furbster: i thought tournaments already kicked players out who are too high ?

i couldnt join some tournaments because my bkr was either too high or too low

i am not sure though if thats just at the moment when i sign up .. or also when the tournament actually starts

what happens if a players raises above (or drops below) the set bkr limits during the tournament ? should the player be removed as well ? ;)

THE HIT MAN: the tournaments starting time arent checcked every minute, so it can show minus a couple of minutes before it starts .. i think this wont be longer than 10 minutes though (i think the starting times are checked every 10 minutes)

Sorry. But in my Tournaments if you don;t enter in 10 games or more you are going to be removed.Because they are most games WON TOURNAMENTS with prizes.Hopefully this is going to resolve the problems.Due to all BKR ratings

yeh but that would take him ages, especially if he has all games, + players could still go above the suggested rating

furbster: I agree, the system should not let you sign up if you are over 1500 (or whatever the limit is) and it should check again when it starts. This should be done automatically.

BIG BAD WOLF: I like that way of handling it. If a player is normally just under 1500 and happens to win three games in a row right before the tournament, an automatic system would knock him out even though he may be back under 1500 after three more games.

I know for any of my "tournament for dummies" for players rated 1500 or below, about a day or so before the tournament starts, I actually go through manually and kick out anyone who is way above 1500. (If someone now has 1525 or something close I usually let them stay - but if it's like 1700, then they are gone.)

But even then, some are unrated and even within hours of it starting they can shot from unrated to 2100.

Subject: Re: 1
THE HIT MAN: If a tournament is set at say 1500BKR and below to sign up, a player can only sign up who is 1500 and below. However if that tournament starts weeks later, and that player has moved to 2000, they will still be included. It's up to the creator of the tournament to remove anyone from the tournament before it starts if they are over 1500.

In addition, if you let unrated players sign up, after 4 completed games they may also be over 1500 BKR.

I think that explains it.

I just gave you the answer below about IYT:

If the rounds at IYT go for a bit, and someone asks the owner there to end the tournament instead of starting new rounds, it is done. Otherwise, the computer there will continue to make new rounds forever.

SunFire: BeaverBoy brought it up, then he and shagglbrox accused me of being wrong. Obviously my last post proved that I was right. But perhaps we can close the book on IYT now.

The bottom line is that ties are ok, if a game, match, or tournament is played to a tie, but not when the tying players never face each other. Also, if a tournament is co-won, there should be something indicating so.

You are all wrong. There have been ties there in the past as I have said. Look at Ilurath's profile:

He "won" the August 2002 Main #1 Tournament in pente. Now look at Dmitri King's profile:

He also "won" the same tournament! The standings at the end of the 'final' round are here:

I don't care what the rules at IYT say, they are obviously not correct.

Thad: No offense Thad, but the rules at IYT state there can be ties for sections, but:
"When all games in all sections are completed, the players who scored highest in their sections advance to the next round, where they are placed in new sections. The process repeats until there is a single champion for each game type within a tournament."

There was a Keryo tourney I saw there went 10 rounds, the last 6 or 7 or which were between just 3 guys, but a winner finally emerged. Ask "Steve (who sometimes waits until round 10 to lose)"

Anyway, who cares, that's IYT - I agree with your point though, ties suck - maybe Fencer could allow an option (like time limit options) to set whether a tourney can end in a tie or not?

Some tournaments end in a tie but I think there is always a winner.
I was in one that just ended and it was a three way tie but because I had the lowest BKR of all of us it gave me the win of the tournament :o)
