You have to take off your shoes at pagodas in Myan
You have to take off your shoes when you go into sites of pagodas in Myanmar. Though sites of pagodas in Yangon(*) are surrounded by walls, as for Kyaiktiyo there is only one notice-board on the boundary. So you need to pay attention not to step in there with your shoes on.
And I think bare feet are better because your socks get soiled if being worn.

*) Yangon ( called Rangoon before ) is the biggest city in Myanmar.
