anastasia: What type of file is it? Its always hard to figure these things out the first time but once you've done it once you're away! Don't give up, it will be something simple.

anastasia: What options are you choosing in nero? You need to choose nero start smart... photo and video... make your own DVD video. It sounds like you're choosing a different option, I've made that mistake before and had a film I could only watch on my PC.

OK how about this one... I've also got some cartridges for Epson C42/C44/C46. Anyone have one of those printers?

Does anyone here have a brother MFC-580, MFC-590, MFC 890, MFC-5100J or MFC5200J?

I'v got about 7 compatable ink cartridges that I can't use any more because my machine got a fatal fault

**edited to add: these are freebies, I'm not selling them. They're in my way and I'd sooner send them to someone who can use them.

I use easy video splitter to trim films if I need to;

Bu I don't understand about .avi? I find it great quality and I usually work with that format.

Is it just your internet connectin that freezes, or does it also do it if you're just on (eg) microsoft word without being on the net?
If its your internet check your connections, I recently moved my PC so I was plugged directly into the phone socket rather than through an extention cable and its improved my connection no end.

Doris: Too much stuff on your hard drive comes to mind straight away. Delete old files, do a disk clean-up, a scandisk and a defrag. That may help.

Great ideas. Memory stick... hmmm! I like that one. Do CD's really go bad? Not happened to me yet!

Ahh I already have Rar but didn't think it would be much different than Winzip.
Taking the harddisk out, are you kidding?! Seems a bit drastic! I'm not good with the inner workings of these things!
Thanks for all the advice

No they're not, I want to put a game onto my kids PC's upstairs, and a friends who isn't on the net, so it really needs to go on a disc. The disc is 800mb and the programme 1250mb.

Does anyone know anything about zipping files? I thought it made them smaller, but I have a programme I want to put on a disc to transfer to another PC, only its too big for the disc. I zipped it using winzip, and tried to put that on but its showing as the same size?

Otsikko: Re: Printer trouble
Mrs.Reeves: Try this website;

http://www.ssclg.com/epsone.shtml

This programme will let you do a powerful deep clean and you can do other stuff, like freezing the ink counter, so you actually get to use ALL the ink in your cartridge!

Otsikko: Re: Anti Virus
ali: Because most crack sites have loads of viruses. I sometimes have a quick look, but if I don't find anything straight away I leave it. Another option is to download them from a site like mininova where they often come with a crack/keygen, or is the full version anyway.

Does anyone know about MP3 players? My daughters has started saying 'dos error please format' when you turn it on, but going through the menu to format it, everything is 'no file'.

I thought be meant a bus things, it plugs into a USB port and has 4 spaces to plug things into. Like an extension lead. I have one and certain things just don't work on it, my printer doesn't for one.

Otsikko: Re: usb hub (4 ports)
Hrqls: Some items do have problems with hubs, and theres nothing you can do put them straight into a port. Do you have room in your PC to add extra ports?

I have no idea what speed the writer is, but its a new one. 52x I think. Its the discs that are 8x, I get them because they're cheaper. But even with an 8x disc it should go faster shouldn't it?
A music CD takes around 10/20 minutes.

Does anyone know how to speed up burning times? I'm using Nero 6 and for an average 90 minute / 700mb film on an 8x disc it can take 8 - 14 hours to burn.

Can anyone tell me how you measure the size of a monitor? Is it just the screen, side to side - or the screen diagonal, or everything including the casing?

Thats great, thank you, I'll pass those on. She had a keylogger before, and it seemed to go so we're not sure if this is the same one or not. How do they get on the PC in the first place?

6. Kesäkuu 2005, 19:28:10
harley
Every time my mum runs her ad aware programme she gets 'keylogger - threat - severe'.
What is this and how can she get rid of it? The programme isn't doing it.

I bought an external for my old PC, but I have a new one now so I have one internal and one external! They come in handy.

This might sound like a daft question, but you are using a DVD disc and not a CD disc? Thats something I struggled with at first, trying to make VCD's instead of DVD's!
And does it make a difference if you use Nero instead of Premier Pro? Sometimes just using a different programme can help.
Otherwise, you could try splitting the file instead of cutting it, then you won't lose any. I have usea 'Easy Video Splitter' in the past and its great. Very easy to use.

baudrillard: Do you have an option to 'write at once', or something similar? So it doesn't use any space on your hard drive?

Thanks Hrqls, but that doesn't seem to have worked. I installed it, but it keeps asking me for a disk, which I don't have! Thanks for trying though :O)

Otsikko: Re: NERO advice?
AbigailII: Well do I have a red face!! I assumed because it was on Nero, I could do it! I didn't realise you needed a separate writer for DVD discs, I thought a writer would do all discs!! Oh well, thanks for that, I can stop looking now. (And return the DVD discs!)

21. Helmikuu 2005, 18:13:46

Otsikko: NERO advice?
I bought some DVD-R's today and tried to put some vids on one, but its says disc not recognised. I went into the settings and only the boxes for CD-R's and CD-RW's are checked. It won't let me check the box to use a DVD-R.

Question, is this because my PC isn't good enough for the disc (the disc actually has more memory than my hard drive!) or do I need some kind of update?

Otsikko: Re: Video cd
Ferjo: Thats confusing then! I thought they were avi files. When I save them, they save as filename.avi

Otsikko: Re: Video cd
Ferjo: I don't need to change my avi files to mpeg first. My camcorder records in avi, and I put them straight from there onto disc as either VCD or SVCD and my DVD player plays them ok.

16. Helmikuu 2005, 10:26:56
harley
800 x 600, but I have a PC upstairs where its impossible to change it to more than 640 x 480. I've been told its something to do with the graphics card. I used it for the net for about 6 months.

13. Helmikuu 2005, 20:06:50
harley
Mine too, BBW. I got a writer for my home vids, so I could put them on DVD. All I knew was that they saved on the PC in AVI format. I looked at DVD players in the shop and the cheapest there (about £45 I think) had AVI on the box so I bought it, and it does loads more than I'd hoped!

13. Helmikuu 2005, 19:50:07

Andersp, have you checked your DVD player will accept the format you're using?

I just cleaned it and it worked fine reading the cleaning disc. You learn something new every day! I'll also change the write speed, its set on x24 as standard, I usually leave it at that.
Whats XP?

Cheers Aragon, I've been using Mr Data disks. £10 for 50 in Tesco!
This is going to sound really dumb, but if you put a lens cleaner in, how do you get it going round to clean it? Its not like a D drive is it, where you just 'play' the disk.

It has an external power cord and a USB lead to the PC.
