Subject: Timing
When will the suspension of game times be removed? Some unscrupulous players have taken advantage of this situation by NOT moving by the time they should have, and they still have the game listed in progress on their game page, but with '0 mins' in red.

Subject: Re: Taskbar vs tabs
@alesh
After looking at the browser (slimbrowser) i'd have to say the grouping of pages in tabs is a good feature, this is not reproducable using IE. I'll have to try it for a while.
What I had missed, or what wasn't made clear, is that the group of pages can be saved as a single group enabling the user to come back to the same group later.
Does anybody know if the browser has any known bugs or problems?

@whisperz

You're correct, one click (Groups) opens whatever you want...
I've got a big resolution on my portable (1400x1050) and the taskbar is already set into 2 lines...having way too many windows in the taskbar is harder to work... solving this with tabs is fun.

If anyone is interested I can post a picture or two of how this looks like?

relax? what is that suppose to mean? you mentioned the taskbar, not me, i saw that... if you got the idea I got upset or something... *ups* missed again :-)
Using tabs, atleast for me is much easier and since SlimBrowser supports Groups (imagine putting in your favourite games) you can open N games with one click.

Generally I find tabs are esasier to negotiate than the taskbar as I already have a lot of other things in my taskbar and even with a big screen they can take a while to find.

Also, I think another advantage with alesh's suggestion is that opening the one page would automatically open all the individual files which had be preset ... something similar to some text editors which have "projects" of related files ... open the project and it opens all the individual files.

relax, i mentioned the taskbar, not you. I would like to know the difference between one window with 10 tabs, and 10 windows, which are navigable on the taskbar. I guess it is a little neater but the functionality is no different. Perhaps the memory footprint is less?

I didn't mention taskbar anywhere!
You did miss it.
Mozilla & Slimbrowser (and others) support that you open pages in tabs, so that you have 10 web pages opened inside one window, but arranged in tabs.

Subject: Re:
alesh, that is effectively the same as opening 10 windows. The taskbar behaves the same as if there were tabs. Or did i miss something?

Why not use a web browser which supports tabs?
1. Mozilla, which has native support
2. and for example SlimBrowser which I use, which uses original Internet Explorer to display pages but supports tabs.
That way I simply have one window and 10 tabs in it, to display my favourite games and you can set stay here as default move.

It would be very easy to create a webpage and just put links on there. there are many sites such as freewebs.com etc that you can create a site for free.

I have tried it, yes and it works okay,if you only are observing two or three games.
But if more it will be confusing.
At the moment I bookmark these games with the Internetexplorer in a special folder. It`s better because I can name the links.

But if you internally mail it to yourself within BrainKing it's not outside, it takes an extra click, copying, etc but it's okay.

Yes, bookmarking is possible too, but there are so many things possible outside of Brainking :).

Oh, I see what you mean. Yes, that would be handy for chess players.
I know what you mean about searching through a player's profile to look for games! It takes ages.

I asked one time about bookmarking games and it was suggested that I mail the address to myself, this works quite well.

It can be,that you have some games of your partner or your opponent, which you want to observe constantly.
At the moment you first have to search these games. You have to click on the player`s profile, then on the tournement and then on the the special game, which you want to observe.
If you have a watchlist, you can put this (these) observed game(s)in the list und can see the games at once if you open the list.(Wow,complicated to declare for me:))

29. December 2003, 15:39:31

What exactly do you mean by a 'watchlist', Caissus?

my point is that a number (my case anyhow) isnt easy to remember a name is . yes i was refering to iyt way of things . you can change your name there anytime ... but in theory you can here if people know your id number

28. December 2003, 17:25:05
Jason
when a user creates an account you should pick a permanant id (eg for me it could be jason091068) then you always have that on your profile , so if there was 10 jasons i could look on the profile and see jason091068 and know who i was playing with ;)

Subject: Re: Past Nick List
I think its a very good idea. Maybe being able to have more than one Username per i.d. that way, like you changed yours BBW, it lets you have a bit of fun at certain times.
I changed mine earlier in the year and someone took MadMonkey straight away to teach me a lesson. Luckily they let me have it back though :o)

Subject: Past Nick List
That would be a good idea. And if it was something that could not be done, a good suggestion to users if you are going to change your name is to put in your profile something like "Once known as XXXX"

BBW 2004 aka BIG BAD SANTA aka BIG BAD WOLF

Subject: Past Nick List
There seems to be a lot of people changing their nicks ... some, like BIG BAD ?, are easy to follow but others are not and I am easily confused. Would it be possible to have in each person's profile a list of the names that they have used in previous lifetimes (not talking about multiIDs here).

I have a tourny that I am in, and playing, that the fellowship has been deleted by the boss, when I go to the tourny page it says null, but still running ...mmmmmm... I thought the tournies disappeared normally

28. December 2003, 04:02:14
rod03801
Wait, I'm probably wrong, that fellowship I'm thinking of, only changed names.

28. December 2003, 03:59:08
rod03801
No, I still have games going from tournaments in fellowships that have recently been deleted.

28. December 2003, 03:53:42
coan.net
Question: If someone deletes a fellowship, do the current running tournaments & games also get deleted?

Also do the tournament & game results also get deleted?

Subject: Screen Chess
I suggest to allow en-passant rule in screen chess and crazy screen chess. I used to this rule in chess and was very amazed that this is not allowed when playing one screen chess game.

Uh-oh! You won't believe it ... but it is caused by a typo in a source code responsible for the "tournament winners" page :-D

They look tournaments or winners I think.

What are they actually doing when it shows them "registering new account"? Are they editing their profile like Steve said?

27. December 2003, 23:11:49
Fencer
That's right. When you are logged in, you cannot create a new account.

27. December 2003, 23:04:26
harley
I was just clearing up that people showing this action weren't actually creating a new nic!

27. December 2003, 23:01:15

I thought that was when someone was editing their profile?

27. December 2003, 22:57:16

Yes, I too have wondered what "registering new account" meant..

27. December 2003, 22:52:47
harley
Fencer, is there still that glitch that shows some people logging in as 'registering a new account'? Just wondering! LOL, I've seen a few people listed as doing that and wondered...!

27. December 2003, 22:51:32
Linda J
Got to catch them 1st and that in itself would be a job I would think

27. December 2003, 22:33:41
ughaibu
Or list all accounts on one page.

27. December 2003, 22:25:31
Linda J
I think a nice feature here would be,when someone was registering a new account, the name of that account be shown too.For example: Linda J registering new account Bozo.
Seems it would deter some mutiple Id's

26. December 2003, 18:08:01
Fencer
ughaibu: That's a good idea.

26. December 2003, 18:02:43

ummmmmm yes LOL

26. December 2003, 17:11:35

Thanks :o) I probably got too much alcohol in blood to grasp that page at the moment LOL
So from what you worked out Grenv, if you win but would go down because of it, it says bkr wont change because a drop for a win is wrong :o)
Thanks :o)
