I have just finished relocating my home office into a new room that I have had built onto my house. I found the cutting from a newspaper of 2001.

America's Ugly Side</b>

The SBS program The Cutting Edge showed a 2001 speech by a British MP: "Since 1945, the Americans have bombed China, Korea, Quatemala, Indonesia,Cuba, The Congo, Peru, Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia, Guatemala, Grenada, Libya, El Salvador, Panama, Iraq, Sudan, Somalia, Afghanistan and Yugoslavia. How humanitarian can you get?" Why, then, do Americans wonder why they are hated?

I think it is probably right.............

***QUOTE OF THE CENTURY,,,,
Some people have the vocabulary to sum up things in a way you can understand them. This quote came from the Czech Republic. Someone over there has it figured out:

"The danger to America is not Barack Obama, but a citizenry capable of entrusting a man like him with the Presidency. It will be far easier to limit and undo the follies of an Obama presidency than to restore the necessary common sense and good judgment to a depraved electorate willing to have such a man for their president. The problem is much deeper and far more serious than Mr. Obama, who is a mere symptom of what ails America. Blaming the prince of the fools should not blind anyone to the vast confederacy of fools that made him their prince. The Republic can survive a Barack Obama, who is, after all, merely a fool. It is less likely to survive a multitude of fools such as those who made him their president."***

Artful Dodger: who said that? "bring our boys etc? war is war. It is expected that some will die. Death is part of military conflict isn't it? (oops you already said that)

We lost another couple the other day in Afghanistan and while it is sad, it is also part and parcel of being in the military. I am just so pleased that they are given Military funerals, and then get another great send off when they are taken back to their home towns....so touching.

Emne: Re:Australian Gun Laws
Artful Dodger: what you dont say is how many have illegal weapons. People who live in the country and need guns to get rid of feral animals and such have unregistered guns. The crime rate hasnt dropped etc as you pointed out, but the trade in illegal weapons has increased. We still dont have drive by's as you do in the USA (thank god) but are starting to get idiots in schools with weapons. typical male testosterone kicking in....these BOYS, and they are only children think they are invincible.
it is so easy to get a license for a gun, but one gun isnt enough for some households, so they revert to illegal purchases.

Emne: and How true is this ROFL
Last month the UN conducted a world-wide survey by phone.

The only question asked was:-

"Would you please give your honest opinion about solutions to the food
shortage in the rest of the world?"

The survey was a huge failure because of the following:

1. In Eastern Europe they didn't know what "honest" meant.
2. In Western Europe they didn't know what "shortage" meant.
3. In Africa they didn't know what "food" meant.
4. In China they didn't know what "opinion" meant.
5. In the Middle East they didn't know what "solution" meant.
6. In South America they didn't know what "please" meant.
7. In the USA they didn't know what "the rest of the world" meant.
8. In Australia they hung up as soon as they heard the Indian accent.

(V): Wikipedia states..."""In the UK voter registration is not compulsory, but registration is actively encouraged by central and local government. Voters must be on the electoral roll in order to vote in national, local or European elections"""

But even so, there should be a "fine" for not voting, even if you are/not registered

Can you please show me where there is a £1000 fine. I can't find anything on that.

Emne: Re:
Artful Dodger: The concept of the suicide bomber dates to the 11th century, when the Assassins adopted it as a strategy to spread Islam through northern Persia. It appeared again among Muslims from India to the Philippines in the 1700's. During World War II, Japanese fighter pilots were recruited for suicide, or kamikaze, missions.
