by a vision of the world-to-be
I was thinking of a Life that can never be
I was hoping for a place of security
I was sinking in the sand of Reality

But I know there must be some escape, a tunnel through the slime
I'm tired of watching all the rape, I'm sick of seeing all the crime
I've gazed along the open shore, I've looked within my darkest dreams
I've searched my soul to find a door, I must get out by any means

And I'm going over...I'm going over...yes I'm going over

The Edge

I was swirling in the center of a raging flood
I was coughing up the mucus and the slimy blood
I could feel the awful hatred in the angry sky
I could see the naked truth behind the endless Lie

How we spit upon the weak and how we praise the strong
How we trample on the right and how we bless the wrong
How we gave our souls to Satan, how we laughed with glee
When we finally saw the Lord hanging on that Tree

I am sick of living in a world filled with spite
I am sick of utter darkness, this eternal Night
I am fed up with the Dream and the Fantasy
I am fed up with the whole damn thing, you see

A Storm is coming and its gonna be an evil day
The water's rising, gonna wash your hopes away
The wind is blowing, gonna rip right through your head
The devil's smirking 'cause he knows you're already Dead

But I know there must be some escape, a tunnel to the Light
I think I've found a better way, I'm giving up this worthless fight
I've gazed along the open shore, I've looked into the land of Love
I've searched my soul to find a door, I've gazed into the stars above

And I'm going over...I'm going over...yes I'm going over

The morning sun rising majestically in the East
It's splendid rays kissing the horizon with such gentle caress
the warmth of it's light washing over me like a warm shower on a cool winter's day
Still it did nothing to quell the emptiness inside

Alone with this magnificant beast along the cool expanse of sand
I watched as a wind arose and then yet died,overwhelmed by the power of Ra
Or so it seemed
That great eye in the sky
how it watched me,mocked me,yet marvelled at me
For I was alone on this desert
Alone
yet unafraid

Steadfastly I trudged onward
The Beast- my nemesis,my enemy,my only companion
never leaving my side
growing ever stronger,ever more vigilant
ever more
evermore

Then,I feel it
it is weakening
it's hold on me releasing
it needs it's rest,it seems
even such magnificant Beasts need rejuvenation
I have prevailed , this battle is mine,yet again
I will survive,ready to face another round
And begin the day anew

Life Lessons Learned

As I was driving in the car this morning I thought of all the things that had occurred in my short 31 yrs on this earth.

I pondered each and every aspect of my days on this earth..

I needed meaning and understanding for all that had occurred..

Parents divorced when I was a child...I always wanted more...everlasting love and peace that comes from finding that special one..

At age 16 I married my high school sweetheart.....14 yrs into it we fell apart..wished I had known it would be like that from the start....He promised we would never part..

Then low and behold I met a man, who gave me the love that only he can...

I realized today that everything that has occurred in my life has made me who and what I am..Prepared me for his greater plans..

Who am I to question him? The one who gave me life again? I realize now that the greatest gift he gave me was the unanswered prayers...To lead me on this path of crooked stairs...

And if I die today, I will know that I was all a part of his master plan!! And that I truly love this man!

I went to bed thinking of Current River and Jacks Fork!!!!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Rivers!
As I am remembering days of the past.
I thank goodness for being this lass!
She ran to the place where the river crest,
over the waterfall she did gasp!
She was in awe of what she saw
a rush a mighty power out of the wall.
Now as she thinks of the fall
she remembers the last fall...She
then remembers to run run and
leap from the rope that came from the
bluff....
As we felt the breeze upon our face,
we felt the water take our breath.
Then the pumping of the waters deep
felt so exciting to our unbelief. In this
wall of magnificent beauty was the
time of great memory!
Now as we play to hearts content
remembering the days of wading and
floating..
This is precious our River
Current.....Current as it flows
never-ending with its GREAT BEAUTY!
Emne: Feather of Love
Our love is like a feather.
So light and fragile, but yet strong and enduring
Each strand is an occurrence
All held together by the quill
Our love begins small and delicate and grows
To be strong, beautiful and proud
Our love protects us from the rain
Our love keeps us warm when it’s cold
When our feather has grown big and strong
It lifts us on the wind
To soar above it all
Lifting us higher and higher
Until nothing else matters
But the love and togetherness that we share
When there are times that pull us apart
We smooth them together with the memories
From all the other strands
And once again our ‘feather’ is whole
Ready to stand the test again
The bird that the feather is on may die
But like our love
The feather goes on
For eternity
So here is the to the feather of our life
Our love
May it grow
May it lift us up higher and higher
Standing the test of time
Weathering the storms
Only to grow stronger and stronger
And to remain the beautiful love that it is.
Emne: Steps to becoming a Poetry Challenge! club member
1. You must submit an original poem of at least one line or one word (your choice or whichever comes first). For example: "Here"
2. This poem must have a title. For example: "HERE"
3. It must have an author (i.e., it must have been written). For example: "me"
4. The author must not be me but you, i.e., "you"
5. It must have a date. For example: "her" (or "him" if it is a female poem)
6. It must be posted (with the right zip code preferably)
7. Not only posted but posted here. For example, post "HERE" here
8. Of course you must also be a BK paying member, but that is inconsequential. The price is not prohibitive and well worth discovering such jewels as "HERE" and others.
9. Lastly you must grovel.
10. If we are then suitably distracted you might slip in the back door.
How incredible that we have a place here…truly a home…where we can rest and join together in a secret poetry society. I am very delighted. And it seems like a success. :o)
Are there others here who speak Spanish? I’ve seen French and German (I think! lol) and others but…hmmm. My Spanish is so-so but I can read it quite well. Well anyway, Welcome all! Let us enjoy our precious treasure.
