Subject: Re: Is it just me? or is this site slower than a cheapskate at the checkout counter
MadMonkey: My continuous and thorough tests say the average page generation time is about 0.1 - 0.3 seconds, and this is the result based on measurements from the last 6 months. Whatever happens OUTSIDE BrainKing, i.e. on the way to the user's web browser, is not (and cannot be) our problem. Our power ends at the outgoing port of our firewall.

Jim Dandy: I don't see any problems and I prepare an article which should be the ultimate answer to everyone, once and forever.

Bernice: It's a silly thing for those who still use slow payment methods. The majority of orders is paid by online services (PayPal, MoneyBookers) which, of course, work continuously and instantly, no matter whether there is a holiday or not.

coan.net: Taxes, man, taxes! The European Union is uncompromising about that. Starting 1st February, I will have to add a VAT to all membership fees and for everyone. It won't be too much (15 or 19%) but since some people are very sensitive to any kind of a raise, they had a good chance to overcome it with a help of the bonus codes.

Dolittle: The rules are very specific about that and say that it's the date of receiving the money which counts, not the date of sending. A month is a very long period for everyone to make it before the deadline and if someone makes a bank transfer on 21st December, it is not a wise decision because banks are usually slow by the end of the year.
I have decided to make an exception and give crosseyed the bonus but I would like to point out that nothing like that will be done again in the future. The rules should be the same to everyone.

1) Vikings interview has been released a while ago. You can find it at the Interviews page.
2) A new system of interviews has been implemented at the same time, so it's no longer necessary to send the questions to pauloaguia. Simply go to the Interviews page, click the interview which is marked "open" and post your question(s).

More information will be posted soon (most likely at the blog site).

coan.net: Well, it's set to restart timeouts after 48 hours now, but if you think it's necessary, I can change it to, uh, 200 hours? The only problem is that ponds are stopped too, so people might object that they cannot play next rounds until next week.

Subject: Re:
gogul: Thanks. For those, who want to discuss normal things without negative emotions, there was a hardware failure on one of the hard disks and since the replacement and data restoration is not an easy process (especially on weekends), BrainKing has been temporarily moved to the backup server which is, of course, much slower and more overloaded. But everything is switched back to the former configuration now.

coan.net: That's, of course, a good idea, and it is definitely planned to be added. However, it's not a change which could be implemented in 5 minutes while doing important system changes, so it could be done later. But it won't be forgotten.

Andersp: No, I did not, my friend. I was only discussing with MadMonkey and only people who feel guilty in any way would take that unobtrusive remark as a personal attack. Anyway, it's very interesting and amusing to observe a mentality of certain people, especially their reactions to certain words. Good thing is that normal users can easily recognize who is trying to make problems just for a sake of making problems. It saves a lot of explanations.
