SafariGal: But what if no one ranked #1 in one game has sufficiently strong credentials in the others to be considered the best overall player? As it turns out, of the five top-ranked players, only arpa has established BKRs in all five games. Do you really consider 54th, 4th, 10th, 1st, and 24th better than 5th, 3rd, 2nd, 5th, and 4th?

One reasonable measure of overall strength might be average BKR across the five games. I doubt you'll find anyone who can top alanback's 2160.

SafariGal: Well, I asked for your opinion and you gave it. Thanks for your view. One reason for my posting was that I did feel somewhat deficient in not being #1 in any variant.

However, as has been pointed out, I have been in the #1 spot in most of them at one time or another in the past. Most recently I was #1 in Backgammon Race about a month ago.

alanback: it would seem fair to me that someone claiming the "top" would at least be #1 ranked in 1 of the variants. It appears to me you are not!! So I refute your claim. Your claim is a personal assessment of yourself and others and it not the perception of others. I would consider you "very very good" at best. Far far better than I

alanback: leaving on top is a good thing, but given a little bit of time(because I haven't completed as many games as yourself) I think I can make it into the top 5-10 players in 6 of 6 of the gammon variants(including anti-)
...and if not, the level you raised the bar to will be fun trying to accomplish...

While many can question your claim nobody can do the same with mine....

I've decided to quit playing here and on Dailygammon to save time for other interests. Since I'm finishing my games and tournaments, I'll still be around for quite a while; but as I survey my standings here, it seems to me I have a pretty good claim to be the top player of gammon games (excluding antibackgammon) on the site. I'm presently in the top 5 in all 5 positive gammon games, and there is nobody who is ahead of me in two of them. Anyone else have a better claim?

he will fix this so that the tournaments will be removed after time and when that happens then the players will get their entry fees returned to them

If you sign up to a game where brains are required for the entry fee, and the game doesnt go ahead, do you get your brains refunded?

Asunto: illegal move?
I don't think I should have been allowed to move 6-4 4-off in this game since I could have moved 6-1 3-1 and used all seven points on the dice. However, the system did let me swap the dice and do 6-4, 4-off. Is this an error?

Pbarb2: I just looked at your "Last 10 completed games" list, and I don't see any hyper games since the 12th. Are you sure they weren't part of multi-game matches???? BKR isn't affected until the end of the match. Look at the PM's you received at the end of the games.

How often are the ratings posted? I just noticed I won 2 hyper games and nothing changed. Then I lost a game still nothing. It has been a few hours now .. I don't know much about the ratings..Just thought it unusual. Thanks

the good thing of this site though is that there are a lot of different games to play .. this is an allround game site while other sites concentrate on mainly 1 game type

Asunto: Re: How strong?
Pason69: You´ll find more familiary games to play here (which does not mean you´ll find weak players), since it´s difficult as a rook to choose your opponents upon their rating if you play a lot of tournaments like you and most do. Allmost 1000 players is not a enourmous community, so you´ll find less top-players. But compaired to life you´ll find more players at your level on net and here also. It´s difficult to compare the sites, the rating system are different. If you surch to play against experienced players probably FIBS is a good adress.
I like the Galore sites for further questions about the game, it would not make sence to reinvent the wheel on every backgammon-site :)

Asunto: Re: How strong?
Pason69: it is far weaker here than some sites such as http://www.dailygammon.com. at DG they talk A LOT about tactics and really analyse a lot of games as the site is totally dedicated to backgammon.. Brainking is more of a chat site and if you are after serious backgammon, this is not a good place. The boards here have basically no analytical information whatsoever

Asunto: How strong?
Hi everybody!

My guess is there is an answer ofr this somewhere, but I can't find it... How strong is the BG-community here compared to other sites? Compared to live? Since I only played it on the net, I have no idea. In eg chess, it's easy to compare the rating of a few known players net & live rating and get an idea of the level of play and how strong the site is. Are there anything like that in BG as well?!

Thanks in advance!
