Mr. Shumway: I dont see how to change the number of counted games on the top players list? Are you talking about the list of top rated players by BKR? Or a different list?

Emne: Re:
رضا: lets say for example you come to a game and see a message like "I know what you mean, that's too funny!" But you don't remember what you wrote and what they are referring to, so a quick look at the top message will show you what you said that they are replying to, instead of having to scroll the whole way to the bottom to see what it was you said. But I can see that sometimes you might want it the other way as well!

When I go into a fellowship and look at the tournaments to sign up for, it only gives the name of the fellowship for the tournament name instead of what kind og game the tournament is for.

It would be nice to know what game it is/they are please?

emmett: I agree, it is a pain scrolling through the pages of fellowships to find one you want.

Maybe even something as simple as a key word search feature to help navigate the fellowship list?

I also agree that the fellowships have a huge untapped potential....

Would it be difficult to make our "moves activity" (how many moves we make in a day) correspond to our own time zone instead of the "server time"?

Thats the solution, of course...

Emne: Re: People not online
pauloaguia: That would be my suggstion as well. This would not help though if the online person is playing a game with you with a long time limit. Then they would continue to pop up a the top of your list. But it is not often that people who play long time limit games are the ones making many moves in one sitting.

If I reply to your post it shows you in your time what time it was when I made my post. If am 3 hours ahead of your time it will put a (+3) after your time stamp and you wil know that it was 3 hours later in my time when I posted it than it was for you.

(now thats really confusing)

But I might be talking to someone from Australia who is 18 hours ahead of me and I am having a good time on saturday night and they are getting ready for church on sunday.... not a big deal, but would be nice info to have and it really isnt too much to add the way I suggested.

Where the time stamp is yours and the +8 or -8 or +3 or whatever, is how many hours difference the poster is from your time.

Not really cluttered or confusing.

I cant imagine how difficult it must be as a second language.

pgt: I agree with pedro.... english is a complicated language, especially with context like die and dice, instead of dices. I have travelled a bit and I have found that most people who are trying to learn or improve their english do like to be "corrected". As long as it isnt meant to be critical or cruel.

Jump This: You can try your discussions on general chat as well.... I know one Iranian, Reza, who speaks english very competently, and is always very helpful in giving Americans (and others) a different perspective of the world. But you best bet, like BBW said, is to get a membership and join a fellowship. Although that type of forum doesnt include pawns and therefore does diminish the full scope of opinions. But is the quickest way to become a lying idiot! Sound like fun? *cough* up the cash ;)

Emne: Re: Out of leftfield....
grenv: The point is that stairs were introduced as an alternative to the BKR or tournaments, it should therefore be seprate. If you dont care about ratings, then why do you bother slaming my request? If I were to play all my backgammon games with all lower bkr players where I would only gain a point or maybe none, my bkr would obviously go down. I Know because backgammon has so much of a luck element to it that people dont consider the bkr to mean that much anyway, but there are reasons to want to maintain a higher bkr anyway.

Maybe I will amend my request to only include single match stairs....

11. November 2005, 18:50:53
Czuch
Since the stair system is supposed to be an alternative methode from BKR or tournaments to determine a ranking of players, doesn't it make sense to have all stairs games played unrated? There are some people with low ratings who it is not worth me playing when BKR is involved, since I will gain 1point if I win and lose 12 if I lose, for example. And in a game like backgammon with a lot of luck involved, it just isnt worth the risk to play someone with a low rating in a normal game. But we sometimes have to play these players in a stairs match as we dont have contreoll over who challenges us.

So I would like to have the stairs games unrated!
Thanks.

When you check on your online opponents, it would be nice to be able to send them a PM just like they were part of your fellowship. Something like "hey I am here, if anyone wants to play"

Emne: Re:
rod03801: The part that was the feature request had to do with holidays on this site.

There are many people here who only play on weekdays because that is when they are at work and have access to the web. (brainking contributing to a lack of productivity in the world) Hence normal weekends are saturdays and sundays, because thats when most(many) people are not online. Holidays are another day that we are not online as well. Agreed not every country has all the same holidays (Christmas and new years are a couple I can think of that are) But when one country who makes up over 25% of the Brainking population has a national holiday and therefore 25% of the people here may not be online (in theory) then I see no reason not to use that day as a holiday. Who would argue that if you can help 25% of a population without hurting the other 75% then why wouldnt you do it? If it works in evryday real life, then why not here?

Emne: Re: Majority
AbigailII: OKAY..... We (the US) has more people on this site than from any other country! When you have more than someone else you have a type of majority. (not sure which type, I think a simple majority) Thats all I am saying. The percentage of players on this site from the US is higher (more) than from any other country!

The originol point was that since the US has the most players then it should not be uncommon for us to have a holiday, for example, that another country which has only one member, for example, does not have. It should be expected that the site owner would show more concern for a country with 25% of the population over a country who have only .001% of the population. IMO. But there are some who feel that it is more important to treat everyone equally no matter.

AbigailII: Excuse me? 3 to 1 by who???? If you add up all the other countrys represented on this site together maybe... but thats not what we are counting. We are counting the percentage of each individual country, and we outnumber the second highest country by a 2 to 1 margin, thjat is a majority in any book!

rod03801: Thanks, thats a cool one I hadnt seen yet. I guess my estimate of 15 countrys was safe all right.... Andre Faria: New picture?

With at least 15 different countrys represented on this site, having over 25% of users from just one country is a huge majority. What country has the second highest percentage of users?
