Subject: Re: re: BKR changes before tournament begins
Removing players that have dropped below 2000 BRK in my Elite tourney is prob not a bad idea. I know that the players at the top of each game don't like to play tourneys because they gain hardly anything for winning, but lose lots of points if they lose. The unrated tourneys are a good idea to encourage competition, but wouldn't it also be a good idea to involve the top players in a compulsory tourney, to stop them being too selective about who they play?

Subject: re: BKR changes before tournament begins
As a side note to my 1500BKR and under tournament - I also let unrated players join as long as they are not that good - so the last time I had a 1500 BKR and under tournament - I ended up having to remove 2 players that were already in the 1800 BKR by the time the tournament starts. (If someone has a 1510 rating, I probable would ignore that) :-)

Subject: re: Editing tourneys
As a side note about players rating changing to OUTSIDE the set range. In my 1500 BKR and under tournament - once it gets ready to start, I'll actually go through and remove any player who's rating is now over that (just to keep it fair to everyone else who has joined so they don't play anyone that is too good)

Even though I don't think it would matter as much for your tournament (since most "good" players won't mind playing a now lower rated player), it is a some-what new option to be able to remove players from your tournament.

rahvin666, you are correct on what you say, you can not add games or change BKR once the tournament has been set. If a player drop under your set BKR they will not be eliminated & will still get to play in the tournament.

Subject: Editing tourneys
Hi all. I've set up a couple of tourneys, but i needed to edit one. I wanted to add another game to my Elite games, but i couldn't find the option, so i set up a new tourney just for that game. I also noticed that i could not edit BKR ratings once the tourney was set up. Is this right or have i missed something? Also, what happens if someone BKR rating drops below the required level before the start of the tourney. Do they still get to play or are they eliminated?
Thanks in advance for answering these questions.

All aboard for this blockbuster Backgammon tournament which begins August 27. All are welcome and Seats are unlimited so come one come all and it would be nice for the Backgammon-lovers among us to come out of the woodwork and make this a tournament to remember. Just who IS the best Backgammon expert out there when the pressure is on? Perhaps he/she has never played and is just waiting to discover the game!!! No prisoners will be taken. TNP

This is a reminder for everyone that in about 4 days, the ALL games for dummies (under 1500 & unrated) will be starting.

Details:

This tournament includes ALL games - for players rated below 1500 OR unrated (as long as you are not too good) With the sections limited to only 5 per section, it will only start at the most 4 new games.

So if there are any games you would like to try (but too afraid of losing after 2 moves), or if you would like to play without playing an "expert" that will beat you in 2 moves - here is a perfect chance!

A great way to play & learn & have fun all at the same time!

ALL games for dummies (under 1500 & unrated) - Sign Up Now!

You can remove yourself from a tournament before it is started. After that it is not possible, of course, because the sections would have to be recreated again and it would be too complicated.

Yes, you have to wait. But there are two other possiblities:
1) Let me know that you've finished all your games. Then I will mark you as "eliminated" and you'll be able to sign up for another tournament.
2) Upgrade your membership. Then you'll be able to play more tournaments at once.

I joined "Crowded in California" in hopes of finding fast games with people in the same time zone. I was wrong. One player make ONE move per WEEK.
I suggest you make it possible for players (eager to play) to remove themselves from tournaments (burdened with players like this one). Thanks for your consideration!

Hey, can someone tell me how to get of a tourney where I finished all my games, yet I am unable to join a new one. Do I really have to wait till everyone's done?? (i.e. close to forever) ?! I resigned 3 games just to be able to join another tourney, yet I'm stuck here it seems. Thanks!!

Subject: Re: System
I think if you look at the way the sections in tournament are sorted there is some sort of ranking based on BKR.
For example if there are 24 people in a tournament and there are 3 sections. If 3 of those entrants have 2000+ ratings you will find one is put in each section along with if you had 3 under 1000.

Subject: tournament section setup
I would like to suggest an advancement.

The highest rated player is set to group 1
- the next-highest to group 2 and so roundrobin on.

Such a system would come close to the World Tennis Tour setup
and avoid annoying asymmetries in the first rounds imho ...

Perhaps implementable as option for the tournament creator ... ~*~

Actually I know that Fencer had at least for 1 tournament (the $250 Gothic Chess tournament) made it so the person ranked #1 was in section #1, rank #2 was in section #2, etc...

BUT I don't know if this was just a 1 time thing, if it is random, or some sort of pattern.

Thats right, Watson, if you have 2 or more sections you will have at least one more round after the first games are complete. You will get a note in your mailbox saying 'All Sections Completed', you then visit that tournament page and start the next round. Good luck :o)

what i think happens .. and someone correct me if i am wrong.. is that the next round will be created automatically.... but before the round begins the tournament creater gets a message to start the next round.. and there must be a button somewhere for you to push...

If I start a tournament that has more than 1 section of players, will it automatically make a another game for the winners of each of those sections so they can play against each other??

19. July 2003, 04:37:41

There are still games remaining in your section - you have to wait for your section to finish before you can join another.

Or, you can message Fencer and he will mark you as eliminated from the tournament so you can join another.

In order for Fencer to get a new server which will enable us to play uninterrupted we are holding a money drive.

We arent asking for alot but if everyone on this site donated just one dollar we could help Fencer get the new server which is needed.

Read more about it on the Brainking board.

Thanks

Kevin,

Perhaps I should have been more explicit in my quetioning. There are two tournaments (one in keryo19, and one in restricted keryo13) that I have already won and finished all my games. Therefore, I certainly don't want to be eliminated from them! The bad news (for me, at least) is that two other players are still playing their what now amount to irrelevant games. As rules stand now, if I try to enter another tournament of either of these types, I get some message to the effect that I cannot enter because I'm already playing in a tournament (which I have already completed and won)!!?

16. July 2003, 02:47:32
Kevin
Yes - until your section finishes, and you do not advance. However, as Fencer said with pawns, if you have no mathematical chance to win the section, you can let him know and he will mark you as eliminated so you can join another tournament of the same type.

Subject: Re: ... last post cont.
It must be a bug, one of the players can not have had a 1800+ rating lately, he won much more games then he lost. I don't think i have to ASK the tournament creator to remove such a player. When creating a 1800+ tourney the creator has to do that automaticly or announce it as a open tournament. I also think that unrated players never can join a 1800+ tournament because they don't have a 1800+ BKR!

NEW TOURNAMENT: ALL games for dummies (under 1500 & unrated)

OK, the new tournament is not actually for dummies - just people who may not be good at certain games.

ALSO are there games on this site you have never tried? Like Tablut or Tank Battle? Well here is a perfect chance to try them because I allow unrated players to join also! (and long as the unrated player is not too good).

Pawns & Knights only need 4 free spaces for each tournament. Tournament to start at the end of July.

Better system will be implemented in the future.
Meanwhile, if it is absolutely clear that the pawn won't advance to the second round and his section is not finished yet, he can contact me and I will mark him as "eliminated" of the tournament, so he'll be able so sign up for another one.

14. July 2003, 17:32:55

Subject: re: Clarification Please
As it is currently set up, the pawn can NOT join a new tournament until the SECTION they are in is complete. (So if there are many sections, you just have to wait until the one you are in is complete - and you are not the winner)

And in case you are the winner, you will have to wait until the next rounds starts and then completes before you can join a new tournament.

hope this helps!
